  • In this study, the Delphi method and AHP (analytic hierarchy process) were used to evaluate tunnel collapse risk from a comprehensive and multifaceted perspective. Influence factors were established through literature reviews, previous studies, and brainstorming sessions with expert groups, resulting in the construction of five main classification systems. A panel of 21 experts was formed, and three rounds of Delphi surveys were conducted to prevent errors and biases in the expert judgment process, thereby enhancing reliability. Ultimately, 14 influence factors were identified through CVR (content validity ratio) and COV (coefficient of variation) analyses of the experts' responses. Subsequently, the AHP method was applied to assess the relative importance of each influence factor and calculate the final composite weights. The timing of support and reinforcement had the highest priority, followed by groundwater inflow, joint conditions, support pattern levels, and auxiliary methods. These findings help identify the key factors affecting tunnel collapse risk and provide a foundation for developing strategies to improve tunnel safety.

  • Industrial accidents differ considerably according to the industry and the scale of these industries. These industrial disasters have been analyzed in various ways. Therefore, a technique was developed to evaluate the disaster level among companies using the ANP method and the data derived from the disaster statistics over the past five years(2013~2017), as well as the safety information characteristics through questionnaires. The objective of the study was to determine the disaster level and safety level of a company. In this paper, six factors that are considered important for assessing the disaster level of the enterprise among the disaster statistics were selected. These factors included the industry type and size, age of employee, duration of treatment, duration of employment, and typical occurrence. Most companies use the accident rate for their disaster level to compare only with other companies. In this study, the weighting factors of the company were derived taking the characteristics of each company into consideration. Therefore, the disaster level of each company can be evaluated using the disaster statistics from each company and the derived weighting factors.

  • For 2007 Korea presidential election, most polls by telephone surveys indicated Lee Myung-Bak led the second runner-up Jung Dong-Young by certain margin. The margin between two candidates can be estimated accurately by averaging individual poll results, provided there exists no systematic bias in telephone surveys. Most Korean telephone surveys via telephone directory are based on quota samples, with the region, the gender and the age-band as quota variables. Thus the surveys may result in certain systematic bias due to unbalanced factors inherent in quota sampling. The aim of this study is to answer the following questions by the analytic methods adopted in Huh et al. (2004): Question 1. Wasn't there systematic bias in estimates of support rates. Question 2. If yes, what was the source of the bias? To answer the questions, we collected eighteen surveys administered during the election campaign period and applied the iterated proportional weighting (the rim weighting) to the last eleven surveys to obtain the balance in five factors - region, gender, age, occupation and education level. We found that the support rate of Lee Myung-Bak was over-estimated consistently by 1.4%P and that of Jung Dong-Young was underestimated by 0.6%P, resulting in the over-estimation of the margin by 2.0%P. By investigating the Lee Myung-Bak bias with logistic regression models, we conclude that it originated from the under-representation of less educated class and/or the over-representation of house wives in telephone samples.

  • Objective: To compare the quality of various polychromatic and monochromatic images with or without using an iterative metal artifact reduction algorithm (iMAR) obtained from a dual-energy computed tomography (CT) to evaluate total knee arthroplasty. Materials and Methods: We included 58 patients (28 male and 30 female; mean age [range], 71.4 [61-83] years) who underwent 74 knee examinations after total knee arthroplasty using dual-energy CT. CT image sets consisted of polychromatic image sets that linearly blended 80 kVp and tin-filtered 140 kVp using weighting factors of 0.4, 0, and -0.3, and monochromatic images at 130, 150, 170, and 190 keV. These image sets were obtained with and without applying iMAR, creating a total of 14 image sets. Two readers qualitatively ranked the image quality (1 [lowest quality] through 14 [highest quality]). Volumes of high- and low-density artifacts and contrast-to-noise ratios (CNRs) between the bone and fat tissue were quantitatively measured in a subset of 25 knees unaffected by metal artifacts. Results: iMAR-applied, polychromatic images using weighting factors of -0.3 and 0.0 (P-0.3i and P0.0i, respectively) showed the highest image-quality rank scores (median of 14 for both by one reader and 13 and 14, respectively, by the other reader; p < 0.001). All iMAR-applied image series showed higher rank scores than the iMAR-unapplied ones. The smallest volumes of low-density artifacts were found in P-0.3i, P0.0i, and iMAR-applied monochromatic images at 130 keV. The smallest volumes of high-density artifacts were noted in P-0.3i. The CNRs were best in polychromatic images using a weighting factor of 0.4 with or without iMAR application, followed by polychromatic images using a weighting factor of 0.0 with or without iMAR application. Conclusion: Polychromatic images combined with iMAR application, P-0.3i and P0.0i, provided better image qualities and substantial metal artifact reduction compared with other image sets.

  • Purpose: Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (FMEA) is a widely utilized technique to measure product reliability by identifying potential failure modes. Even though FMEA techniques have been studied, the form of Risk Priority Number (RPN) used to evaluate risk priority in FMEA is still questionable because of its shortcomings. In this study, we suggest common RPN(cRPN) to resolve shortcomings of the traditional RPN and show the extensibility of cRPN. Methods: We suggest cRPN which is based on Cobb-Douglas production function, and represent the various application on weighting risk factors, weighted RPN in a mathematical way, and show the possibility of statistical approach. We also conduct numerical study to examine the difference of the traditional RPN and cRPN as well as the potential application from the analysis on marginal effects of each risk factor. Results: cRPN successfully integrates previously suggested approaches especially on the relative importance of risk factors and weighting RPN. Moreover, we analyze the effect of corrective actions in terms of econometric analysis using cRPN. Since cRPN is rely on the reliable mathematical model, there would be numerous applications using cRPN such as smart factory based on A.I. techniques. Conclusion: We propose a reliable mathematical model of RPN based on Cobb-Douglas production function. Our suggested model, cRPN, resolves various shortcomings such as consideration of the relative importance, the effect of combinations among risk factors. In addition, by adopting a reliable mathematical model, quantitative approaches are expected to be applied using cRPN. We find that cRPN can be utilized to the field of industry because it is able to be applied without modifying the entire systems or the conventional actions.

  • In context awareness using multiple sensors, when using sensor data detected and sent by each sensor, it is necessary to give different weights for each sensor. Even if the same type of sensor is configured for the same situation, sometimes it is necessary to assign different weights due to other secondary factors. It is inevitable to assign weights to events in the real world, and it can be said that a weighting method that can be used in a context awareness system using multiple sensors is necessary. In this study, we propose a weighting method for each sensor that reports to the host while the sensors continue to detect over time. In most IoT environments, the sensor continues the detection activity, and when the detected value shows a change pattern beyond a predetermined range, it is basically reported to the host. This can be called a kind of data stream environment. A weighting method was proposed for sensing data from multiple sensors in a data stream environment, and the new weighting method was to select and assign weights to data that indicates a context change in the stream.

  • The purpose of the study is to set up factors for evaluating information systems which can meet both users' and developers' needs. These factors can be used as a framework in developing successful information systems. To achieve this purpose factors are selected first from the literature review by the previous studies. Then two different questionnaires based on selected factors were made up and distributed to two separate groups; users and developers. It appeared that there are significant differences on ranking and weighting for evaluation factors of information systems between the user and the developer. 185 factors for evaluating information systems are divided into 9 criteria based on their roles. There are significant differences on ranking under 6 out of 9 evaluation criteria between two groups. These are 'effectiveness', 'usability', 'user friendliness', 'documentation', 'output', 'maintenance'. However, there are no significant differences on factors in 'performance', 'developer', and 'user satisfaction' criteria. As a result of the study 185 factors for evaluating information systems were presented with rank.

  • OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) system is robust to frequency selective fading and narrowband interference in high-speed data communications. However, an OFDM signal consists of a number of independently modulated subcarriers and the superposition of these subcarriers causes a problem that can give a large PAPR(Peak-to-Average Power Ratio). Phase rotation method can reduce the PAPR without nonlinear distortion by multiplying phase weighting factors. But computational complexity of searching phase weighting factors is increased exponentially with the number of subblocks and considered phase factor. Therefore, a new method, which can reduce computational complexity and detect phase weighting factors efficiently, should be developed. In this paper, a modeling process is introduced, which apply metaheuristic algerian in phase rotation method and optimize in PTS (Particle Swarm Optimization) scheme. Proposed algorithm can solve the computational complexity and guarantee to reduce PAPR We analyzed the efficiency of the PAPR reduction through a simulation when we applied the proposed method to telecommunication systems.

  • In the communication channel, the received signal is affected by many factors that can cause errors. These effects mean that received signal strength (RSS) based methods incur more errors in measuring distance and consequently result in low precision in the location detection process. As one of the approaches to overcome these problems, we propose using direction calibration to improve the performance of the RSS-based method for distance measurement, and sequentially a weighted least squares (WLS) method using reliability factors in conjunction with a conventional RSS weighting matrix is proposed to solve an over-determined localization process. The proposed scheme focuses on the features of the RSS method to improve the performance, and these effects are proved by the simulation results.

  • The exchangeability of subassembly has a good relationship with the modularization of product. This relationship can be found by the analysis of the characteristics of a product. The weight for decision factors for the modularization can be determined by the exchangeability of a product or subassembly. The functions, structure, materials of subassembly are used as the decision parameters of exchangeability. Using these selected parameters, the modularization of a product, the characteristics of product structure, and the product function are analyzed. And then, the weighting factors could be calculated quantitatively using this relationship and the parameters of the exchangeability. The calculated weight can contribute to help a designer design for recycling (DFR), design for energy (DFE) and Eco-design.
