  • This paper is concerned with the application of the vision control algorithm with weighting matrix in robot point placement task. The proposed vision control algorithm involves four models, which are the robot kinematic model, vision system model, the parameter estimation scheme and robot joint angle estimation scheme. This proposed algorithm is to make the robot move actively, even if relative position between camera and robot, and camera's focal length are unknown. The parameter estimation scheme and joint angle estimation scheme in this proposed algorithm have form of nonlinear equation. In particular, the joint angle estimation model includes several restrictive conditions. For this study, the weighting matrix which gave various weighting near the target was applied to the parameter estimation scheme. Then, this study is to investigate how this change of the weighting matrix will affect the presented vision control algorithm. Finally, the effect of the weighting matrix of robot vision control algorithm is demonstrated experimentally by performing the robot point placement.

  • In the multi-user multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system, orthogonal random beamforming (ORBF) scheme is proposed to serve multiple users simultaneously in order to achieve the multi-user diversity gain. The opportunistic space-division multiple access system (OSDMA-S) scheme performs multiple weighting matrices during the training phase and chooses the best weighting matrix to be used to broadcast data during the transmitting phase. The OSDMA-S scheme works better than the original ORBF by decreasing the inter-user interference during the transmitting phase. To save more time in the training phase, a partly random multiple weighting matrices selection scheme is proposed in this paper. In our proposed scheme, the Base Station does not need to use several unitary matrices to broadcast pilot symbol. Actually, only one broadcasting operation is needed. Each subscriber generates several virtual equivalent channels with a set of pre-saved unitary matrices and the channel status information gained from the broadcasting operation. The signal-to-interference and noise ratio (SINR) of each beam in each virtual equivalent channel is calculated and fed back to the base station for the weighting matrix selection and multi-user scheduling. According to the theoretical analysis, the proposed scheme relatively expands the transmitting phase and reduces the interactive complexity between the Base Station and subscribers. The asymptotic analysis and the simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the throughput performance of the multi-user MIMO system.

  • This paper proposes a real-time robotic vision control scheme using the weighting matrix to efficiently process the vision data obtained during robotic movement to a target. This scheme is based on the vision system model that can actively control the camera parameter and robotic position change over previous studies. The vision control algorithm involves parameter estimation, joint angle estimation, and weighting matrix models. To demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control scheme, this study is divided into two parts: not applying the weighting matrix and applying the weighting matrix to the vision data obtained while the camera is moving towards the target. Finally, the position accuracy of the two cases is compared by performing the slender bar placement task experimentally.

  • A robust and efficient text extraction is very important for an accuracy of Optical Character Recognition (OCR) systems. Natural scene images with degradations such as uneven illumination, perspective distortion, complex background and multi color text give many challenges to computer vision task, especially in text extraction. In this paper, we propose a method for extraction of the text in signboard images based on a combination of mean shift algorithm and weighting scheme of hue and saturation in HSI color space for clustering algorithm. The number of clusters is determined automatically by mean shift-based density estimation, in which local clusters are estimated by repeatedly searching for higher density points in feature vector space. Weighting scheme of hue and saturation is used for formulation a new distance measure in cylindrical coordinate for text extraction. The obtained experimental results through various natural scene images are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

  • Instance based learning algorithm is the best known lazy learner and has been successfully used in many areas such as pattern analysis, medical analysis, bioinformatics and internet applications. However, its feature weighting scheme is too naive that many other extensions are proposed. Our version of IB3 named as eXtended IBL (XIBL) improves feature weighting scheme by backward stepwise regression and its distance function by VDM family that avoids overestimating discrete valued attributes. Also, XIBL adopts leave-one-out as its noise filtering scheme. Experiments with common artificial domains show that XIBL is better than the original IBL in terms of accuracy and noise tolerance. XIBL is applied to two important applications - intrusion detection and spam mail filtering and the results are promising.

  • Virtual Bass System (VBS) is widely used to extend the lower frequency limit of small loudspeakers, which generates harmonics of a fundamental frequency. The perceptual quality of the VBS is highly dependent on the harmonic weighting strategy. There have been several weighting methods, including exponential attenuation and timbre matching. However, it is essential to match phases between harmonics in the original signal and generate harmonics to precisely convey the weighting strategy. This paper shows the limitations of the previous harmonic weighting schemes and proposes a new harmonic weighting scheme. The proposed weighting scheme proposes phase matching between the original and generated harmonics and varies the slope of the attenuation weighting dynamically according to the missing fundamental frequency. Objective and subjective tests show that the proposed harmonic weighting scheme provides more natural and effective bass perception in a limited situation than the conventional schemes, which implies that the phase matching is essential for the high quality bass enhancement.

  • A dependence of weighting parameter in preconditioning method for solving low Mach number flow with incompressible flow nature is investigated. The present preconditioning method employs a finite-difference method applied Roe‘s flux difference splitting approximation with the MUSCL-TVD scheme and 4th-order Runge-Kutta method in curvilinear coordinates. From the computational results of benchmark flows through a 2-D backward-facing step duct it is confirmed that there exists a suitable value of the weighting parameter for accurate and stable computation. A useful method to determine the weighting parameter is introduced. With this method, high accuracy and stable computational results were obtained for the flow with low Mach number in the range of Mach number less than 0.3.

  • In this paper, a new scheme to calculate the weighting factor of the 2-D isotropic-dispersion finite difference time domain(ID-FDTD) is proposed. The weighting factor in [1] was formulated in free space, so that it may not be optimal in dielectric media. Therefore, the weighting factor was reformulated by considering the material properties and using the least mean square method. As a result, a minimum numerical dispersion error for any dielectric media is guaranteed.

  • A general scheme for a discrete adaptive observer having exponetial weighting properties is presented for a single-input single-output linear system. In this scheme, all the past measurement data are weighted esponetially both with the weighting factor and the stable matrix F. This observer is then implemented in the design of an indirect adaptive pole placement contoller. To increase nemerical stability in getting the controller parameter, a recusive algorithm is introduced. It is shown that the overall control scheme is globally stable with the persistent excition
