In this study, a numerical simulation was developed which was capable of predicting the characteristics of NO formation in pilot scale combustor adopting the air-staged burner flame. The numerical calculation was constructed by means of establishing the mathematical models fur turbulence, turbulent combustion, radiation and turbulent nitric oxide chemistry. Turbulence was solved with standard k-$\xi$ model and the turbulent combustion model was incorporated using a two step reaction scheme together with an eddy dissipation model. The radiative transfer equation was calculated by means of the discrete ordinates method with the weighted sum of gray gases model for CO$_2$and H$_2$O. In the NO chemistry model, the chemical reaction rates for thermal and prompt NO were statistically averaged using the $\beta$ probability density function. The results were validated by comparison with measurements. For the experiment, a 0.2 MW pilot multi-air staged burner has been designed and fabricated. Only when the radiation was taken into account, the predicted gas temperature was in good agreement with the experimental one, which meant that the inclusion of radiation was indispensable for modeling multi-air staged gas flame. This was also true of the prediction of the NO formation, since it heavily depended on temperature. Subsequently, it was found that the multi-air staged combustion technique might be used as a practical tool in reducing the NO formation by controlling the peak flame temperature.
In this paper, we propose the method to measure tensions of character motions, using LMA (Laban Movement Analysis). Using tension values, we tan take advantage of them as a standard for synchronization of motion and BGM(Back Ground Music). In LMA, a motion is divided into 4 space-time factors which are called Efforts, and each Effort has two bases opposed to each other. We can analyze the motion by justifying which basis is stronger than the other in each Effort of motion. To measure quantitatively tension values, we propose some equations based on kinematics and dynamics. Then we can measure the tension value by the weighted sum of values calculated from those equations. Each weight can be determined by the optimization process which tries to minimize the difference between the calculated tension value and human's decision. The experimental result shows that the in creasing order of the motion tension value is similar to that of the tension score given by human.

Northern Gyeonggi Province(NGP), consisting of 3 counties, is the northernmost region in South Korea adjacent to the de-militarized zone with North Korea. To supplement insufficient spatial coverage of official climate data and climate atlases based on those data, high-resolution digital climate models(DCM) were prepared to support weather- related activities of residents in NGP Monthly climate data from 51 synoptic stations across both North and South Korea were collected for 1981-2000. A digital elevation model(DEM) for this region with 30m cell spacing was used with the climate data for spatially interpolating daily maximum and minimum temperatures, solar irradiance, and precipitation based on relevant topoclimatological models. For daily minimum temperature, a spatial interpolation scheme accommodating the potential influences of cold air accumulation and the temperature inversion was used. For daily maximum temperature estimation, a spatial interpolation model loaded with the overheating index was used. Daily solar irradiances over sloping surfaces were estimated from nearby synoptic station data weighted by potential relative radiation, which is the hourly sum of relative solar intensity. Precipitation was assumed to increase with the difference between virtual terrain elevation and the DEM multiplied by an observed rate. Validations were carried out by installing an observation network specifically for making comparisons with the spatially estimated temperature pattern. Freezing risk in January was estimated for major fruit tree species based on the DCMs under the recurrence intervals of 10, 30, and 100 years, respectively. Frost risks at bud-burst and blossom of tree flowers were also estimated for the same resolution as the DCMs.
One of the problems we face up at the time of planning or improving a transportation transfer facility is which modes and how close we have to put together. The goal here is to keep the connecting transportation mode as close as possible to the prime transit mode, so people travel a minimum transfer path, a distance from one mode to another. Too much a physical separation between modes will limit, even with an intensive improvement of the component links, the level of service of a transfer path as a whole. This study defined a transfer path as the whole stretch of the distance from an arrival point of one mode to the departure point of the connecting mode. The transfer path was divided into three typical segments as side walk, stairways, and indoor corridors. Preference surveys were made for each of these segments, resulting in relative resistance. The sum of individual segments weighted with the relative resistance will make a transfer resistance of the path, which in turn constitutes a transfer utility function together with the overall satisfaction score obtained by the interview survey. The transfer utility function has been utilized to evaluate the transfer distance between modes.

Recently, Heterogeneous Network (HetNet) with Coordinated Multi-Point (CoMP) scheme is introduced into Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) systems to improve digital services for User Equipments (UEs), especially for cell-edge UEs. However, Radio Resource Management (RRM), including Resource Block (RB) scheduling and Power Allocation (PA), in this scenario becomes challenging, due to the intercell cooperation. In this paper, we investigate the RRM problem for downlink transmission of HetNet system with Joint Processing (JP) CoMP (both joint transmission and dynamic cell selection schemes), aiming at maximizing weighted sum data rate under the constraints of both transmission power and backhaul capacity. First, joint RB scheduling and PA problem is formulated as a constrained Mixed Integer Programming (MIP) which is NP-hard. To simplify the formulation problem, we decompose it into two problems of RB scheduling and PA. For RB scheduling, we propose an algorithm with less computational complexity to achieve a suboptimal solution. Then, according to the obtained scheduling results, we present an iterative Karush-Kuhn-Tucker (KKT) method to solve the PA problem. Extensive simulations are conducted to verify the effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed algorithms. Two kinds of JP CoMP schemes are compared with a non-CoMP greedy scheme (max capacity scheme). Simulation results prove that the CoMP schemes with the proposed RRM algorithms dramatically enhance data rate of cell-edge UEs, thereby improving UEs' fairness of data rate. Also, it is shown that the proposed PA algorithms can decrease power consumption of transmission antennas without loss of transmission performance.

We have applied an advanced multi-aperture indexing photometry and sophisticated de-trending method to existing Taiwanese-American Occultation Survey (TAOS) data sets. TAOS, a wide-field ($3^{\circ}{\times}3^{\circ}$) and rapid photometry (5Hz) survey, is designed to detect small objects in the Kuiper Belt. Since TAOS has fast and multiple exposures per zipper mode image, point spread function (PSF) varies in a given image. Selecting appropriate aperture among various size apertures allows us to reflect these variations in each light curve. The survey data turned out to contain various trends such as telescope vibration, CCD noise, and unstable local weather. We select multiple sets of stars using a hierarchical clustering algorithm in such a way that the light curves in each cluster show strong correlations between them. We then determine a primary trend (PT) per cluster using a weighted sum of the normalized light curves, and we use the constructed PTs to remove trends in individual light curves. After removing the trend, we can get each synthetic light curve of star that has much higher signal-to-noise ratio. We compare the efficiency of the synthetic light curves with the efficiency of light curves made by previous existing photometry pipelines. Our photometric method is able to restore subtle brightness variation that tends to be missed in conventional aperture photometric methods, and can be applied to other wide-field surveys suffering from PSF variations and trends. We are developing an analysis package for the next generation TAOS survey (TAOS II) based on the current experiments.

In this paper, we propose a homomorphic wavelet-based MMSE filter with edge detection to restore images degraded by speckle noise. In the proposed method, a noisy image is first transformed into logarithmic domain. Each pixel in the transformed image is then classified into flat and edge regions by applying DIP operator to the image restored by homomorphic directional MMSE filter. Each pixel in flat region is restored by homomorphic wavelet-based MMSE filter. Each pixel in edge region is restored by the weighted sum of the output of homomorphic wavelet-based MMSE filtering and that of homomorphic directional MMSE filtering. The restored image in spatial domain is finally obtained by applying the exponential function to the restored image in logarithmic domain. Experimental results show that the restored images by the proposed method have ISNR improvement of 3.3-4.0 ㏈ and ${\beta}$, a measurement parameter on edge preservation, improvement of 0.0103-0.0126 and superior subjective image quality over those by conventional methods.

In this paper, we propose two novel detection schemes with low-complexity based on the unified receiver architecture which minimizes a fundamental tradeoff at rate-energy region in SWIPT system. The proposed detection schemes are twofold: The two-stage detection scheme and Euclidean distance combination detection scheme. The two-stage detection scheme detects amplitude information of symbols from rectified signals for energy harvesting. In the sequel, it detects symbols based on phase information of baseband signals for information decoding. The Euclidean distance combination detection scheme detects symbols using linear positive-weighted sum of two metrics: Euclidean distance based on baseband signals for information decoding and Euclidean distance based on rectified signals for energy harvesting. For numerical results, we confirm that the proposed detection scheme can achieve better performance than the conventional scheme in terms of symbol error rate, symbol success rate-energy region and achievable rate-energy region.

This paper analyzes the performance of a face recognition algorithm using the eigenfaces method. In the absence of robust personal recognition schemes, a biometric recognition system has essentially researched to improve their shortcomings. A face recognition system in biometries is widely researched in the field of computer vision and pattern recognition, since it is possible to comprehend intuitively our faces. The proposed system projects facial images onto a feature space that effectively expresses the significant variations among known facial images. The significant features are known as 'eigenfaces', because they are the eigenvectors(principal components) of the set of faces. The projection operation characterizes an individual face by a weighted sum of the eigenface features, and to recognize a particular face it is necessary only to compare these weights to those of known individuals. In order to analyze the performance of the system, we develop a face recognition system by using Harvard database in Harvard Robotics Laboratory. We present the recognition rate according to variations on the lighting condition, numbers of the employed eigenfaces, and existence of a pre-processing step. Finally, we construct a rejection curve in order to investigate the practicability of the recognition method using the eigenfaces.
This paper describes a method of detecting formation boundaries, and permeable fractures, from frequency-domain Stoneley wave logs. Field data sets were collected between the depths of 330 and 360 m in well EE-4 in the Higashi-Hachimantai geothermal field, using a monopole acoustic logging tool with a source central frequency of 15 kHz. Stoneley wave amplitude spectra were calculated by performing a fast Fourier transform on the waveforms, and the spectra were then collected into a frequency-depth distribution of Stoneley wave amplitudes. The frequency-domain Stoneley wave log shows four main characteristic peaks at frequencies 6.5, 8.8, 12, and 13.3 kHz. The magnitudes of the Stoneley wave at these four frequencies are affected by formation properties. The Stoneley wave at higher frequencies (12 and 13.3 kHz) has higher amplitudes in hard formations than in soft formations, while the wave at lower frequencies (6.5 and 8.8 kHz) has higher amplitudes in soft formations than in hard formations. The correlation of the frequency-domain Stoneley wave log with the logs of lithology, degree of welding, and P-wave velocity is excellent, with all of them showing similar discontinuities at the depths of formation boundaries. It is obvious from these facts that the frequency-domain Stoneley wave log provides useful clues for detecting formation boundaries. The frequency-domain Stoneley wave logs are also applicable to the detection of a single permeable fracture. The procedure uses the Stoneley wave spectral amplitude logs at the four frequencies, and weighting functions. The optimally weighted sum of the four Stoneley wave spectral amplitudes becomes almost constant at all depths, except at the depth of a permeable fracture. The assumptions that underlie this procedure are that the energy of the Stoneley wave is conserved in continuous media, but that attenuation of the Stoneley wave may occur at a permeable fracture. This attenuation may take place at anyone of the four characteristic Stoneley wave frequencies. We think our multispectral approach is the only reliable method for the detection of permeable fractures.
