  • This study was conducted to extend the storage period of onion. After pre-drying process of onion, its storage was investigated at room temperature during a month. When ozone was treated with the concentration of 3 ppm in warehouse, the weight loss and the rotten rate of onion were remarkably decreased compared with control. Typical odor of onion was completely removed by the ozone treation during the storage.

  • Biodegradation of poly(ethylene carbonate) (PEC) and their terpolymers has been investigated in vitro. PEC has been synthesized with ethylene oxide (EO) and carbon dioxide, which is one of the greenhouse gases using Zinc glutarate has been used as catalyst Carbonate terpolymers have been prepared by the use of EO, cyclohexene oxide(CHO), and carbon dioxide. High biodegradability of PEC and terpolymers with EO. has been observed. Very low biodegradation of poly(propylene carbonate) (PPC) and poly(cyclohexene carbonate) (PCHC) has been shown. The weight loss, FT-IR and SEM have been employed to characterize biodegradability.

  • Thermal properties of EVA dust and its risks of coexisting with oxidizer were investigated by a pressure vessel. The decomposition of EVA dust with temperature using DSC and the weight loss with temperature using TGA were also investigated to find the thermal hazard of EVA dust. Using the pressure vessel which can estimate ignition and explosion of EVA dust coexisting with oxidizer by bursting of a rupture disc, many experiments have been conducted by varying the orifice diameter, heating rate, the weight ratio of the sample coexisting with oxidizer, and the species of oxidizer. According to the results of the thermal analysis of EVA dust, a little change of the decomposition initiation temperature with the heating rate could be found and the decomposition temperature zone of EVA dust was 250 to 50$0^{\circ}C$. The risk of EVA dust coexisting with oxidizer was increased as the orifice diameter was decreased. On the other hand, it was increased as the heating rate and the weight ratio of the sample coexisting with oxidizer were increased. In addition, the risk of EVA dust coexisting with oxidizer was affected by the decomposition temperature of the sample and oxidizer, respectively, at slow heating rate, but it was affected by the oxygen weight percent of oxidizer at fast heating rate.

  • Overfishing, climate change, and competitive fishing have led to a continuous decline in fishery production. To address these issues, the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) system has been established, which sets annual catch quotas for individual fish species and allows fishing only within those limits. As part of the TAC system, land-based investigators measure the length and height of fish species at auction markets to calculate the weight and TAC depletion. However, the accuracy of the acquired data varies depending on the skill level of the land-based investigators, and the labor-intensive nature of the work makes it unsustainable. To address these issues, this paper proposes a fish species recognition and length measurement system that automatically measures the length, height, and weight of eight TAC-managed fish species using the camera of a smart pad that can measure the distance to the water surface. This system can help to automate the current labor-intensive work, minimize data loss, and facilitate the establishment of the TAC system.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Lycii fructus powder on the quality characteristics of sponge cake. Sponge cakes were prepared consisting of 10%, 20%, 30% or 40% Lycii fructus powder. The specific gravity, baking loss. and pH of sponge cake batter measured. The specific gravities of the batter with Lycii fructus powder were higher than the control. Baking loss rate and cake weight increased with the ratio of Lycii fructus powder. The specific volume of sponge cake were gradually increased by increasing the amount of powder. The lightness and yellowness values of the control were higher than sponge cake added with Lycii fructus powder cakes, and 40% Lycii fructus powder showed the lowest value. The substance's level of springiness and cohesiveness decreased as the amount of Lycii fructus powder increased. In the sensory evaluation, the cake with Lycii fructus powder exhibited high overall eating quality. In particular, the cakes with 10% Lycii fructus were preferred for taste, texture, and overal acceptability. The results show that sponge cakes added with 10% Lycil powder were considered the best.

  • Rebar corrosion in cement mortar containing chloride ions was investigated by electrochemical AC impedance spectroscopy. Corrosion of mild steel bar was accelerated by an acceleration test equipment in short period. Impedance values obtained from AC-impedance method could be adapted to the proposed electrochemical equivalent circuit model and they were consistent with calculated values obtained by CNLS fitting method. The weight loss of rebar could be calculated by charge transfer resistance($R_2$) with time and it was close to real value.

  • The aromatic hyperbranched polyamide was synthesized from 5-aminoisophthalic acid by direct polycondensation with triphenylphosphite (TPP) catalyst as a condensing agent. The modification of end-groups in the resulting hyperbranched polymer (HBP) with various alkyl alcohols were conducted. The modification of end-groups of HBP by alkyl groups resulted in an improved solubility in the THF comparing to that of the carboxylic acid-terminated aromatic HBP, Also, 10 wt$\%$ weight loss temperature decreased by increasing the length of alkyl group.

  • This study was carried out to investigate the changes of flower properties due to decomposition in the course of time and results obtained are as follows; 1. The flower shape of Salix babylonica changed so rapid that it was difficult to recognize fragments after 40 days. 2. Total weight decreased by 50% after about 40 days. Loss on ignition changed rapidly for 40 days and then steadily. 3. Remaining carbon content decreased by a half only for first 20 days, then did steadily. 4. The content of phosphorus and total nitrogen slowly during the early period and then rapidly. 5. Above phenomena are supposed to be responisble for water content, nitrogen, and phosphorus.

  • ffects of radiation on the thermal and mechanical properties of modified epoxy resin and hydrogenated bisphenol-A type epoxy resin based neutron shielding materials to be used for radioactive material shipping and storage casks have been investigated. The onset temperatures of the shielding materials of KNS(Kaeri Neutron Shield)-201 and KNS-302 increased with the radiation dose, but those of KNS-202 and KNS-301 decreased at radiation dose above 0.5 MGy. In addition, the radiation dose rarely affected the change of weight of shielding materials with the variation in temperature. At radiation dose up to 0.1 MGy, thermal conductivities of shielding materials were not affected. The thermal expansion coefficients of the shielding materials of KNS-301 and 302 were affected to a less extent than those of KNS-201 and 202 by radiation. At radiation dose up to 0.1 MGy, the tensile strength, compressive strength and flexural strength of the shielding materials of KNS-202 and KNS-301 and 302 increased with the radiation dose. In contrast, those of KNS-201 decreased with an increase in the radiation dose. In addition, the amount of radiation dose on the shielding materials did not result in a measurable loss of specific gravity, weight and hydrogen content.

  • This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of Citrus peel powder on the quality characteristics of sponge cake. Citrus peel powder sponge cake was prepared with different ration of Citrus peel powder(0, 10, 20, 30, 40%). The specific gravity, baking loss rate and cake weight increases as the ratio of Citrus peel powder. The sponge cake's a, b level increased with the increasing level of Citrus peel powder 40% appeared to be the highest. In terms of textural characteristics, the samples containing 10, 20, and 40% Citrus peel powder had significantly higher hardness than the control samples. The substance's level of springiness, and cohesiveness decreased as the Citrus peel powder additive increased. In sensory evaluation, overall acceptability and taste of the cake was better than others when 10% Citrus peel powder was added. The results indicated that substituting 10% Citrus peel powder to sponge cake is optimal for quality and provides a product with reasonable high overall acceptability.
