In order to develop high voltage (HV) insulation materials, epoxy/spherical alumina composites with two different particle sizes (in ${\mu}m$) were prepared and a dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) and electrical insulation breakdown strength test were carried out in sphere-sphere electrodes and the data were estimated using Weibull statistical analysis. Alumina content varied from 50 to 70 wt%. The electrical insulation breakdown strength for epoxy/alumina (50 wt%) was 44.0 kV/1 mm and this value decreased with increasing alumina content. The effects of insulation thickness and alumina particle size on the insulation breakdown strength were also studied. The insulation thickness varied from 1 mm to 3 mm, and the particle sizes were 7.3 or $40.3{\mu}m$.
This paper deals with the variability of short term creep rupture time based on previous creep rupture tests and the statistical methodology of the creep life prediction. The results of creep tests performed using constant uniaxial stresses at 600, 650, and $700^{\circ}C$ elevated temperatures were used for a statistical analysis of the inter-specimen variability of the short term creep rupture time. Even under carefully controlled identical testing conditions, the observed short-term creep rupture time showed obvious inter-specimen variability. The statistical aspect of the short term creep rupture time was analyzed using a Weibull statistical analysis. The effect of creep stress on the variability of the creep rupture time was decreased with an increase in the stress level. The effect of the temperature on the variability also decreased with increasing temperature. A long term creep life prediction method that considers this statistical variability is presented. The presented method is in good agreement with the Lason-Miller Parameter (LMP) life prediction method.

The aim of the study was to investigate the statistical distribution of muzzle velocity of 155mm propelling charge K676 which is for the use of K9, a korean 155mm self-propelled artillery. A plenty of muzzle velocity data were collected from lot assessment test of propelling charge. The muzzle velocity of each test round is compensated by reference round. In the present work, the detailed statistical analysis of the muzzle velocity data is carried out using probability models including normal, Weibull 2-parameter and Weibull 3-parameter distributions. The results of goodness of fit test showed that the normal distribution described more appropriately the experimentally measured muzzle velocity data and the Weibull distribution is also applicable. The coefficient of variation showed that the mass production capability of each propelling charge lot has been maintained.

Insulation systems in Liquefied Natural Gas Carriers (LNGC) are vulnerable to sloshing impact and fatigue loads because of waves. If gas leaks into the primary barrier, the Flexible Secondary Barrier (FSB) prevents the leakage of gas in this system. Fatigue strength of the FSB largely depends on the behavior of composite materials. In this study, a new system is applied to the FSB using aramid fiber to improve the fatigue strength of the secondary barrier, with the intention of replacing conventional E-glass fibers. The manufacturing method involved varying the ratio of the aramid fiber to the E-glass fiber for optimum design of the FSB. The fatigue tests results of the secondary barrier using aramid fiber were superior to that using E-glass fiber. The statistical analysis is performed to obtain the fatigue test results and estimate the probability of failure as well as the design guideline of LNGC secondary barriers.

In this study, the characteristic lifetime of power facilities such as power transformers and GIS were investigated as the basis of power facility asset management. It is difficult to obtain the operation and failure data of the facilities in Korea. Therefore, the number of failures of the electric power facilities was calculated from the operation data and hazard rate shown in the overseas literatures, and the statistical analysis was performed using the Weibull distribution function. As a result of extracting and analyzing the data of the UK National Grid for power transformers, the characteristic lifetime (scale parameter) of 116.45 years was considered to be a very appropriate value for power transformer management and can be used as a comparative data of the analysis of the domestic transformers. As for the GIS, based on the Bays and Bay-Years data and the hazard rate according to the operation years of the 123kV GIS in Germany, it is found out that the characteristic lifetime of GIS is not so meaningful. It is necessary to decide a maintenance strategy and lifetime expectancy considering the characteristics of the design, materials and manufacturing process of GIS.

In order to study the effect of reactive diluents on the electrical insulation breakdown strength and mechanical properties of, a polyglycol and an aliphatic epoxy were individually introduced to an epoxy system. Reactive diluents were used in order to decrease the viscosity of the epoxy system; polyglycol acted as a flexibilizer and 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDGE) acted as an aliphatic epoxy, which then acted as a chain extender after curing reaction. The ac electrical breakdown strength was estimated in sphere-to-sphere electrodes and the electrical breakdown strength was estimated by Weibull statistical analysis. The scale parameters of the electrical breakdown strengths for the epoxy resin, epoxy-polyglycol, and epoxy-BDGE were 45.0, 46.2, and 45.1 kV/mm, respectively. The flexural and tensile strengths for epoxy-BDGE were lower than those of the epoxy resin and those for epoxy-polyglycol were lower than those of the epoxy resin.

The effect of fiber diameter and gauge length on pull-out test for the interfacial properties in fiber reinforced resin composites have been investigated and these results have been arranged as statistical analysis. The fiber and matrix resins used for this study were stainless steel fiber (SUS316) and carbon fiber (high strength type), epoxy and high density polyethylene resin. From this study, it has been found that shear strength are constant regardless of gauge length of pull-out test and coefficient of variation depend on fiber diameter. In addition, it has been found that the interfacial shear strength decreased with the increasing fiber diameter, and in all case, Weibull parameter (m) has approximately 1.2/C.O.V.

Carbon nitride coatings on the substrates of 0.55wt% C - 1.68wt% Mn induction-hardened rolling elements were prepared by ion beam assisted deposition. It was found through metallographic observation that the carbon nitride coatings appeared lamellar-type repeated layers parallel to the surface of substrate. Surface roughness of the coated specimens was improved in comparison with that of the substrates. Wear resistance of the coatings was evaluated using Polymet RCF-1 machine with a constant supply of lubricant followed by Weibull statistical analysis and scanning electron microscopy. the results indicated failure due to old-age wear-out of the coatings was mainly caused by numerous micropits formed on the wear track during repeated rolling contact.

This paper presents a statistical approach to analyze electrical tree inception voltage, electrical tree breakdown voltage and tree breakdown time of unsaturated polyester resin subjected to AC voltage. The aim of this work was to show that Weibull and lognormal distribution may not be the most suitable distributions for analysis of electrical treeing data. In this paper, an investigation of statistical distributions of electrical tree inception voltage, electrical tree breakdown voltage and breakdown time data was performed on 108 leaf-like specimen samples. Revelations from the test results showed that Johnson SB distribution is the best fit for electrical tree inception voltage and tree breakdown time data while electrical tree breakdown voltage data is best suited with Wakeby distribution. The fitting step was performed by means of Anderson-Darling (AD) Goodness-of-fit test (GOF). Based on the fitting results of tree inception voltage, tree breakdown time and tree breakdown voltage data, Johnson SB and Wakeby exhibit the lowest error value respectively compared to Weibull and lognormal.
This paper suggests a method using Bayesian inference to estimate the parameters of Weibull distribution and acceleration parameters under the condition that the stresses are time-dependent functions. A Bayesian model based on the discrete time approximation is formulated to infer the parameters of interest from the failure data of the virtual tests and a statistical analysis is considered to decide the most probable mean values of the parameters for reasoning of the failure data.
