  • The objective of the present work is to examine the variation of cooling characteristics due to the Weber number of droplet on a heated surface. The surface temperatures varied from 72.5 - $106.1^{\circ}C$ on steel and Teflon, when Weber number was 60, 180, 300. The results are as follows; In the case of the same droplet size, the initial temperature of solid increases the indepth temperature of solid more drop. In the case of the same surface temperature, Weber number increases with increasing the cooling effect of droplet. The time-average heat flux increases with increasing the initial temperature of solid and Weber number. The evaporation time decreases with increasing the initial temperature of solid and Weber number.

  • The breakup behaviors of impinging droplet on a hot surface are studied experimentally. The droplets are produced by the dripping method and the breakup behaviors of liquid droplet are recorded by photographs. Experimental conditions are, droplet diameter di : 2.5, 3.2 [mm], weber number : $30{\sim}140$, surface temperature : $28^{\circ}C(room\;temperature){\sim}450^{\circ}C$. Water is used to liquid. As weber number of droplet increases, a liquid sheet, which is formed after the impingement on a hot surface, is disintergrated by the dynamical effect. But at low weber number, it has effected by thermodynamical effect. The breakup behaviors of droplet are divided into three patterns with weber number and surface temperature, non-disintegration, transition and disintegration region. Further, these boundary values are affected by the hot surface temperature and weber number. SMD of breakup droplets are calculated in according to surface temperatures and weber number. The minium SMD of breakup droplets are observed at weber number 65.49, temperature $250^{\circ}C$ and weber number 99.08, temperature $350^{\circ}C$.

  • Sturge-Weber syndrome is a rare nonhereditary developmental condition that is characterized by a hamartomatous vascular proliferation involving the tissue of brain and face. The clinical features are characterized by port wine nevus following one or more divisions of trigeminal nerve, ocular involvement and neurologic involvement such as epilepsy, mental retardation, and contralateral hemiplegia. Oral manifestations include unilateral blood vessel expansion of the oral mucosa, vascular hyperplasia of gingiva, pyogenic granuloma-like massive hemangiomatous proliferation of oral mucosa, macrodontia, ipsilateral macroglossia, blood vessel anomaly of maxilla or mandible and abnormal tooth eruption sequence. This case report is about 11-year-old Sturge-Weber syndrome patient presented port wine nevus on the face, venous malformation on soft plate and buccal mucosa. In this case we performed simple extraction of several deciduous teeth and periodic oral hygiene management. If a patient with Sturge-Weber syndrome has to undergo dental surgery in affected areas of the mouth, great care must be taken to prevent severe hemorrhage.

  • We introduce a non-Euclidean metric for transportation systems with a defined minimum transportation cost (initial fare) and investigate the continuous single-facility Weber location problem based on this metric. The proposed algorithm uses the results for solving the Weber problem with Euclidean metric by Weiszfeld procedure as the initial point for a special local search procedure. The results of local search are then checked for optimality by calculating directional derivative of modified objective functions in finite number of directions. If the local search result is not optimal then algorithm solves constrained Weber problems with Euclidean metric to obtain the final result. An illustrative example is presented.

  • In this paper, a DCT image coding algorithm using the human visual property is proposed. Human visual is relatively sensitive to noise in the darker region, insensitive to noise in the brighter region. This property was proved by Weber's law through psycovisual experiment. Weber's law states that the just noticeable difference (j.n.d.) is proportional to intensity. Therefore, the implication of this observation for image processing is that reducing noise in the darker region is more important than reducing noise in the brighter region. In this proposed coding scheme AC coefficients in the darker region are more finely quantized than those in the brighter region. Results showed that, at low bit rate, the subjective quality of reconstructed images by proposed coding scheme is improved than that of coding scheme without considering human visual property.

  • A histogram equalization method have been used traditionally for the image enhancement of low quality images. This uses the transformation function, which is a cumulative density function of an input image, and it has mathematically maximum entropy. This method, however, may yield whitening artifacts. This paper proposes the weighted histogram equalization method based on histogram equalization. It has Weber-Fechner's law for a human's vision characteristics, and a dynamic range modification to solve the problem of some methods, which yield a transformation function, regardless of the input image. Finally, the proposed transformation function was calculated using the weighted average of Weber-Fechner and the histogram equalization transformation functions in a modified dynamic range. The simulation results showed that the proposed algorithm effectively enhances the contrast in terms of the subjective quality. In addition, the proposed method has similar or higher entropy than the other conventional approaches.

  • The effects of injection conditions on the droplet sizes resulting from the disintegration of a liquid jet by a fast annular gas stream have been investigated using PDPA. The gas/liquid momentum ratio M = $\rho$$_{g}$ $U_{g}$$^2$/$\rho$$_1$ $U_1$$^2$ and Weber number We = $\rho$$_{g}$ $g^2$ $D_1$/$\sigma$ are selected as key parameters in atomization of shear coaxial spray from the fluid mechanics standpoint. It is revealed that SMD( $D_{32}$) varies inversely with gas/liquid momentum ratio(M), whereas Weber number(We) has little effect on the droplet sizes as gas velocities increase. It is found that gas/liquid momentum ratio is more dominant factor controlling the breakup and atomization process of shear coaxial spray. Finally, an empirical correlation between SMD and injection conditions(i.e. gas/liquid momentum ratio M and Weber number We) is proposed based on the experimental results.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the characteristic perfusion changes in patients with Sturge-Weber syndrome by comparison of the findings of brain MR images and perfusion SPECT images. $^{99m}Tc$-HMPAO or $^{99m}Tc$-ECD interictal brain SPECTs were performed on 5 pediatric patients with Sturge-Weber syndrome within 2 weeks after MR imaging. Brain SPECTs of three patients without calcification showed diminished perfusion in the affected area on MR image. A 3 month-old patient without brain atrophy or calcification demonstrated paradoxical hyperperfusion in the affected hemisphere, and follow-up perfusion SPECT revealed decreased perfusion in the same area. The other patient with advanced calcified lesion and atrophy on MR image showed diffusely decreased perfusion in the affected hemisphere, but a focal area of increased perfusion was also noted in the ipsilateral temporal lobe on SPECT. In conclusion, brain perfusion of the affected area of Sturge-Weber syndrome patients was usually diminished, but early or advanced patients may show paradoxical diffuse or focal hyperperfusion in the affected hemisphere. Further studies are needed for better understanding of these perfusion changes and pathophysiology of Sturge-Weber syndrome.
