  • As shown in Wikipedia, tagging or cross-linking through major key-words improves the readability of documents. Recently, the Semantic Web rises the importance of social tagging as a key feature of the Web 2.0 and Tag Cloud has emerged as its crucial phenotype. In this paper we provides an efficient method of automated keyword tagging based on controlled term collection, where the computational complexity of O(mN) - if pattern matching algorithm is used - can be reduced to O(mlogN) - if Information Retrieval is adopted - while m is the length of target document and N is the total number of candidate terms to be tagged. The result shows that IR-based tagging speeds up 5.6 times compared with fast pattern matching algorithm.

  • Today's Web tends to change from simple guideline to more complex information Provider based on large amount of data, enabling a better understanding of the objects. It provides various information retrieval techniques. Therefore, these data have to be stored and maintained in a database system for efficiency and consistency. But database system absolutely requires systematic and consistent management techniques. As a consequence, a high trained and well-educated person should do it. In this paper, we design and implement a tool for easy and reliable database table creation and management on the web. If users log in this system, they can get a list of tables created by themselves and will find a hyper link per each table. Futhermore, they can view and manage it's contents.

  • According to a long-term master plan for the implementing of MOMAF's marine environmental informatization, we have developed marine environment portal web site which consists of 7 main-menu and 39 sub-menu including various types of contents (text, image and multimedia) based on RDBMS. This portal site was opened in Oct., 2002 (http://www.meps.info). Also, for the national institutions' distributed DB which is archived and managed respectively the marine chemical data and biological data, the integrated retrieval system was developed. This system is meaningful for the making collaborative use of real data and could be applied for data mining, marine research, marine environmental GIS and making-decisions.

  • The Google search site (http://www.google.com), which was introduced in 1998, implemented the PageRank algorithm for the first time. PageRank is a ranking method based on the link structure of the Web pages. Even though PageRank has been implemented and being used in various commercial search engines, implementation details did not get documented well, primarily due to business reasons. Implementation techniques introduced in [4,8] are not sufficient to produce PageRank values of Web pages. This paper explains the techniques[4,8], and suggests major data structure and four implementation techniques in order to apply the PageRank algorithm. The paper helps understand the methods of applying PageRank algorithm by means of showing a real system that produces PageRank values of Web pages.

  • On a huge space of information called the Internet, users can use a smart mobile web to get information on various intellectual fields and can access to various Medias such as personal blogs and social networking sites (SNS). This is why a vast amount of information on the web has been effectively managed and researched nowadays through a technology named Semantic Web. However, it still needs for an improvement for studies on searching for intellectual information, though it is enhanced to integrate variously spread information and search for intellectual information user-oriented. Thus, this study aims to research on searching information and knowledge spread around a knowledge-filled information space, which can improve credibility according to user-oriented logic.

  • Stroke, also called an attack on the brain, is a complex disease that results from the interaction of many genetic and environmental factors. StrokePortal is a comprehensive resource for information on stroke that integrates and provides essential findings regarding stroke pathology, diagnostics, and treatments, based on Oriental and Western medicine. The stroke information was collected from various sources, such as journal articles, books, websites, and news stories, and it was refined, classified, and stored into a relational database system by automatic classification and manual curation. To provide the stored information effectively to users, a specialized retrieval system, based on web interfaces, was implemented. StrokePortal provides cutting-edge information to experts; interested people, including patients and their families; and investigators to broaden their knowledge of effective treatments for patients and offer many preventive measures. It provides a specialized feature with which users can upload their information and opinions to StrokePortal, which will enrich and mature the content even further. StrokePortal is freely accessible at http://genomics.kribb.re.kr/StrokePortal/.

  • Defining the concept of prominent audio content as the most informative audio content from the users' perspective within a given unstructured audio segment, we propose a simple but robust intensity-based attack/release pattern features to detect the prominent audio content. We also propose a web-based annotation procedure to retrieve users' subjective perception and annotated 18 hours of video clips across various genres, such as cartoon, movie, news, etc. The experiments with a linear classification method whose models are trained for speech, music, and sound effect demonstrate promising - but varying across the genres of programs - results (e.g., 86.7% weighted accuracy for speech-oriented talk shows and 49.3% weighted accuracy for {action movies}).

  • This study provides a new operation strategy which can guarantee the data consistency of engineering information among the various intelligent information systems. We present the strategies for the operation of bridges engineering information and the construction methodology of integrated database. The two core standard techniques are adopted to construct the integrated database. One of these standards is the Standard for the Exchange of Product Model Data (STEP) for CAD/CAE information and the other is the Extensible Markup Language (XML) for engineering document information. This study can transform a document me into a data type for web-based application modules which assist end-users in searching and retrieval of engineering document data. In addition, relaying algorithm is developed to integrate the two different information, e.g. CAD/CAE information and engineering document information. The pilot application modules for management and maintenance of existing bridge are also developed to show application of the strategy.

  • The purpose of this study is to design hypertext-based linear displays for an online thesaurus in librarianship and information science with the aid of ISO and ANSI/NISO thesaurus standards. This study starts with the assumptions that hypertext-based online thesauri would provide a convenient and useful subject retrieval tool to both indexers and searchers of information and become starting point for the study of thesauri searching patterns, which were difficult with printed thesauri. For this study, thesaurus of librarianship and information science was stored in MS ACCESS 97 as a relational database and, for the conjunction of a relational database with World Wide Web, technics of ASP(Active Server Pages) were applied under Windows NT operation.

  • From this year, KIGAM, one of Korean government-supported research institutes, has started new national program for digital geologic/natural resources infrastructure building. The goal of this program is to prepare digitally oriented infrastructure for practical digital database building, management, and public services of numerous types of paper maps related to geo-scientific resources or geologic thematic map sets: hydro-geologic map, applied geologic map, geo-chemical map, airborne radiometric/magnetic map, coal geologic map and off-shelf bathymetry map and so forth. As for digital infrastructure, several research issues in this topic are composed of: ISP (Information Strategy Planning), geo-framework modeling of each map set, pilot database building, cyber geo-mineral directory service system, and web based geologic information retrieval system upgrade which services Korean digital geologic maps scaled 1:50K. In this study, UML (Unified Modeling Language)-based data modeling of geo-data sets by and in KIGAM, among them, is mainly discussed, and its results are also presented in the viewpoint of digital geo-modeling ISP. It is expected this model is further progressed with the purpose of being a guidance or framework modeling for geologic thematic mapping and practical database building, as well as other types of national thematic map database building.
