  • Biological data and analysis tools are accumulated in distributed databases and web servers. For this reason, biologists who want to find information from the web should be aware of the various kinds of resources where it is located and how it is retrieved. Integrating the data from heterogeneous biological resources will enable biologists to discover new knowledge across the specific domain boundaries from sequences to expression, structure, and pathway. And inevitably biological databases contain noisy data. Therefore, consensus among databases will confirm the reliability of its contents. We have developed WeSAT that integrates distributed and heterogeneous biological databases and analysis tools, providing through Web Services protocols. In WeSAT, biologists are retrieved specific entries in SWISS-PROT/EMBL, PDB, and KEGG, which have annotated information about sequence, structure, and pathway. And further analysis is carried by integrated services for example homology search and multiple alignments. WeSAT makes it possible to retrieve real time updated data and analysis from the scattered databases in a single platform through Web Services.

  • The purpose of this research is to examine the characteristics and problems of OASIS, a web archive, developed and operated by the National Library of Korea, and then to propose how to improve the quality of its contents. An analysis of the contents in 'Literature' and 'Social Sciences' in the OASIS website shows problems, including low quality of some contents, lack of balance in subjects and creators/publishers, duplicate collections of web documents and web sites, lack of currency and evidence of unique or scholarly value of collected web resources, etc. Suggested are the use of 'real-name' of subject specialists to ensure their responsibilities in selection process and the addition of metadata elements to evidence the appropriate application of selection criteria.

  • Much research on semantic geographic information systems that incorporating the Semantic Web and geographic information has been actively studied. However, the existing geographic information systems have a system dependency problem that users can input and retrieve non-spatial information only in a specific system. It also causes difficulty in providing rich services. Therefore, this paper proposes an implementation model for population of Geo-ontology from non-structured Web resources. The proposed model can populate instances for Web ontology independently of systems, and thus it enables a richer Web service development. Finally, this paper shows the prototype that populates instances including a Geo-ontology building example for a University selected as an application domain.

  • The studies of opinion mining or sentiment analysis have been the focus with social web proliferation. Sentiment analysis requires sentiment resources to decide its polarity. In the existing sentiment analysis, they have been built resources designed with intensity of sentiment polarity and decided polarity of opinion using the ones. In this paper, I will present sentiment categories for not only polarity of opinion but also the basis of positive/negative opinion. I will define psychological emotions to primary sentiments for the reasonable classification. And I will extract the informations of sentiment from social web texts for the actual distribution of sentiments in social web. Re-classifying primary sentiments based on extracted sentiment information, I will organize sentiment categories for the social web. In this paper, I will present 23 categories of sentiment by using proposed method.

  • In spite of the development of computers, the present state that a lot of electronic documents are overflowing makes it more difficult for us to get appropriate information. Therefore, it's more important to focus on getting meaningful information than processing the data quickly In this context, Semantic Web enables an intelligent processing by adding semantic metadata on yow web documents. Also, as the Semantic Web grows, the knowledge resources as well as web resources are getting more and more importance. In this paper, we propose an OWL storage system aiming at an intelligent Processing by adding semantic metadata on your web documents, plus a system aiming at an OWL-QL Query Processing.

  • CoSlide is a collaborative system, extending the Jakarta Slide WebDAV server. The CoSlide server provides group workspaces for collaborators. CoSpace is a client which supports various collaborative authoring activities on the CoSlide server through the WebDAV protocol. CoSpace provides graphic user interfaces to support effective interaction among the collaborators, managing the shared resources for them. However, during collaboration, simultaneous modifications on the content of shared resources might cause conflicts among the content of the revisions made by the collaborators, leading to serious problems on project progress. In this paper, we describe an extension of the CoSpace client to solve the problem. The extended CoSpace client supports the remote version management facility through which the collaborators can manage the versions of the associated server resources in the distance. Also, to identify the changes of the text files such as program source codes, the extended client provides the facility for comparing two versions and displaying the differences in a visual manner. In addition, it provides the version management of a whole workspace and the removal of all the unnecessary versions of the designated resources.

  • This study aimed to present practical strategies for libraries in South Korea, including the National Central Library, to effectively respond to the new challenges of the digital era by systematically comparing and analyzing the status of online material collection and services of libraries both domestically and abroad. To achieve this, we sought to understand the cases and service status of online material collection in major foreign libraries and to derive directions and usage plans for our libraries based on the analysis of these foreign libraries' online material collection status. As a result of this research, it was found that the National Central Library needs to explore various strategies for expanding online material collection, including the proper collection and preservation of web resources that are being created and deleted, as well as expanding openness and utilizing archives. Secondly, as a central institution for future national information resources, it is necessary to establish a strategy for smoothly collecting, preserving, and servicing vast and complex web resources. Thirdly, there is a need to explore ways to implement a national-level web archive that can systematically collect, preserve, and utilize all web resources in our country. In the long term, it should be improved into a national platform capable of systematically collecting, preserving, and utilizing various types of web resources.

  • Subtopic mining is the extraction and ranking of possible subtopics, which disambiguate and specify the search intentions of an input query in terms of relevance, popularity, and diversity. This paper describes the limitations of previous studies on the utilization of web resources, and proposes a subtopic mining method with a two-level hierarchy based on hierarchical search intentions and web resources, in order to overcome these limitations. Considering the characteristics of resources provided by the official subtopic mining task, we extract various second-level subtopics reflecting hierarchical search intentions from web documents, and expand and re-rank them using other provided resources. Terms in subtopics with wider search intentions are used to generate first-level subtopics. Our method performed better than state-of-the-art methods in almost every aspect.
