Analysis of the Thermal Dome Effect from Global Solar Radiation Observed with a Modified Pyranometer

  • Solar radiation data measured by pyranometers is of fundamental use in various fields. In the field of atmospheric optics, the measurement of solar energy must be precise, and the equipment needs to be maintained frequently. However, there seem to be many errors with the existing type of pyranometer, which is an element of the solar-energy observation apparatus. In particular, the error caused by the thermal dome effect occurs because of the thermal offset generated from a temperature difference between outer dome and inner casing. To resolve the thermal dome effect, intensive observation was conducted using the method and instrument designed by Ji and Tsay. The characteristics of the observed global solar radiation were analyzed by classifying the observation period into clear, cloudy, and rainy cases. For the clear-weather case, the temperature difference between the pyranometer's case and dome was highest, and the thermal dome effect was $0.88MJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$. Meanwhile, the thermal dome effect in the cloudy case was $0.69MJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$, because the reduced global solar radiation thus reduced the temperature difference between case and dome. In addition, the rainy case had the smallest temperature difference of $0.21MJ\;m^{-2}\;day^{-1}$. The quantification of this thermal dome effect with respect to the daily accumulated global solar radiation gives calculated errors in the cloudy, rainy, and clear cases of 6.53%, 6.38%, and 5.41% respectively.

Parameterization for Longwave Scattering Properties of Ice Clouds with Various Habits and Size Distribution for Use in Atmospheric Models

  • A parameterization for the scattering of longwave radiation by ice clouds has been developed based on spectral scattering property calculations with shapes and sizes of ice crystals. For this parameterization, the size distribution data by Fu (1996) and by Michell and Arnott (1994) are used. The shapes of ice crystal considered in this study are plate, solid column, hollow column, bullet-rosette, droxtal, aggregate, and spheroid. The properties of longwave scattering by ice crystals are presented as a function of the extinction coefficient, single-scattering albedo, and asymmetry factor. The heating rate and flux by the radiative parameterization model are calculated for wide range of ice crystal sizes, shapes, and optical thickness. The results are compared with the calculated results using a six-stream discrete ordinate scattering algorithm and Chou's method. The new method (with various habits and size distributions) provides a good simulation of the scattering properties and cooling rate in optically thin clouds (optical thickness < 5). Depending on the inclusion of scattering by ice clouds, the errors in the calculation of the cooling rates are significantly different.

도로기하구조 조건에 따른 차량별 온실가스 배출량 산정사례 적용연구 - 맑은 날씨를 기준으로 - (Application Methodology of Greenhouse Gases Emission Table for Various Types of Roads and Vehicles)

  • PURPOSES : This study aimed to offer a greenhouse gases table to assist a road designer in calculating the greenhouse gases for a road environment when making a decision about an alternative road. METHODS : This study developed an operation mode table of greenhouse gases using the MOVES program. Similar factors for Korean vehicles and fuels are reflected in the MOVES program, which was made in the USA. Finally, a paired t-test was conducted to calculate the site data and MOVES data. Through these studies, a methodology was suggested for calculating carbon emissions based on various types of roads alignments. RESULTS : The site results for a passenger truck on the road were statistically significant when the vehicle speed was above 65 km/h. However, a future study will consider factors for various road alignments and vehicles. CONCLUSIONS : This study will contribute to the theoretical basis for reducing carbon emissions from roads by helping road designers make decisions about road alternatives in terms of the road environment.

1km 해상도 태양-기상자원지도 기반의 초고해상도 태양 에너지 분석 (Analysis of Very High Resolution Solar Energy Based on Solar-Meteorological Resources Map with 1km Spatial Resolution)

  • The solar energy are an infinite source of energy and a clean energy without secondary pollution. The global solar energy reaching the earth's surface can be calculated easily according to the change of latitude, altitude, and sloped surface depending on the amount of the actual state of the atmosphere and clouds. The high-resolution solar-meteorological resource map with 1km resolution was developed in 2011 based on GWNU (Gangneung-Wonju National University) solar radiation model with complex terrain. The very high resolution solar energy map can be calculated and analyzed in Seoul and Eunpyung with topological effect using by 1km solar-meteorological resources map, respectively. Seoul DEM (Digital Elevation Model) have 10m resolution from NGII (National Geographic Information Institute) and Eunpyeong new town DSM (Digital Surface Model) have 1m spatial resolution from lidar observations. The solar energy have small differences according to the local mountainous terrain and residential area. The maximum bias have up to 20% and 16% in Seoul and Eunpyung new town, respectively. Small differences are that limited area with resolutions. As a result, the solar energy can calculate precisely using solar radiation model with topological effect by digital elevation data and its results can be used as the basis data for the photovoltaic and solar thermal generation.

도시기상모델 CFD_NIMR의 GP-GPU 실행을 위한 병렬 프로그램의 구현 (GP-GPU based Parallelization for Urban Terrain Atmospheric Model CFD_NIMR)

  • 본 논문은 도시기상모델인 전산유체역학모델(CFD_NIMR)을 GP-GPU에서 실행시키기 위해 CUDA Fortran 병렬프로그램을 구현하였다. GP-GPU는 원래 PCI 카드 형태의 그래픽 처리 장치이지만 저비용, 저전력으로 대량의 계산을 초고속으로 수행할 수 있는 일반 계산 가속기이다. 모델을 단일 Intel XEON 2.0 GHz CPU에서 실행한 결과와 Nvidia Tesla C1060 GPU에서 실행한 성능을 비교하였을 때 GP-GPU에서 15배 정도의 빠른 속도를 보였다. 또한 다중 CPU를 사용한 MPI 병렬프로그램과 비교한 경우에도 GP-GPU에서 보다 더 효율적인 성능을 보였다. 본 논문에서 제시한 프로그램 방식은 유사한 구조를 가진 수치모델을 GP-GPU 병렬 프로그램으로 구현하는데 쉽게 적용할 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.

특수일사계를 이용한 맑은 날 일사량의 온도 보정 (Temperature Correction of Solar Radiation on Clear Sky Using by Modified Pyranometer)

  • Pyranometer have many uncertainty factors (sensitivity function, thermal offset, other spectral effect, geometric, environment, and equipment etc.) than pyrheliometer. The solution for most of the uncertainty factors have been researched, but the problem for thermal offset is being continued research so far. Under the clear sky, due to the thermal offset of pyranometer, the diffuse and global radiation have been negative value for the nighttime and lower value for the daytime, respectively. In order to understand the uncertainty of the thermal offset effect, solar radiation are observed and analyzed using Ji and Tsay method and data from modified pyranometer. As a result of performing temperature correction using the modified pyranometer, the slope (dome factor; k) and intercept ($r_0$) from a linear regression method are 0.064 and $3.457g{\cdot}m^{-2}{\cdot}k^{-1}$, respectively. And the solar radiation is decreased significantly due to the effect of thermal offset during nighttime. The solar radiation from modified pyranometer increased approximately 8% higher than its observed by general pyranometer during daytime. By the way, these results did not generalize because its result is for only single case in clear sky. Accordingly, it is to required for accurate results obtained by the various cases (clear, cloudy and rainy) with longterm observations.

수도권지역의 지상기반 원격탐사자료를 이용한 지표면 태양에너지 산출 (Estimation of Surface Solar Radiation using Ground-based Remote Sensing Data on the Seoul Metropolitan Area)

  • 2015년부터 최근까지 차세대도시농림융합기상사업단에서는 수도권에 위치한 도시기상 관측소에서 관측된 기상자료(14소), 운고계(2소) 그리고 마이크로웨이브 라디오미터(MWR, 7소) 자료를 이용하여 태양에너지를 산출하였다. 수도권지역에 위치한 운고계에서 관측된 후방산란계수와 MWR에서 추정된 액상물량을 이용하여 구름광학두께와 운량을 산출하였다. 각각의 원격탐사장비에서 산출된 운량을 태양복사모델에 입력하여 지표면에 도달하는 태양에너지를 계산하였다. 추정된 태양에너지를 관측과 비교한 결과, 중랑과 광화문지점에서는 과소추정이 나타났다. 선형회귀분석한 결과 0.8이하의 기울기를 나타냈고 $-20W/m^2$의 음의 편차와 $120W/m^2$의 평방근오차(RMSE)가 나타났다. 그리고 MWR을 이용하여 추정된 태양에너지의 정확도(평균 결정계수$(R^2)=0.8$)와 오차율(평균 $RMSE=110W/m^2$)이 향상되었다. 월별 산출된 운량과 태양에너지는 운고계를 이용하여 산출하였을 때 운량이 0.09 이상 크게 나타났으며 태양에너지가 $50W/m^2$ 이상 낮게 산출되었다. 지점에 따라 차이는 있었으나 대체로 7월과 9월의 RMSE가 $50W/m^2$ 이상 크게 계산되었다. 결과적으로 일누적 태양에너지는 광화문지점에서 가장 높은 상관성이 나타났고($R^2=0.80$, RMSE=2.87 MJ/Day), 구로지점에서 상관성이 가장 낮았다($R^2=0.63$, RMSE=4.77 MJ/Day).

하계 항만열환경정보 제공을 위한 열환경 평가 및 예보시스템 구축 (Heat Stress Assessment and the Establishment of a Forecast System to Provide Thermophysiological Indices for Harbor Workers in Summer)

  • Objectives: Outdoor workers are exposed to thermally stressful work environments. In this study, heat stress indices for harbor workers in summer were calculated to evaluate thermal comfort based on a human heat balance model. These indices are Physiological Subjective Temperature (PST), Dehydration Risk (DhR), and Overheating Risk (OhR) according to respective stage of cargo work in a harbor. In addition, we constructed a forecast system to provide heat stress information. Methods: Thermophysiological indices in this study were calculated using the MENEX model (i.e. the human heat balance model), which used as inputs the meteorological parameters, clothing insulation, and metabolic rate for each stage of cargo work in the harbor of Masan over the course of seven days, including a four-day heat wave. The forecast heat stress information constructed for Masan harbor was based on meteorological data supported by the Dong-Nae Forecast from the KMA (Korea Metrological Administration) and other input parameters. Results: According to higher metabolic rate, thermophysiological indices showed a critical level. In particular, PST was evaluated as reaching the 'Very hot' or 'Hot' level during all seven days, despite the heat occurring over only four. It is important in a regard to consider the work environment conditions (i.e. labor intensity and clothing in harbor). On a webpage, the forecast thermophysiological indices show as infographics to be easily understand. This webpage is comprised of indices for both current conditions and the forecast, with brief guidance. Conclusion: Thermophysiological indices show the risk level to health during a heat wave period. Heat stress information could help to protect the health of harbor workers. Further, this study could extend the applicability of these indices to a variety of outdoor workers in consideration of work environments.

거칠기길이를 이용한 바람통로 네트워크 구축 (Building Wind Corridor Network Using Roughness Length)

  • 본 연구는 바람통로의 세밀도와 편이성을 향상시켜 도시 녹지계획 활용도를 높이는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 유체역학적 거칠기 특성을 나타내는 거칠기길이($z_0$)로부터 바람통로 네트워크 추출기법을 제안하였다. 지적필지 단위로 산출된 $z_0$에 IDW, Spline, Kriging 내삽기법을 적용해 표면이 연속적인 수치거칠기길이모델(DZoM)을 생성한 후 수계망 추출 기법을 적용해 바람통로 네트워크를 산출하였다. 내삽기법 적용 결과들을 비교하여 가장 적합한 내삽 기법을 정하고 산출된 바람통로와 토지피복 및 지표온도의 공간적 관계를 분석하였다. 연구결과 DZoM 산출기법 중 Kriging 기법의 적용성이 IDW 및 Spline 기법보다 우수한 것으로 나타났다. Kriging 기법을 이용하여 선형 추출한 바람통로 네트워크(Type B)와 Landsat-7 ETM+에서 산출한 여름철과 겨울철 야간 지표온도 분포를 비교한 결과는 공간적 일치도가 높았다. 주목할 부분으로 산출된 바람통로의 흐름이 도시의 야간 열 부하들을 완화하는 것으로 보인다. 추출된 바람통로 네트워크 사상들(features)에 대한 엄밀한 평가와 개선이 수행된다면 녹지계획 실무에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있을 것이다. 이를 위해서는 (1) 거칠기길이 개선, (2) 녹지계획 목적에 맞는 바람통로의 해석 및 편집, (3) 분절된 바람통로 네트워크 연결, (4) 관련 자료의 상세한 구축 및 무결성 확보 등이 선행되어야 할 것이다. 제안된 바람통로 네트워크의 녹지계획 적용을 위해 향후 연구범위를 수도권으로 확장할 계획이다.

도시림의 여름철 평균복사온도 저감 추정 연구 (A Study of the Urban Tree Canopy Mean Radiant Temperature Mitigation Estimation)

  • 이 연구는 제안한 평균복사온도의 차감비교기법을 통해 도시림이 여름철 옥외 환경에 미치는 온열완화를 정량적으로 추정하고 평가는 것을 목적으로 한다. 항공 라이다 측량시스템 기반 3차원 점군자료로부터 도시림이 있는 모의 대상지와 도시림이 없는 모의 대상지 두 사례를 구축하여 SOLWEIG 기반에서 평균복사온도를 산출하고 두 값들을 비교 및 분석하였다. 연구를 통해 도시림 캐노피가 연구지역 전체 일평균 $T_{mrt}$를 약 $5^{\circ}C$ 정도 저감하며 태양의 위치와 지면 조건에 따라 시간평균 $T_{mrt}$$33^{\circ}C$까지 저감될 수 있음을 확인하였다. 결과들은 도시미기후 지표(풍속, 습도, 대기 온도 등) 및 생명기상(인지온도 등) 연구들을 향상시키고 더불어 삼림 기반 공공 녹색정책 개발에 활용될 수 있을 것이다.
