Tool wear monitoring is very important aspect in metal cutting because tool wear effects quarity and precision of workpiece, tool life etc. In this study we detected force signal through tool dynamometer in turning and using it we conducted 6th AR modeling and fractal analysis. Finally the back-propagation model of the neural network is utilized to monitor tool wear and features are extracted through AR model and fractal analysis.

Cutting force characteristics is closely related with tool wear on the end milling. And it is found that the tool wear can be properly obtained by observation through the tool-maker's microscope when STS 304 is cut using an end mill. The relationship between the tool wear and the cutting force is established based on data obtained from a series of experiments. A cutting force model can be derived from basic cutting force model using parasitic force components of this tool wear. The results of th simulation using the cutting force model proposed in this paper were verified experimentally and a good agreement was partly obtained. The proposed model is capable of predicting increased cutting force due to tool wear.
It is important to prevent roll failure in hot rolling process for reducing maintenance cost and production loss. The relationship between rolling pass schedule and the work roll wear profile will be presented. The roll wear pattern is related with roll catastrophic failure. The irregular and deep roll wear pattern should be removed by On-line Roll Grinder(ORG) for roll failure prevention. In this study, a computer roll wear prediction model under real process working condition is developed and evaluated with hot rolling pass schedule. The method of building wear calculation functions for center portion abrasion and marginal abrasion respectively was used to develop a work roll wear prediction mathematical model. The three type rolling schedule are evaluated by wear prediction model. The optimum roll grinding methods is suggested for schedule tree rolling technique.

An integrated adhesive wear model was proposed to determine the transient wear and steady-state wear of aluminium alloy matrix composites. The transient wear volume was described by an exponential equation, while the steady-state wear was governed by a revised Archard equation, in which both the transient wear volume and transient sliding distance were excluded. A mathematical method was developed to determine both the transient distance and the net steady-state wear coefficient. Experimental wear tests were carried out on three types of commercial A6061 aluminum alloy matrix composites reinforced with 10%, 15% and 20% alumina particles. More accurate wear coefficient values were obtained with the proposed model. The average standard wear coefficient, as determined by the original Archard equation, was found to be about 51% higher.
The service life of tools in metal forming process is to a large extent limited by wear, fatigue fracture and plastic deformation. In elevated temperature forming processes wear is the predominant factor for tool operating life. To predict tool life by wear Achard's model is generally applied. Usually hardness of die is considered to be a function of temperature. But hardness of die is a function of not only tem-perature but also operating time of die. To consider softening of die by repeated operation it is necessary to express hardness of die by a function of a function of temperature and time. By experiment of reheating of die softening curve was obtained and applied to suggest modified Archard's Model in which hardness is a function of main tempering curve.
The credibility of CHECWORKS FAC model analysis was evaluated for plant application in a model plant chosen for demonstration. The operation condition at each pipe component was defined before the wear rate analysis by plant data base, water chemistry analysis, and network flow analysis. The predicted wear was compared with the measured wear for 57 sample components selected from 43 susceptible line groups analysed. The inspected 57 locations represent components of highest predicted wear in each line group. Both absolute value and relative ranking comparisons indicated reasonable correlations between the predicted and the measured values. Four components showed much higher measured wear rates than the predicted ones in the feed water train from main feed water pump discharge to steam generator, probably due to high hydrazine concentration operation the effect of which had not been incorporated into the CHECWORKS model. The measured wear was higher than the predicted one consistently for components with least susceptibility to FAC. It is believed that the conservatism maintained during UT data analysis dominated the measurement accuracy. A great deal of enhancement is anticipated over the current plant pipe management program when a comprehensive plant pipe management program is implemented based on the model analysis.
Thin film coatings are commonly exploited to minimize wear and optimize the frictional behavior of various precision mechanical systems. The enhancement of thin film durability is directly related to the performance maximization of the system. Therefore, a fine approach to analyze the thin film wear behavior is required. Archard's equation is a representative and well-developed law that defines the wear coefficient, which is the probability of creating wear particles. A ploughing model is a commonly used model to determine the friction force during the abrasive contact. The equations demonstrate that the friction force and wear coefficient are inversely proportional to the hardness of the material. In this study, Archard's equation and ploughing models are modified with an effective hardness to minimize the gap between the experimental and numerical results. It is noted that the effective hardness is the hardness variation with respect to the penetration depth owing to the substrate effect. The nanoindentation method is utilized to characterize the effective hardness of Cu film. The wear coefficient value considering the effective hardness is more than three times higher than that without considering the effective hardness. The friction force predicted with the effective hardness agreed better with the results obtained directly from the friction force detecting sensor. This outcome is expected to improve the accuracy of friction and wear amount predictions.
During rolling, rolling mill rolls endure wear when shaping metal billets into a desired form, such as bars, plates, and shapes. Such wear affects the lifespan of the rolls and product quality. Therefore, in addition to rigidity, wear performance is a key factor influencing the performance of rolling mill rolls. Conventional methods such as casting and forging have been used to manufacture rolling mill rolls. However, powder alloying methods are increasingly being adopted to enhance wear resistance. These powder manufacturing methods include atomization, canning to shape the powder, hot isostatic pressing to combine the powder alloy with conventional metals, and various wear performance tests on rolls prepared with powder alloys. In this study, numerical simulations and experimental tests were used to develop and elucidate the wear analysis mechanism of rolling mill rolls. The wear characteristics of the rolls under various rolling conditions were analyzed. In addition, experimental tests (wear and surface analysis tests) and wear theory (Archard wear model) were used to evaluate wear. These tests were performed on two different materials in various powder states to evaluate the different aspects of wear resistance. In particular, this study identifies the factors influencing the wear behavior of rolling mill rolls and proposes an analytical approach based on the actual production of products. The developed wear analysis mechanism can serve the future development of rolls with high wear resistance using new materials. Moreover, it can be applied in the mechanical and wear performance testing of new products.
This paper describes the characteristics of wheel wear of high speed train running on the conventional line. Conventional line has many curved tracks that cause severe wheel flange wear. The influences of lubrication, cant deficiency, curve radius on wheel wear are also described considering the operation performance of the highspeed trainset. A method of calculation using contact patch work model is presented for determination of the evolution by wear of railway wheels.

The phenomenon of fretting wear due to the flow-induced vibration in steam generator (SG) tube is a significant degradation mechanism in nuclear power plants. Fretting wear in SG tube is primarily attributed to the friction and impact forces between the SG tube and the tube support structures, experienced during nuclear power plants operation. While the Archard model has generally been used for the prediction of fretting wear in SG tube, it is limited by its linear nature. In this study, we introduced an "Impact Shear Work-rate" (ISW) model, which takes into account the combined effects of impact and sliding. The ISW model was evaluated using existing experimental data on fretting wear in SG tube and was compared against the Archard model. The prediction results using the ISW model were more accurate than those using the Archard model, particularly for impact forces.
