The effect of the particle size and silica structure on the wear behavior of Silica/Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR) compounds was investigated using a blade-type abrader and the findings were compared with those obtained with an Akron abrader. The compensated characteristic parameter (Ψc), which was the contributory factor of the combined effect of the particle size and filler structure, was introduced. This parameter was found to exhibit a linear relationship with the Young's modulus. The Young's modulus correlated more with Ψc than the uncompensated characteristic parameter (Ψ) modeled for carbon black. The wear rate and volume loss measured using a blade-type abrader and Akron abrader were respectively observed to be inversely proportional to Ψc, that is, the wear resistance of Silica/SBR compound improved as the particle size became smaller and the silica structure became intricate. The coefficient of determination (R2) obtained from the linear relationship between Ψc and wear rate was higher than those between Ψc and volume loss for the Silica/SBR compound. Thus, the blade-type abrader exhibited high potential to be used for accurately evaluating the effect of particle size and structural properties of silica on the wear behavior of SBR compounds.
In this study, the change in diffusion coefficient and wear characteristic with depth in the carbonitriding layer of SCM415 steel was discussed. To determine the diffusion coefficient, depth profile of carbon was measured from the surface using the Glow Discharge Spectrometer. In otherwise, measurements of carbide fraction, micro vickers hardness of surface and observation of microstructure have been implemented through the SEM image. $Fe_3$(C,N) layer and effective depth were increased as the time for carbonitriding takes longer. According to wear experiment, the results showed that wear resistance was improved by $Fe_3$(C,N) layer and effective depth.
Wear debris morphology is closely related to the wear mode and mechanism occured. Image recognition of wear debris is, therefore, a powerful tool in wear monitoring. But it has usually required expert's experience and the results could be too subjective. Development of automatic tools for wear debris recognition is needed to solve this problem. In this work, an algorithm for automatic wear debris recognition was suggested and implemented by PC base software. The presented method defined a characteristic 3-dimensional feature space where typical types of wear debris were separately located by the knowledge-based system and compared the similarity of object wear debris concerned. The 3-dimensional feature space was obtained from multiple feature vectors by using a multi-dimensional scaling technique. The results showed that the presented automatic wear debris recognition was satisfactory in many cases application.

Door guide rail is the core part which guides window when it moves up and down. But when the method of grease lubrication in the core has been used for a long times, its lubrication performance has been weakened. Therefore the method of the solid lubrication such as teflon(PTFE) coating in the rail has been studied to be increased the performance in these days. In this study the friction wear characteristic the surface with teflon coating of door guide rail for automobile has been researched. In 1, 20 Hz frequency friction wear tests the friction coefficient are below 0.188 and 0.213. In indicate test the wear depth is very slight. Therefore the durability to the friction wear in the surface with teflon coating of door guide rail is good. In addition to, the result of this study can make efficient use to a basic study to develop method of test evaluation to door guide rail surface grade. Especially this study will contribute to improve the quality of automobile parts.
To study deleterious effects of contaminants contained in lubricating systems, the effects of fine alumina particle concentration and size on the critical failure load, friction and wear characteristic were examined on boundary lubrication condition using the four ball machine. The following conclusions are deduced: The abrasive is found to cause a transition from mild wear to severe wear at less severe conditions than with clean oil. In mild wear region the friction and wear increase with particle size and concentration, but in severe wear region do not exhibit any definite trend. In relation to film thinckness there is a threshold of particle size beyond which the failure load no longer decreases with particle size.
Maraging steel has excellent mechanical properties resulting from the formation of precipitates within the matrix through aging treatment. Maraging steel fabricated by the laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) process is suitable for applications including precise components and optimized design. The anisotropic characteristic, which depends on the stacking direction, affects the mechanical properties. This study aimed to analyze the influence of anisotropy on the wear behavior of maraging steel after aging treatment. The features of additive manufacturing tended to disappear after heat treatment. However, some residual cellular and dendrite structures were observed. In the wear tests, a high wear rate was observed on the building direction plane for all counter materials. This is believed to be because the oxides formed on the wear track positively affected the wear characteristics; meanwhile, the bead shape in the stacking direction surface was vulnerable to wear, leading to significant wear.
In this paper, we investigated the wear rate, braking temperature and stopping distance of the composite brake shoe for diesel locomotive in the field test. The wear rate and braking temperature of the composite brake shoe would rather than cast iron. Also, the stopping distance of composite brake shoe is 450m at 100km/h. This result of field test shown that the density distribution of the composite brake shoe influence on wear rate.
To evaluate the effect of spring shape on the fretting wear of nuclear fuel rod, sliding wear tests were performed using three kinds of space grid springs in room temperature air and water. With increasing slip amplitude, wear volume of each spring gradually increased. It is apparently shown that spring with convex shape had a relatively high wear resistance compared with concave shape springs. It is suggested that the ratio of the wear volume to the worn area can be suggested as an efficient and valid parameter to evaluate the wear resistibility of a fuel grid spring.
