Clearance and preload effects on NRRO of miniaturc ball bearings with waviness

  • This paper presents theoretical analysis of the NRRO(the non-repeatable run-out) for a ball bearing with geometric imperfection. This imperfection contains ball size error, ball waviness, outer race waviness and inner race waviness. The 3D dynamic analysis of a ball bearing using the Newton-Raphson method is performed to calculate the displacement of shaft center. The radial and axial NRRO are simulated, and preload and clearance effects are investigated. Preload and clearance have significant effects on radial and axial NRRO of for miniature ball bearings.

굽힘 하중 하에서 굴곡진 보강섬유를 가진 두꺼운 복합재료 보의 응력 분포 해석 (Stress and Strain Analyses of Thick Composites with Fiber Waviness under Flexural Loading)

  • A FEA(finite element analysis model) was proposed to study stress and strain distributions in thick composites with fiber waviness and initial curvature under flexural loading. Three types of model with initial curvature were considered in this study: flat, concave and concave models. In the analysis, both material and geometrical nonlinearities were incorporated. Four point flexural tests were conducted on the flat specimens to obtain the flexural behavior of thick composites experimentally. It was concluded that the predictions from the models were in good agreement with the experimental results. It was shown that the stress and strain distributions as well as nonlinear flexural behaviors of thick composites were significantly affected by the fiber waviness and initial curvature.

  • This paper proposes CDC (Continuous Damping Control) algorithm and verifies in multi-body dynamic vehicle. In order to distinguish a road profile on driving, waviness calculated by the filtered vertical-accelerations of sprung and unsprung masses is introduced. Sky-hook control is used at a low waviness road and constant damping level control is used at a high waviness road, where the hard damping level is determined by waviness, roll rate, acceleration, and deceleration. The damping levels of ride, anti-roll, anti-squat, and anti-dive modules are calculated by tuning parameters which is dependent upon vehicle velocity. Therefore this high tunable algorithm is useful to improve the ride and handling performance under various driving conditions. In the simulations, tire and dampers are modelled by SWIFT (Short Wavelength Intermediate Frequency Tire) model and 1st order delay model, and results are compared with conventional damper's.

  • A FEA model is proposed to study the effects of fiber waviness on tensile/comprssive nonlinear behaviors of thick unidirectional composites. In the analyses both material and geometical nonlinarities are considered. The predicted results from the FEA model are compared with those obtained from the previous analytical model (thin carpet model) Tensile/compressive tests are also conducted on the specimens with various controlled fiber waviness to obtain the nonlinear behaviors of composites experimentally. The predictions from the FEA model show better agreements with the experiments than those from the analytical model.

  • It has been widely known that geometrical or form errors of ball bearings such as ball size error, ball waviness, inner and outer race waviness due to inherent manufacturing imperfection are one of the major sources of uncontrollable non-repeatable run-out (NRRO) vibration in HDD spindle motor. NRRO in HDD is also known to be the primary cause of limiting the storage capacity of HDD. In this paper, We performed vibration analysis for NRRO a ball bearing being used in 3.5" HDD spindle motor. To theoretically estimate NRRO considering the geometrical errors of ball bearing components, a simple three degrees of freedom model was proposed and then vibration analysis for axial and radial NRRO was conducted utilizing the measured geometric imperfection of a bearing with both the waviness magnitude and phase taken into account. Effects of bearing preload and clearance on NRRO was also investigated as an effort to predict their optimum values minimizing bearing NRRO.

일정한 보강섬유 굴곡이 있는 두꺼운 복합재료에서의 초음파 전파에 관한 연구 (Ultrasound Wave Propagation in Thick Composites with Uniform Fiber Waviness)

  • 복합재료는 우수한 재료특성을 가지고 있어 기존의 금속 재료를 대신하여 많은 분야에서 사용되고 있다. 최근 들어서 큰 하중을 받는 구조재로 사용이 확대되면서 많은 수의 복합재료 단일층을 두껍게 적층한 두꺼운 복합재료의 사용이 늘어나고 있다. 복합재료를 두껍게 적층하는 경우 성형과정 중에 보강섬유 굴곡이 발생하기 쉬운데 두꺼운 복합재료 내에 발생한 보강섬유의 굴곡은 강성 및 강도를 감소시켜 구조물의 안정성을 저하시킨다. 따라서 두꺼운 복합재료로 만들어진 구조물에 내재된 보강섬유 굴곡의 유무나 정도를 알아내는 것은 구조물의 안전성 확보를 위해 매우 중요하다. 본 연구에서는 초음파를 이용한 비파괴 평가를 위해 굴곡진 보강섬유를 가진 복합재료 내에서 초음파 전파 특성에 대한 연구를 수행하였다. 여러 가지 일정한 굴곡비의 보강섬유 굴곡을 가지는 두꺼운 복합재료에 대해서, 평면파(plane wave) 이론과 파선 추적(ray tracing) 이론을 이용한 수치 해석 방법으로 초음파 전파에서 보강섬유의 굴곡의 영향을 예측하고, 보강섬유 굴곡 정도에 따른 초음파 전파 특성의 변화를 예측하였다. 이론적 해석을 검증하기 위해서 여러 가지 일정한 보강섬유의 굴곡비를 가지는 복합재료 시편을 제작하여, 초음파 투과법(through-transmission) 시험을 수행하였다. 이를 통해 일정한 보강섬유의 굴곡을 가지는 복합재료 내의 초음파 전파 특성과, 보강섬유의 굴곡 정도에 따른 초음파 전파 특성의 변화를 이론적으로 얻어진 결과와 비교하여 두꺼운 복합재료 내에 존재하는 보강섬유의 굴곡이 초음파 전파에 미치는 영향을 알 수 있었다.

3D Laser Scanner를 이용한 대규모 불연속면의 굴곡도 측정 연구 (A study on Waviness of Large Discontinuity using 3D Laser Scanner)

  • 대규모 불연속면의 굴곡도는 암반의 안정성을 판단하는 중요한 요소 중 하나이다. 그러나, 주로 실시하는 불연속면의 굴곡도 측정시험은 대형암반의 작은 코어를 채취하여 채취한 작은 코어의 굴곡도에 계수를 사용하여 대형 암반의 굴곡도를 환산하고 있다. 이러한 점을 보완하고자 3D Laser Scanner를 사용하여 대규모 불연속면의 굴곡도를 직접 측정하는 방안에 대해 연구를 수행하였다. 본 연구에서는 3D Laser Scanner를 이용하여 실제 X,Y,Z의 좌표를 가지는 3D 모델을 구축하였고, CAD 프로그램을 사용하여 대규모 불연속면의 굴곡도를 산정한 데이터와 현장에서 Disc-Clinometer로 측정한 Data 결과를 비교 분석 하였다. 그 결과 Mean Dip과 Mean I 측정결과 모두 $1^{\circ}$ 이내로서 측정 장비의 기계오차 $1{\sim}2^{\circ}$ 사이에 속 하기 때문에 3D Laser Scanner를 이용한 데이터 취득 및 분석은 기존의 조사법을 보완할 수 있는 효율적이고 신뢰성 있는 조사법이라고 분석되었다.

카울플레이트 적용을 통한 라미네이트 특성 평가 (Evaluation of Laminate Property using Caulplate Application)

  • 본 연구에서는 동일한 구조의 모자형 보강재를 이용하여 일체형 동시접착 구조의 보강패널시편을 제작하였다. 일반적인 동시접착 보강패널 시편과 탄소에폭시 복합재를 이용하여 제작된 카울플레이트(Caul Plate)를 적용한 동시접착 보강패널 시편의 2가지 형태 시편을 제작하였으며 일반 동시접착 보강패널 시편에서는 패널 상에서 보강재가 적용되지 않은 부위가 적용된 부위보다 더 두꺼운 패널 두께를 가지고 그 연결부위에는 0.61 mm 높이 및 3.29 mm 길이의 플라이웨이브 현상이 나타났다. 카울플레이트가 적용된 보강패널 시편에서는 보다 균일한 압력 전달로 인하여 0.22 mm 높이와 1.37 mm 길이의 완화된 웨이브 현상을 보이면서 약 50% 이상 개선된 결과를 얻을 수 있었다.

Effects of CNTs waviness and aspect ratio on vibrational response of FG-sector plate

  • This paper is motivated by the lack of studies in the technical literature concerning to the influence of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) waviness and aspect ratio on the vibrational behavior of functionally graded nanocomposite annular sector plates resting on two-parameter elastic foundations. The carbon nanotube-reinforced (CNTR) plate has smooth variation of CNT fraction based on the power-law distribution in the thickness direction, and the material properties are also estimated by the extended rule of mixture. In this study, the classical theory concerning the mechanical efficiency of a matrix embedding finite length fibers has been modified by introducing the tube-to-tube random contact, which explicitly accounts for the progressive reduction of the tubes' effective aspect ratio as the filler content increases. Parametric studies are carried out to highlight the influence of CNTs volume fraction, waviness and aspect ratio, boundary conditions and elastic foundation on vibrational behavior of FG-CNT thick sectorial plates. The study is carried out based on three-dimensional theory of elasticity and in contrary to two-dimensional theories, such as classical, the first- and the higher-order shear deformation plate theories, this approach does not neglect transverse normal deformations. The annular sector plate is assumed to be simply supported in the radial edges while any arbitrary boundary conditions are applied to the other two circular edges including simply supported, clamped and free. For an overall comprehension on 3-D vibration of annular sector plates, some mode shape contour plots are reported in this research work.

파형 습식클러치의 드래그 토크 저감을 위한 파형내 유로 위치 설정 설계 연구 (A Study on the Flow Path Position Design of Waviness Friction Pad for Drag Torque Reduction in Wet Type DCT)

  • Drag torque reduction in a wet clutch pack is a key aspect of the design process of the dual clutch transmission (DCT) system. In order to reduce the drag torque caused by lubricant shear resistance, recently developed wet clutch pack systems of DCT, as well as automatic transmission and other four-wheel drive (4WD) couplings, frequently utilize wavy wet clutch pads. Therefore, wavy shape of friction pad are made on the groove patterns like waffle pattern for the reduction of drag torque. Additionally, the groove patterns are designed with larger channels at several locations on the friction pad to facilitate faster outflow of lubricant. However, channel performance is a function of the waviness of the friction pad at the location of the particular channel. This is because the discharge sectional area varies according to the waviness amplitude at the location of the particular channel. The higher location of the additional channel on the friction pad results in a larger cross-sectional area, which allows for a larger flow discharge rate. This results in reduction of the drag torque caused by the shear resistance of DCTF, because of marginal volume fraction of fluid (VOF) in the space between the friction pad and separator. This study computes the VOF in the space between the friction pad and separator, the hydrodynamic pressure developed, and the shear resistance of friction torque, by using CFD software (FLUENT). In addition, the study investigates the dependence of these parameters on the location and waviness amplitude of the channel pattern on the friction pad. The paper presents design guidelines on the proper location of high waviness amplitude on wavy friction pads.
