In this paper, wave propagation of double-bonded Cooper-Naghdi micro sandwich cylindrical shells with porous core and carbon nanotube reinforced composite (CNTRC) face sheets are investigated subjected to multi-physical loadings with temperature dependent material properties. The governing equations of motion are derived by Hamilton's principle. Then, the influences of various parameters such as wave number, CNT volume fraction, temperature change, Skempton coefficient, material length scale parameter, porosity coefficient on the phase velocity of double-bonded micro sandwich shell are taken into account. It is seen that by increasing of Skempton coefficient, the phase velocity decreases for higher wave number and the results become approximately the constant. Also, by increasing of the material length scale parameter, the cut of frequency increases, because the stiffness of micro structure increases. The obtained results for this article can be used to detect, locate and quantify crack.
This study was designated to clarify the aspect of the wave propagation around the cavity. The change of traveltime and amplitude of the seismic wave was observed according to the various wave velocities of the cavity. The seismic wave detour or penetrate the cavity depending on the seismic velocity of the in-filled material. Generally, seismic wave detours toward high velocity zone around the cavity, and when the velocity of the cavity material reaches to 80 % of the base rock, the wave penetrates the cavity. The traveltime of the detouring seismic wave is not sensitive to the change of the cavity velocity, but as the velocity of the cavity increases, the fall of the amplitude was reduced. The penetrating wave showed the steeply increasing amplitude due to the reiteration of the detouring wave.
Stress wave propagation through concrete is simulated by finite element analysis. The concrete medium is modeled as a homogeneous material with smeared properties to investigate and establish the suitable finite element analysis method (explicit versus implicit) and analysis parameters (element size, and solution time increment) also suitable for rigorous investigation. In the next step, finite element analysis model of the medium is developed using a digital image processing technique, which distinguishes the mortar and aggregate phases of concrete. The mortar and aggregate phase topologies are, then, directly mapped to the finite element mesh to form a heterogeneous concrete model. The heterogeneous concrete model is then used to simulate wave propagation. The veracity of the model is demonstrated by evaluating the intrinsic parameters of nondestructive ultrasonic pulse velocity testing of concrete. Quantitative relationships between aggregate size and testing frequency for nondestructive testing are presented.
Present study investigated the influence of time step size, turbulent eddy viscosity, and the number of layer on rapid and unsteady propagation of dam break flow. When the time step size had a value such that it resulted in Cr of 0.89, a significant numerical oscillation was observed in the vicinity of the wave front. Higher turbulent viscosity ensured smooth and mild slope of velocity and water stage compared with the flow behavior by no viscosity. The vertical velocity at the lower layer positioned near the bottom showed lower velocity compared with other layers.

Nearfield acoustic holography is known as a powerful tool to study sound radiation from a structure. In this work, the so called backward propagation of sound pressure field is studied to obtain the structure velocity distribution. The results, which were obtained using FFT algorithms, are presented for a finite plate excited at the frequencies above and below coincidence. These results illustrate the effect of stand-off distance and noise. An optimum cutoff frequency in wavenumber domain was suggested to reduce the effects of evanescent wave in the backward propagation. The experimental results were also included for a plate to demonstrate the effectiveness of the suggested cutoff frequency. The optimum cutoff frequency to exclude the unwanted noise in the process of reconstruction of the velocity field gives the good results in both simulations and experiments.

The elastic wave equation is solved using the finite-difference method in 3D space to simulate the seismic wave propagation. It is based on the velocity-stress formulation of the equation of motion on a staggered grid. The nonreflecting boundary conditions are used to attenuate the wave field close to the numerical boundary. To satisfy the stress-free conditions at the free-surface boundary, a new formulation combining the zero-stress formalism with the vacuum one is applied. The effective media parameters are employed to satisfy the traction continuity condition across the media interface. With use of the moment-tensor components, the wide range of source mechanism parameters can be specified. The numerical experiments are carried out in order to test the applicability and accuracy of this scheme and to understand the fundamental features of the wave propagation under the generalized elastic media structure. Computational results show that the scheme is sufficiently accurate for modeling wave propagation in 3D elastic media and generates all the possible phases appropriately in under the given heterogeneous velocity structure. Also the characteristics of the ground motion in an sedimentary basin such as the amplification, trapping, and focusing of the elastic wave energy are well represented. These results demonstrate the use of this simulation method will be helpful for modeling the ground motion of seismological and engineering purpose like earthquake hazard assessment, seismic design, city planning, and etc..
The present paper is devoted to study SH-wave propagation in heterogeneous layer laying over an inhomogeneous isotropic elastic half-space. The dispersion relation for propagation of said waves is derived with Green's function method and Fourier transform. As a special case when the upper layer and lower half-space are homogeneous, our derived equation is in agreement with the general equation of Love wave. Numerically, it is observed that the velocity of SH-wave increases with the increase of inhomogeneity parameter.
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the impact response behaviors of glass/epoxy laminated composite plates subjected to the transversely impact of a steel ball. For this purpose, dynamic finite element analysis based on the higher-order shear defomation plate theory is used to compute the contact forces, rebound velocity of a steel ball, and dynamic strain response histories. And low-velocity and high-velocity impact experiments were conducted to compare the results and compute the wave propagation velocities. The results obtained from impact experiments are in good agreement with those of dynamic finite element analysis. Also the wave propagation velocities obtained from high-velocity impact experiments and wave propagation theory agree well, and wave velocities were higher in the smaller radius of steel ball.
Surface wave techniques are widely used as non-invasive method for geotechnical site characterization. Field surface wave data are collected and analyzed using different processing techniques to generate the dispersion curves, which are further used to extract the shear wave velocity profile by inverse problem solution. Characteristics of a dispersion curve depend on the subsurface layering information of a vertically heterogeneous medium. Sometimes soft layer can be found between two stiff layers in the vertically heterogeneous media, and it can affect the wave propagation dramatically. Now most of the surface wave techniques use the fundamental mode Rayleigh wave propagation during the inversion, but this may not be the actual scenario when a soft layer is present in a vertically layered medium. This paper presents a detailed and comprehensive study using finite element method to examine the effect of soft layers which sometimes get trapped between two high velocity layers. Determination of the presence of a soft layer is quite important for proper mechanical characterization of a soil deposit. Present analysis shows that the thickness and position of the trapped soft layer highly influence the dispersion of Rayleigh waves while the higher modes also contribute in the resulting wave propagation.
The aspect of wave propagation around cavity was investigated for the exact inversion of crosshole tomography data in order to understand the possibility of the existence of underground cavity. We found that the adequate frequency range for the tunnel investigation was about 2kHz to 5kHz, and the grid space was set up to 1/10 length of wavelength. The propagation of the seismic wave near the cavity may go through or detour the cavity according to the seismic velocity of inside of cavity. The detouring wave propagates with the seismic velocity of mother rock in spite of the velocity of inside of cavity. The smaller the velocity difference between the mother rock and cavity, the more frequent penetration of the seismic wave through the cavity was appeared.
