암석의 종류와 방향에 따른 물리적 특성과 상호관계 (Characteristics of Physical Properties of Rocks and Their Mutual Relations)

  • The main objectives of this study are to investigate the anisotropic characteristics of rocks and to evaluate the relationships between physical properties. A series of experiments were performed in three mutually perpendicular directions for three rock types, which are granite, granitic gneiss and limestone. The relationships of measured physical properties were evaluated. The results of ultrasonic wave velocity measurement show that granite of three rock types gives the largest directional difference, and that the wave velocity in a plane parallel to a transversely isotropic one is dominantly faster than that in a subvertical or vertical plane. It implies that ultrasonic wave velocity for rock could be used as a useful tool for estimating the degree of anisotropy. The ratio of uniaxial compressive strength to Brazilian tensile strength ranges approximately from 13 to 16 for granite. from 8 to 9 for granite gneiss, and from 9 to 18 for limestone. The directional differences for granite and granitic gneiss are very small, and on the other hand, is relatively large for limestone. It is suggested that strength of rock makes quite difference depending on the rock types and loading directions, especially for the anisotropic rocks such as transversely isotropic or orthotropic rocks. The ratio of uniaxial compressive strength to point load strength index ranges from 18 to 20 for granite, from 17 to 19 for granitic gneiss, and from 21 to 24 for limestone. These results show that point load strength index makes also a difference depending on rock types and directions. Therefore. it should be noted that the ratio of uniaxial compressive strength to point load strength index could be applied to all rock types. Uniaxial compressive strength shows relatively good relationship with point load strength index, Schmidt hammer rebound value, and tensile strength. In particulat, point load strength index is shown to be the best comparative relationship. It is indicated that point load test is the most useful tool to estimate an uniaxial compressive strength indirectly.

  • Numerical simulations were performed for the evaluation of wave and current loads on a fixed cylindrical substructure model for an ocean wind turbine using the ANSYS-CFX package. The numerical wave tank was actualized by specifying the velocity at the inlet and applying momentum loss as a wave damper at the end of the wave tank. The Volume-Of-Fluid (VOF) scheme was adopted to capture the air-water interface. An accuracy validation of the numerical wave tank with a truncated vertical circular cylinder was accomplished by comparing the CFD results with Morison's formula, experimental results, and potential flow solutions using the higher-order boundary element method (HOBEM). A parametric study was carried out by alternately varying the length and amplitude of the wave. As a meaningful engineering application, in the present study, three kinds of conditions were considered, i.e., cases with current, waves, and a combination of current and progressive waves, passing through a cylindrical substructure model. It was found that the CFD results showed reasonable agreement with the results of the HOBEM and Morison's formula when only progressive waves were considered. However, when a current was included, CFD gave a smaller load than Morison's formula.

Numerical simulation of wave and current interaction with a fixed offshore substructure

  • Offshore substructures have been developed to support structures against complex offshore environments. The load at offshore substructures is dominated by waves, and deformation of waves caused by interactions with the current is an important phenomena. Wave load simulation of fixed offshore substructures in waves with the presence of uniform current was carried out by numerical wave tank technique using the commercial software, FLUENT. The continuity and Navier-Stokes equations were applied as the governing equations for incompressible fluid motion, and numerical wavemaker was employed to reproduce offshore wave environment. Convergence test against grids number was carried out to investigate grid dependency and optimized conditions for numerical wave generation were derived including investigation of the damping effect against length of the damping domain. Numerical simulation of wave and current interactions with fixed offshore substructure was carried out by computational fluid dynamics, and comparison with other experiments and simulations results was conducted.

Effect of Load Condition on Turning Performance of a VLCC in Adverse Weather Conditions

  • The load condition significantly influences ship maneuverability in calm water. In this research, the effect of the load condition on turning performance of a very large crude oil carrier (VLCC) sailing in adverse weather conditions is investigated by an MMG-based maneuvering simulation method. The relative drift direction of the ship in turning to the wave direction is $20^{\circ}-30^{\circ}$ in ballast load condition (NB) and full load condition (DF) with a rudder angle $35^{\circ}$ and almost constant for any wind (wave) directions. The drifting displacement in turning under NB becomes larger than that under DF at the same environmental condition. Advance $A_d$ and tactical diameter $D_t$ become significantly small with an increasing Beaufort scale in head wind and waves when approaching, although $A_d$ and $D_t$ are almost constant in following wind and waves. In beam wind and waves, the tendency depends on the plus and minus of the rudder angle.

  • In this paper, the motion response and wave load of a container ship are treated by a nonlinear motion theory, which is similar to that used by Yamamoto et. al.[1]. This paper deals with the vertical motion response in oblique waves and the effect of the Smith correction in buoyancy force calculation. In the present computation, for S-175 container ship model our result also shows that the ratio of the motion peak to peak value to the wave height decreases as the wave height increases, which was obtained earlier by Yamamoto et.al.[3]. On the other hand the nondimensional midship bending moment increases as the wave height increases. These nonlinear effects are dominant near the resonance frequency, and depend on the hull form and forward speed. However, it is found that these nonlinear effects are significant for tanker model.

  • Recently, the ground motion occurred by vehicles or trains has been recognized one of the major factors of damage of structures nearly the motion source. To isolate the environments from ground motions, it is necessary to understand the wave propagation in half spaces. Especially, Rayleigh wave is the primary concern because it transmits a major portion of the total source energy and decays the energy more slowly with response to distance than the other waves. In this study, the preliminary data(wave length and damping effect) to design the isolating system are obtained. For this, a field dynamic test is performed, using the exciter which can generate the 100kN vertical cyclic load in the range of 1-60 Hz is used. The fifteen accelerometers to measure the ground response are set up in 3 radial direction at intervals of 10 meters in each row. The wave lengths are calculated using the distance and the phase between the measuring points. The damping effects of the Rayleigh-wave are also observed from the experiments.

Seabed Liquefaction with Reduction of Soil Strength due to Cyclic Wave Excitation

  • This study introduces the case of pipelines installed in subsea conditions and buried offshore. Such installations generate pore water pressure under the seabed because of cyclic wave excitation, which is an environmental load, and consistent cyclic wave loading that reduce the soil shear strength of the seabed, possibly leading to liquefaction. Therefore, in view of the liquefaction of the seabed, stability of the subsea pipelines should be examined via calculations using a simple method for buried subsea pipelines and floating structures. Particularly, for studying the possible liquefaction of the seabed in regard to subsea pipelines, high waves of a 10- and 100-year period and the number of occurrences that are affected by the environment within a division cycle of 90 s should be applied. However, when applying significant wave heights (HS), the number of occurrences within a division cycle of 3 h are required to be considered. Furthermore, to research whether dynamic vertical load affect the seabed, mostly a linear wave is used; this is particularly necessary to apply for considering the liquefaction of the seabed in the case of pile structure or subsea pipeline installation.

  • For the geotechnical analysis in the construction and Deign of the coastal structures, one of the most important factors is the existence of waves. The dynamic behavior and deformation of the seabed subjected to wave load must be considered. It is expected that the soil behavior in the seabed subjected to cyclic wave load is much different from that on the ground subjected to dynamic forces such as earthquake. The purposes of this study are as follows ; Firstly, to provide a testing method to generate wave loads in the laboratory and measuring oscillatory pore water pressures in the unsaturated marine silty sand specimen, Secondly, to analyze the mechanism of wave induced pore water pressures and liquefaction potentials under the conditions in the testing. It is shown that the test set-up manufactured especially for the test is good to generate oscillatory wave pressures to the specimen with sine wave type. From the results of this study, it is understood that the pore water pressure due to induced waves is not accumulated as the wave number increases but is periodically varied with wave passage on still water surface. The magnitude of pore water pressures measured tends to be diminished radically with a certain time lag under the action of both high and low waves as depth increases.

파랑하중과 지진하중하의 방파제 구조해석 (Structural Analysis of a Breakwater in Wave and Seismic Loads)

  • 본 논문에서는 파랑하중과 지진하중 하에서의 방파제 설계와 관련한 해석에 대한 하나의 설계지침을 제시하였다. 이를 위해서 파랑하중 중 쇄파대내에서 일어날 수 있는 충격파랑하중을 정량적으로 하나의 모델에 대해 제안된 식에 의해 산출 해 보았다. 널리 사용되는 모리슨 방정식에 의한 파력과 쇄파력으로 야기되는 충격하중을 산술적으로 합하는 방식으로 계산해보았다. 결과적으로 충격하중이 크지 않아, 일반적으로 쇄파파력산정에 있어서 오차범위가 큰 불규칙파의 쇄파대내의 파력공식인 고다식을 사용하는 것은 큰 문제가 없다는 가정을 할 수 있었다. 이에 파랑하중의 경우 항만구조물에 사용되는 고다식을 이용하여 방파제 구조물의 거동을 해석해 보았다. 지진하중의 경우 단주기, 장주기, 인공지진파에 의한 수치해석을 수행하여 방파제의 거동을 해석하였다. 방파제의 설계에 있어서 중요한 것은 설치해역에 적합한 방파제를 선택하는 문제이며 다음으로는 파랑하중과 지진하중의 중요도를 판단하는 것이라 판단된다. 모델을 선정하여 계산해본 결과 파랑하중에 의한 구조물의 거동과 지진하중에 의한 거동이 같은 정도의 구조적인 변화를 나타내는 것으로 판단되어 방파제 설계 시 두 하중을 같은 비중으로 다루어야 할 것으로 판단되어 진다. 방파제 설계의 주요 항목으로 파랑하중과 지진하중이 동시에 중요하다는 점을 제시하였다.

  • 해안구조물의 기능은 파랑과 조류, 침식 등의 자연현상에 복잡하게 거동한다. 이러한 해안구조물의 재료는 파랑과 직접적으로 접하고 있으며 구조물의 안정성에도 직접적으로 영향을 주기 때문에 매우 중요하다. 이러한 이유로 해안구조물은 파랑하중을 받는 동안의 거동과 구조물의 설계기준이 지속적으로 요구되어왔다. 특히 파랑하중과 구조물의 상호작용을 고려한 설계기준 및 연구는 아직도 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 본 연구에서는 파랑하중으로 인한 해안구조물과 재료의 거동특성을 살펴보았으며, 파랑고에 의해 직접적인 영향을 받게 되는 것을 확인하였다.
