Shock pressure of wave breaking on vertical wall is studied experimentally with beaches, which have four different slopes (1/4.02, 1/7.05, 1/10, 1 /13.5). This results is summerized as follows: 1. Maximum impact presures are occured where the wave break directly on the wall rather than breaking in front of the wall. 2. Deep water steepness, and the beach slope are the two Quantities governing the magnitude and location of maximum dimensionless impact pressure from wave breaking directly on the wall, also, the greatest pressure is produced with a beach slope of 1/10. 3. This study is clearly shown that the location of maximum pressure can be presented above still water level under respectively experimental condition. The dimensionless elevation of maximum Pressure is greatest on a beach slope of 1/10.

This research is to analyze the wave propagation characteristics of anisotropic materials subjected to the low-velocity impact. For this purpose, a higher-order finite element program is used to simulate the dynamic behaviors according to the changes of material property, stacking sequence and dimension etc.. Materials for simulation are composed of $[0^{\circ}]_{10s}$, $[45^{\circ}/-45^{\circ}]_{5s}$ and $[90^{\circ}]_{10s}$ stacking sequences. Finally, the results of this simulation are compared with those of wave propagation theory and then the impact responses and wave propagation phenomena are investigated.

To investigate the effect of stress wave propagation for crack tip, impact responses of two-dimensional plates with oblique cracks are investigated by a numerical method. In the numerical analysis, the finite element method is used in space domain discretization and the Newmark constant acceleration algorithm is used in time integration. According to the numerical results from the impact response analysis. it is found that the stress fields are bisected at the crack surface and the parts of stress intensity are moved along the crack face. The crack tip stress fields are yaried rapidly. The magnitude of crack tip stress fields are converted to dynamic stress intensity factor. Dynamic sress intensity factor appears when the stress wave has reached at the crack tip and the aspect of change of dynamic stress intensity factor is shown to be the same as the part of the flow of stress intensity.
In this paper, the underground box structure is discretized as a system with limited freedoms, and the explosion seismic wave is regarded as series of dynamic force acting on the lumped masses. Based on the local deformation theory, the elastic resistances of the soil are simplified as the effects of numbers of elastic chain-poles. Matrix force method is adopted to analyze the deformation of the structure in elastic half space. The structural dynamic equations are established and by solving these equations, the axial force, the moment and the displacement of the structure are all obtained. The influences of size ratio, the incident angle and the rock type on the dynamic response of the underground box structure are all investigated through a case study by using the proposed method.

A finite element program for elastic stress wave propagation is developed in order to investigate the shape of stress field and analysis the magnitude of stress wave intensity at time increment. Accuracy and reliance of the finite element analysis are acquired when the element size is smaller than the product of the stress wave speed and the critical value of increasing time step. In the finite element analysis and theoretical solution, the longitudinal stress wave is propagated to the similar direction of impact load, and the stress wave intensity is expressed in terms of the ratio of propagated area. The direction of shear wave is declined at an angle of 45 degrees compared with longitudinal stress wave and the speed of shear wave is half of the longitudinal stress wave.

This work presents a vulnerability assessment procedure for a complex structure using vibration characteristics. The structural behavior of a three-dimensional framed structure subjected to impact forces was predicted using the spectral element method. The Timoshenko beam function was applied to simulate the impact wave propagations induced by a high-velocity projectile at relatively high frequencies. The interactions at the joints were analyzed for both flexural and longitudinal wave propagations. Simulations of the impact energy transfer through the entire structure were performed using the transient displacement and acceleration responses obtained from the frequency analysis. The kill probabilities of the crucial components for an operating system were calculated as a function of the predicted acceleration amplitudes according to the acceptable vibration levels. Following the proposed vulnerability assessment procedure, the vulnerable positions of a three-dimensional combat vehicle with high possibilities of damage generation of components by impact loading were identified from the estimated vibration responses.

In this paper, when the glass plate of fragile material is subjected to impact load, the fracture pattern and the generation phenomenon of cone crack were theoretically clarified by using the analysis method of impulsive stress in the first paper. The numerical analysis results of strain distribution at a distance of 0.1cm, from the impact loading point to 5cm, were compared with experimental results. The main conclusions obtained are as follows; (1) The generation phenomenon of cone crack at the impact fracture of the glass plate can be analytically confirmed by using the three dimensional dynamic theory of elasticity. And the numerical analysis results of strain distribution using this theory are relatively in close agreement with the crack size obtained from the impact fracture experiment. (2) After the stress wave generated at the impact point propagated to the spherical compressive wave, this stress wave reflected from the back surface and reached again at the surface of the plate to the spherical stress wave. Then the generation of cone crack can be confirmed along the stress wave surface. (3) The plate is the thicker, the more is the generation phenomenon of cone crack at the lower impact velocity range (20m/s-35m/s). Because the fracture generate before the maximum tensile stress acting to the glass plate, cone crack was rarely ever generated.
Dynamic response analysis of offshore triceratops with stiffened buoyant legs under impact and non-impact waves is presented. Triceratops is relatively new-generation complaint platform being explored in the recent past for its suitability in ultra-deep waters. Buoyant legs support the deck through ball joints, which partially isolate the deck by not transferring rotation from legs to the deck. Buoyant legs are interconnected using equally spaced stiffeners, inducing more integral action in dispersing the encountered wave loads. Two typical nonlinear waves under very high sea state are used to simulate impact and non-impact waves. Parameters of JONSWAP spectrum are chosen to produce waves with high vertical and horizontal asymmetries. Impact waves are simulated by steep, front asymmetric waves while non-impact waves are simulated using Stokes nonlinear irregular waves. Based on the numerical analyses presented, it is seen that the platform experiences both steady state (springing) and transient response (ringing) of high amplitudes. Response of the deck shows significant reduction in rotational degrees-of-freedom due to isolation offered by ball joints. Weak-asymmetric waves, resulting in non-impact waves cause steady state response. Beat phenomenon is noticed in almost all degrees-of-freedom but values in sway, roll and yaw are considerably low as angle of incidence is zero degrees. Impact waves cause response in higher frequencies; bursting nature of pitch response is a clear manifestation of the effect of impact waves on buoyant legs. Non-impact waves cause response similar to that of a beating phenomenon in all active degrees-of-freedom, which otherwise would not be present under normal loading. Power spectral density plots show energy content of response for a wide bandwidth of frequencies, indicating an alarming behaviour apart from being highly nonlinear. Heave, being one of the stiff degrees-of-freedom is triggered under non-impact waves, which resulted in tether tension variation under non-impact waves as well. Reduced deck response aids functional requirements of triceratops even under impact and non-impact waves. Stiffened group of buoyant legs enable a monolithic behaviour, enhancing stiffness in vertical plane.

Recently, various types of perforated breakwaters are being constructed for protecting offshore storm waves. In general, perforated breakwaters have wave chambers with perforated walls at seaside. Purposes of the wave chambers are to reduce wave reflections and maximum wave forces acting on the breakwater. Impact wave forces due to wave breaking can attack to the perforated wall directly, so the effects have to be considered in the design of the perforated wall carefully. Using resonance channels for wave energy dissipation, a new concept perforated breakwater is proposed, which is free from impact loads. Numerical simulation was made for wave reflection characteristics of the breakwater with respect to major design parameters. Numerical analysis was carried out using the Galerkin's FE model based on the linear potential theory considering energy dissipation on the perforated plate. Variations of wave reflection was investigated according to perforated ratios of perforated plate.

For safe operation of nuclear power plants, a loose-part monitoring system (LPMS) is used to detect and locate loose-parts within the reactor coolant system, and to estimate their mass and damage potential. There are several methods to estimate mass, such as the center frequency method based on the Hertz's impact theory, a frequency ratio method and so on, but it is known that these methods cannot provide accurate information on impact response for identifying the impact source. Thanks to increasing computing power, finite element analysis (FEA) method recently become an available option to calculate reliably impact response behavior. In this paper, a finite element analysis model to simulate the propagation behavior of the bending wave, generated by a metal ball impact, is validated by performing a series of impact tests and the corresponding finite element analyses for flat plate and shell structures. Also, a FEA-based metal sphere signal map is developed, and then blind tests are performed to verify the map. This study provides an accurate simulation method for predicting the metal impact behavior and for building a metal sphere signal map, which can be used to estimate the mass of loose-parts on site in nuclear power plants.
