Ground penetrating radar (GPR) experiments were performed in a sand tank to study the ability of detection of buried pipes and to characterize the signal of the reflection wave. The ratios of diameter of buried pipes to the depth were set 4 up to 24 % and materials were metal, synthetic resin, and wood. In case of groundwater table below buried materials, strong reflection signals were observed irrespective of diameter and depth except for wood. While it is very difficult to detect the reflection signals in case that the groundwater table is set to higher than buried materials. The reflection signals from the bottom of the sand tank, however, were clearly observed even in case of higher groundwater table. This implies that the weak reflection signals from the buried materials are not all due to the wave attenuation. The vertical reflection profiling method is recommended in case that the object of the survey is to find horizontal position of buried material because this method has the advantage in cost and time of survey. However, the full or partial CMP gather method is recommended in case that the objects of the survey are to get the detailed subsurface information, i.e. the depth to buried material, interval velocity of geological layer, and mapping the groundwater table.

Traffic jam and congestion in urban areas has caused the need to improve the utility of underground space. In response, research on underground structures is increasingly being conducted. Notably, a double-deck tunnel is one of the most widely used of all those underground structures. This double-deck tunnel is separated by the middle slab into the upper and lower roadways. Both vehicle load and earthquake load cause the middle slab to exhibit dynamic behavior. Earthquake-related response characteristics, in particular, are highly complex and difficult to interpret in a theoretical context, and thus experimental research is required. The aim of the present study is to assess the stability of a double-deck tunnel's middle slab of the Collapse Prevention Level and Seismic Category 1 with regard to the presence of vibration-damping Rubber Bearings. In vibration table tests, the ratio of similitude was set to 1/4. Linings and vibrating platforms were fixed during scaled model tests to represent the integrated behavior of the ground and the applied models. In doing so, it was possible to minimize relative behavior. The standard TBM cross-section for the virtual double-deck tunnel was selected as a test subject. The level of ground motion exerted on the bedrock was set to 0.154 g (artificial seismic wave, Collapse Prevention Level and Seismic Category 1). A seismic wave with the maximum acceleration of 0.154 g was applied to the vibration table input (bedrock) to analyze resultant amplification in the models. As a result, the seismic stability of the middle slab was evaluated and analyzed with respect to the presence of vibration-damping rubber bearings. It was confirmed that the presence of vibration-damping rubber bearings improved its earthquake acceleration damping performance by up to 40%.

In this study, We applied the magnetic field that has CW frequency and AM frequency to heating magnetic nano powder. For this experiment, We set up the devices flat-type magnetic field generator with CW frequency and AM frequency. We supplied the current to encircling coil by adjusting the power of generating of magnetic field device for AC voltage through Slidacs and using way of LC resonance circuit and SMPS(Switching Mode Power Supply). Above the encircling coil, We covered the circular flat insulator like glass. And we located the well plate containing the magnetic nano powder liquor above the circular flat insulator and exposed the magnetic field to this well plate. Using the flat-type magnetic field generator with CW and AM frequency and the magnetic field measurement sensor(Magnetic pick up coil or Hall sensor), We measured the strength of the magnetic field of circular flat insulator's surface in each position. The temperature of the magnetic nano powder in the well plate was quantitatively measured by the magnetic field strength through the Fluoroptic thermometer.

This study examined the reduction effect of a hydrodynamic force acting on the vertical wall of a portable water storage tank with a convex bottom floor. For the numerical simulation, the linearized Peregrine's equation was used to analyze the lapping waves in the tank caused by water falling from a supplying nozzle. The hydrodynamic force could be calculated by measuring the maximum run-up wave height at the vertical wall. The initial conditions of the numerical experiments were set up by controlling the positions and heights of the water supplying nozzle. Finally, the hydrodynamic force acting on the vertical wall can be reduced by the convex bottom design of the portable water storage tank so it can be applied to improve the structural stability.
New results about the crustal structure down to a depth of 60 km beneath North Korea were obtained using the seismic tomography method. About 1013 P- and S-wave travel times from local earthquakes recorded by the Korean stations and the vicinity were used in the research. All earthquakes were relocated on the basis of an algorithm proposed in this study. Parameterization of the velocity structure is realized with a set of nodes distributed in the study volume according to the ray density. 120 nodes located at four depth levels were used to obtain the resulting P- and S-wave velocity structures. As a result, it is found that P- and S-wave velocity anomalies of the Rangnim Massif at depth of 8 km are high and low, respectively, whereas those of the Pyongnam Basin are low up to 24 km. It indicates that the Rangnim Massif contains Archean-early Lower Proterozoic Massif foldings with many faults and fractures which may be saturated with underground water and/or hot springs. On the other hand, the Pyongyang-Sariwon in the Pyongnam Basin is an intraplatform depression which was filled with sediments for the motion of the Upper Proterozoic, Silurian and Upper Paleozoic, and Lower Mesozoic origin. In particular, the high P- and S-wave velocity anomalies are observed at depth of 8, 16, and 24 km beneath Mt. Backdu, indicating that they may be the shallow conduits of the solidified magma bodies, while the low P-and S-wave velocity anomalies at depth of 38 km must be related with the magma chamber of low velocity bodies with partial melting. We also found the Moho discontinuities beneath the Origin Basin including Sari won to be about 55 km deep, whereas those of Mt. Backdu is found to be about 38 km. The high ratio of P-wave velocity/S-wave velocity at Moho suggests that there must be a partial melting body near the boundary of the crust and mantle. Consequently we may well consider Mt. Backdu as a dormant volcano which is holding the intermediate magma chamber near the Moho discontinuity. This study also brought interesting and important findings that there exist some materials with very high P- and S-wave velocity annomoalies at depth of about 40 km near Mt. Myohyang area at the edge of the Rangnim Massif shield.

This paper presents design, fabrication and ruggedness test of switching-mode power amplifier using GaN(Gallium Nitride) HEMT(High Electron Mobility Transistor) for S-band radar applications. The power amplifier is designed to Class-F for high efficiency. The input signal for the measurement of the power amplifier is pulse signal at $100{\mu}s$ pulse width and duty cycle of 10 %. The measurement results of the fabricated Class-F power amplifier are a power gain of 10.8 dB, an output power of 40.8 dBm, a power added efficiency(PAE) of 54.2 %, and a drain efficiency of 62.6 %, at the center frequency. We proposed reliability test set-up of a power amplifier for ruggedness test. And we measured output power and efficiency according to VSWR(Voltage Standing Wave Ratio) variation. The designed power amplifier achieved output power of 32.6~41.1 dBm and drain efficiency of 23.4~63 % by changing VSWR, respectively.

Despite recent studies on development of pulse diagnosis systems and needs for commercializing them, the reproducibility is one of the most controversial issues as ever. Because the pulse pressure value, which is one of the important parameters to evaluate reproducibility, is very vulnerable to moving artifacts, the reproducibility can not be obtained easily. In this paper, we suggested a moving artefacts detection system for a pulse diagnosis system so that a pulse diagnosis system can be robust to theses kinds of artefacts by excluding the contaminated parts from the pulse wave signal to be analyzed. This moving artifacts detection system was designed to consist of a three-axis accelerometer, an electromyography amplifier and a two-axis tilt sensor. To assess the suitability of the system, we examined the characteristics of each sensor's output signals with regard to the three specific motions such as extension, flexion and rotation. And, we also examined the each sensor's response to the high-frequency and low-frequency moving artifacts while the pulse wave signal was acquired from a pressure sensor for the pulse diagnosis. From these results, we could find that the response to subject's motions would be reflected in electromyography signal first, in accelerometer signals and in tilt sensor sequently. And, the facts that a stable pulse wave can be acquired in two seconds after high frequency or low frequency motions ended, were also found. Consequently, based on these findings, we set up some rules on the moving artifacts detection and designed an algorithm which is fit for our moving artifacts detection system.

Ubiquitous is an information communication environment which peoples could connect on network without being conscious of the network and computer condition at anytime and anywhere. Presently, advanced technology, digital cities and eco-friendly cities using Ubiquitous technology are being focused through out the world. As recent information industry and communication technology have developed remarkably, studies on intelligent structures and structural maintenance methods by combining a general idea of connecting all objects on network by interpolating computers which is called Ubiquitous Computing, and USN(Ubiquitous Sensor Network) are being attempted. In this paper, a basic experiment on penetration of RF(Radio Frequency) sensor nodes using an experimental sample setting concrete and reinforcing bar as variables is studied to estimate the possibility of applying wireless sensor networks in structures. The spring of reinforcing bars, concrete thickness, intensity of radio frequency were set up as variables, transmitting and receiving distance were checked vertically and horizontally. Moreover, Spectrum Analyzer was used for checking the magnitude of the frequency used in order to measure the reduction of radio wave exactly. The radio wave reduction was numerically analyzed, and the influence of the wavelength was analysed as well. As a result, the penetration depth in concrete without reinforcing bars was 45cm, and in reinforced concretes which reinforcing bars placed at spacing of 5cm and 15cm, the penetration depth were 37cm and 45cm each. No influence on radio wave penetration depth were found when the spacing of reinforcing bars in the reinforced concrete structures becomes over 15cm.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate human thermal comfort in summer by the type of greenery in parks and to explore planning solutions to supply a comfortable thermal environment in parks. The research was conducted in three different land cover types: a park with multi-wide-canopied trees(WOODLAND), park with grass(LAWN) and park with pavement(PAV) as reference sites in Hamyang-Gun SangrimPark. Field measurements of air temperature, relative humidity and wind velocity, short-wave and long-wave radiation from six directions(east, west, north, south, upward and downward) were carried out in the summer of 2014(August 21-23 and 29-30). Mean Radiant Temperature($T_{mrt}$) absorbed by a human-biometeorological reference person was estimated from integral radiation and the calculation of angular factors. The thermal comfort index PET was calculated by Rayman software, UTCI, OUT_SET$^*$ were calculated using the UTCI Calculator and the Thermal Comfort Calculator of Richard DeDear. The results showed that the WOODLAND has the maximum cooling effect during daytime, reduced air temperatures/$T_{mrt}$ by up to $5.9^{\circ}C/35^{\circ}C$ compared to PAV and lowered heat stress values despite increasing relative humidity values and decreasing wind velocity. While the LAWN had very slight cooling effects during daytime, reduced air temperatures/$T_{mrt}$ by up to $0.9^{\circ}C/3^{\circ}C$ compared to PAV, the improvement effects of the thermal comfort index was very slight. However, during nighttime the microclimatic and radiant conditions of WOODLAND, LAWN, and PAV were similar owing to the absence of solar radiation, reduction of wind velocity and an increase in relative humidity. Because the shading and evapotranspiration effects of the WOODLAND were much greater than the evapotranspiration effects of the LAWN, it can be said that the solutions for supplying comfortable thermal environment in parks are to amplify the green volumes rather than green areas. This study was undertaken to evaluate the human thermal comfort in summer of WOODLAND/LAWN parks and to determine the improvement effects of thermal comfort index. These results can contribute to the provision better thermal comfort for park users during park planning.

Recent two moderate earthquakes (2016 $M_w=5.4$ Gyeongju and 2017 $M_w=5.5$ Pohang) in Korea provided the unique chance of developing a set of relations to estimate instrumental seismic intensity in Korea by augmenting the time-history data from MMI seismic intensity regions above V to the insufficient data previously accumulated from the MMI regions limited up to IV. The MMI intensity regions of V and VI was identified by delineating the epicentral distance from the reference intensity statistics in distance derived by using the integrated MMI data obtained by combining the intensity survey results of KMA (Korea Meteorological Administration) and 'DYFI (Did You Feel It)' MMIs of USGS. The time-histories of the seismic stations from the MMI intensity regions above V were then preprocessed by applying the previously developed site-correction filters to be converted to a site-equivalent condition in a manner consistent with the previous study. The average values of the ground-motion parameters for the three ground motion parameters of PGA, PGV and BSPGA (Bracketed Summation of PGA per second for 30 seconds) were calculated for the MMI=V and VI and used to generate the dataset of the average values of the ground-motion parameters for the individual MMIs from I to VI. Based on this dataset, the linear regression analysis resulted in the following relations with proposed valid ranges of MMI. $MMI=2.36{\times}log_{10}(PGA(gal))+1.44$ ($I{\leq}MMI$$MMI=2.44{\times}log_{10}(PGV(kine))+4.86$ ($I{\leq}MMI$$MMI=2.59{\times}log_{10}(BSPGA(gal{\cdot}sec))-1.02$ ($I{\leq}MMI$
