Refrigerant having high global warming potentials will be phased out due to environmental protection issues. R410A has been widely used in geothermal heat pump. However, it has a little high GWP by 2088 value. One of the recommended substitute for R410A refrigerant is R452B which having a GWP by 698 value. In this paper, the heating and cooling performance of the water-to-water geothermal heat pump unit with R452B was experimentally investigated. The performance of the heat pump adopting R452B was also compared with the system applying R410A. The heating and cooling capacity of R452B heat pump system showed a slightly lower values within 2% comparing with R410A system. However, the R452B system's coefficient of performance was enhanced by 5.2% and 13.7% at heating and cooling mode, respectively.
This study was performed to get the optimal operating conditions of an water-air compact heat pump system using R-134a. The experiments was done for three elvels of the air mass flow rate and the compressor driving speed during air-heating process. The temperature of the air at the condenser inlet and outlet was 17~23$^{\circ}C$, 36~44$^{\circ}C$, respectively. The average temperature of the refrigerant at the evaporator and condenser was 1$0^{\circ}C$, 6$0^{\circ}C$, respectively. The temperature of the refrigerant was not depending on the air mass flow rate and the compressor driving speed. The pressure of the refrigerant at the condenser inlet and outlet was ranged of 10~18.5kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and that at the evaporator was ranged of 3.1~3.3kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The pressure drop at the condenser and evaporator was about 1.5, 1.2 kg/$\textrm{cm}^2$, respectively. The performance of coefficient for air heating was about 3.3~4.0.
As heat pump application has been extending to residential, commercial, and industrial fields, the heat pump should have many operation modes. It is required to optimize refrigerant charge amount at all operation modes in order to enhance the annual performance of heat pumps. In this study, the performance analysis of the heat pump which has cooling, heating, cooling-hot water, heating-hot water, and hot water modes was executed with the variation of refrigerant charge amount. As the refrigerant charge amount changed, the maximum COPs of the heat pump at different operation modes were changed within ${\pm}10%$. Therefore, it is highly recommended to select optimum charge amount for the heat pump based on the analysis of annual load for each operation modes.
Flow boiling heat transfer coefficients(HTCs) of R22, R134a, R407C, and R410A were measured experimentally for a horizontal plain and a microfin tube. Experimental apparatus was composed of 3 main parts: a refrigerant loop, a water loop and a water-glycol loop. The test section in th refrigerant loop was made of a copper tube of 9.52 mm outer diameter and 1 m length for both tubes. The refrigerant was heated by passing hot water through an annulus surrounding the test section. Tests were performed at a fixed refrigerant saturation temperature of $5^{\circ}C$ with mass fluxes of 100~300 kg/$m^2$s. Test results showed that at similar mass flux the flow boiling HTCs of R134a were similar to those of R22 for both plain and microfin tube. HTCs of R407C were similar to those of R22 for a plain tube but lower than those of R2 by 25~48% for a microfin tube. And HTCs of R410A were higher than those of R2 by 20~63% for a plain tube and were similar to those of R22 for a microfin tube. In general, HTCs of a microfin tube were 1.8~5.7 times higher than those of a plain tube.
This study deals with the characteristic of quenching refrigerant for heat treatment deformation control of SM45C steel. Heat-treatment deformation must be controlled for the progress of production parts for landing gear. Most of deformation is occurred on inconsistent cooling. The inconsistent cooling is caused by a property of quenching refrigerant. When a heated metal is deposited in the quenching refrigerant, the cooling speed is so slow in early period of cooling because of a steam-curtain. After additional cooling, the steam-curtain is destroyed. In this progress, the cooling speed is very fast. The object of this study is to control the deformation of heat-treatment for landing gear by improving the conditions of quenching. The cooling curves and cooling rates of water, oil and polymer solution are obtained and illustrated. From the characteristics of the quenching refrigerant, the effects of heat-treatments on thermal deformation and fatigue strength are also investigated.
An experimental study on the performance evaluation of a brazed plate heat exchanger with 10USRT of normal cooling capacity has been carried out. In the present study, a brazed plate heat exchanger was tested at a chevron angle $25^{\circ}$with refrigerant R-22. Refrigerant mass flux was ranged from 23 to 58 kg/$m^2$s in condensation, and from 22 to 53 kg/$m^2$s in evaporation. The heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops are increased as the mass flux increases. The water side pressure drop is increased as the cooling water flow rate and chilled water flow rate increase, while mass flux has little effect. It is also shown that the system performance can be improved by enlarging condensation heat transfer area.
Fault detection and diagnosis(FDD) system is beneficial in equipment management by providing the operator with tools which can help find out a failure of the system. An experimental study has been performed on fault detection and diagnosis method for a water chiller. Bayes classifier, which is one of classical pattern classifiers, is adopted in deciding whether fault occurred or not. Failure modes in this study include refrigerant leakage, decrease in mass flow rate of the chilled water and cooling water, and sensor error of the cooling water inlet temperature. It is possible to detect and diagnose faults in this study by adopting FDD algorithm using only four parameters(compressor outlet temperature, chilled water inlet temperature, cooling water outlet temperature and compressor power consumption). Refrigerant leakage failure is detected at 20% of refrigerant leakage. When mass flow rate of the chilled and cooling water decrease more than 8% or 12%, FDD algorithm can detect the faults. The deviation of temperature sensor over $0.6^{\circ}C$ can be detected as fault.
The plate heat exchanger(PHE) in heat pump has two flow streams of the refrigerant and water. The flow direction of the refrigerant, unlike that of water, can be changed by a 4-way valve depending on operating condition. Therefore the flow arrangement is a parallel flow for heating and a counter flow for cooling, respectively. In this study, the effects of the flow direction of the water on the heat transfer rate are investigated experimentally. The experiments are carried out for brazed plate heat exchangers under a parallel and counter flow conditions in evaporation and condensation. The experimental parameters in this study include the mass flux of the refrigerant 410A from 3 to $14\;kg/m^2s$ and the flow patterns for the pressure of PHE fixed at 0.97 and 2.46 MPa. The results show that both the heat transfer rate and frictional pressure drop across the PHE increase with the mass flux. The heat transfer rate of the refrigerant 410A for evaporation show great sensitivity to flow direction of the water. The heat transfer rate for evaporation with a counter flow are 5-30% higher than that with a parallel flow.
This paper is concerned with the development of a new method for making and separating ice in-water and saving floated ice by installing an evaporation panel in an ice storage tank. The new method shows very good heat transfer efficiency than that of the convectional method. It is because the evaporation panel is directly contacted with water in the storage tank. The experiments were performed by varying inlet and outlet refrigerant temperatures of its evaporator. From the experimental results, the operating characteristics of in-water harvest-type ice storage system were investigated by measuring temperature and pressure at each point of the ice storage system and power required to operating compressor respect to the changes of the inlet and outlet refrigerant temperature of evaporator. It can be think that defrost frequency decreased and heavy ice created as the refrigerant temperature of evaporator outlet and defrost setting temperature is low so gotten result can effect to release efficiency. Also, consumption power, condensing heat quantity, refrigerating capacity and performance efficiency decreased as time goes by. Therefore, these results provide the basic data for system optimization, performance improvement and the possibility of application to other fields.
Flow Condensation heat transfer coefficients (HTCs) of Rl2, R22, R32, Rl23, Rl25, R134a, R142b were measured experimentally on a horizontal plain tube. The experi- mental apparatus was composed of three main parts; a refrigerant loop, a water loop and a water-glycol loop. The test section in a refrigerant loop was made of a copper tube of 8.8 mm inner diameter and 1000 mm length respectively. The refrigerant was cooled by passing cold water through an annulus surrounding the test section. All tests were performed at a filed refrigerant saturation temperature of 4$0^{\circ}C$ with mass fluxes of 100, 200, 300 kg/$m^2$s. The experimental result showed that flow condensation HTCs increase as the quality, mass flux, and latent heat of condensation increase. At the same mass flux, the HTCs of R32 and R142b were higher than those of R22 by 35~45% and 7~14% respectively while HTCs of R134a and Rl23 were similar to those of R22. On the other hand, HTCs of Rl25 and Rl2 were lower than those of R22 by 28 ~30% and 15 ~25% respectively Finally, a new correlation for flow condensation HTCs was developed by modifying Dobson and Chato's correlation with the latent heat of condensation considered. The correlaton showed an average deviation of 13.1% for all pure fluids data indicating an excellent agreement.
