  • In this work, the effect of the addition of Aerosil 200, an insulating resin applied in many industries, on the water absorption of cement plast mixture has been experimentally evaluated. First, the preparation stages of cement plast mixture was evaluated based on corresponding standards and then, the effect of the addition of Aerosil 200 nanoparticles (NPs) to cement plast mixtures with sand weight percentage range of 0-0.1% on the variation of water absorption properties was evaluated based on National Standard Institution of Iran 20185 for Concrete Flooring Blocks - Requirements and Test Procedures. Based on the obtained results, it could be found that excessive addition of NPs did not affect the physical properties of the final product. Water absorption percentage was increased in the weight percentage of cement. By the increase of the amount of Aerosil 200 NPs in the prepared cement plast mixture, the percentage of water absorption in weight percentage of sand was decreased. Cement plast with NPs presented significantly lower water absorption than that without NPs.

  • We developed a kind of soy-based sauce for stews using three recipes and sensory evaluation processes, and examined the biological activities such as antioxidative, fibrinolytic and ${\alpha}$-glucosidase inhibitory activities of hot water extract of Cornus officinalis S. et Z in order to use as functional ingredient. The developed stew was composed of soy sauce $1\frac{1}{2}$ Tbsp, sugar $1\frac{1}{4}$ Tbsp, garlic, small green onion, powdered sesame and sesame seed oil $\frac{1}{2}$ tsp, respectively, ginger extract $\frac{1}{4}$ tsp, black pepper $\frac{1}{8}$ and water $\frac{2}{3}$C per 300 g of main ingredients(pork rib, chicken and dried pollack). It was evaluated more highly acceptable than the original recipes by sensory test. Replacement of water in the recipe of the developed stew sauce with hot water extract of Cornus officinalis S. et Z did' nt affect the sensory quality. From the above results. we concluded that hot water extract of Cornus officinalis S. et Z might be a excellent source to provide health functionality.

  • Water regulators in New Zealand have recognised the need to adapt water allocation regimes and water permit conditions to reflect the likelihood of lower catchment yield on the east coast from 2030 due to climate change. Water management mechanisms to protect the environment and maintain the reliability of other water users are currently being applied or assessed in Marlborough province. These include seasonal water quota based on spring aquifer status, linking water use to environmental triggers to avoid seawater intrusion or spring depletion; and redefining water permit entitlements to account for recharge variability.

  • Inquiry has great value in environmental education(EE). Being able to see the world environmentally through 'inquiry-based environmental education' can be an important value and goal of EE. In this study, we intended to develop an EE program of measuring activity of dissolved oxygen(DO), based on the theory of 'inquiry-based EE'. Especially, we recognized the potential that DO meter can be used in 'inquiry-based EE', and we tried to develop a model of inquiry-based EE using DO meter. As a result of this research, we present specific models of inquiry-based EE about how to perform measuring activity of DO and how to use the DO meter in laboratories and streams from the perspective of inquiry of water environment. In the process of program development, we considered organization of the inquiry process, use of concept and knowledge, scientific inquiry and insightful inquiry, integration, sustain-ability, content components of 'Environmental Studies for EE', developmental level and in-forest of students. The developed EE model is a scientific inquiry model, pursuing 'explanation' based on data collection. Through this model, we tried to make students see water environment more deeply. The developed program can be applied to various water environments, like laboratories, streams, ponds, etc. It can be more effective inquiry activity if we perform measuring activities simultaneously with PH, electrical conductivity, and turbidity meters.

  • In the present experimental study, the effect of water-based iron(III) oxide nanofluid on the MFB(Minimum Film Boiling) point during quenching was investigated. As the highly heated test specimen, the cylindrical stainless steel rod was used, and as the test fluids, the water-based iron(III) oxide nanofluids of 0.001 and 0.01 vol% concentrations were prepared with the pure water. To examine the effect of location in the test specimen, the thermocouples were installed at the bottom and middle of wall, and center in the test specimen. Through a series of experiments, the experimental data about the influences of nanofluid concentrations, the number of repeated experiments, and locations in the test specimen on the reaching time to MFB point, MFBT(Minimum Film Boiling Temperature), and MHF(Minimum Heat Flux) were obtained. As a result, with increasing the concentration of nanofluid and the number of repeated experiments, the reaching time to MFB point was reduced, but the MFBT and MHF were increased. In addition, it was found that the effect of water-based iron(III) oxide nanofluid on the MFB point at the bottom of wall in the test specimen was observed to be greater than that at the middle of wall and center. In the present experimental ranges, as compared with the pure water, the water-based iron(III) oxide nanofluid showed that the maximum reduction of reaching time to MFB point was about 53.6%, and the maximum enhancements of MFBT and MHF were about 31.1% and 73.4%, respectively.

  • Due to the climate change the drought had been occurring more frequently in recent two decades as compared to the previous years. The change in the pattern and frequency of the rainfall have a direct effect on the farming sector; therefore, the quantitative estimation of water supply is necessary for efficient agricultural water reservoir management. In past researches, there had been several studies conducted in estimation and evaluation of water supply based on the irrigational water requirement. However, some researches had shown significant differences between the theoretical and observed data based on this requirement. Thus, this study aims to propose an approach in estimating reservoir rate based on empirical method that utilized observed reservoir rate data. The result of these two methods in comparison with the previous one is seen to be more fitted for both R2 and RMSE with the observed reservoir rate. Among these procedures, the method that considers the drought year data shows more fitted outcomes. In addition, this new method was verified using 15-year (2002 to 2006) linear regression equation and then compare the preceeding 3-year (1999 to 2001) data to the theoretical method. The result using linear regression equation is also perceived to be more closely fitted to the observed reservoir rate data than the one based on theoretical irrigation water requirement. The new method developed in this research can therefore be used to provide more suitable supply data, and can contribute to effectively managing the reservoir operation in the country.

  • The affection of activated carbon on the dissolved aluminum ion in drinking water has been observed. In addition, the aluminum ion removal capability of activated, alumina, chitosan, and ion exchange resin have been investigated. Experimental results indicated that the coal based activated carbon released considerable amount of aluminum ion to the water while coconut shell based activated carbon didn't. However the release was not continuous. Activated alumina didn't show any recognizable removal capability for aluminum ion in water. Particulate chitosan has removed aluminum ion although dissolved chitosan has not. However it need to development a regeneration process for chitosan to be an effective mean for aluminum ion removal. Ion exchange resin showed a reliable aluminum ion removal capability. The ion exchange capacity was 2.63 meq/g resin for the aluminum ion in drinking water.

  • A lumped deterministic model(DAWAST model) was developed to predict the daily streamflow. Since the streamflow is dominantly determined by the soil water storage in the watershed, the model takes the soil water accounting procedures which are based on three linear reservoirs representing the surface, unsaturated, and saturated soil layers. The variation of soil water storage in the unsaturated zone is traced from the soil water balance on a daily basis. DAWAST model consists of 5 parameters for water balance and 3 parameters for routing. A optimization technique of unconstrained nonlinear Simplex method was applied for the determination of the optimal parameters for water balance. Model verification was carried out to the 7 hydrologic watersheds with areas of 5.89-7,126km$^2$ and the results were generally satisfactory. The daily streamflow can be arbitrarily simulated with the input data of daily rainfall and pan evaporation by the DAWAST model at the station where the observed streamflow data of short periods are available to calibrate the model parameters.

  • The V-grooved single-mode fiber in which a surface part of the core was removed was investigated as a quasi-distributed water detection sensor. In the normal state, the V-grooved region is filled and covered with a specific RI (Refractive Index)-matched medium, and the sensor experiences minimal optical loss. As water invades the V-grooved region, the material is dissolved and removed, and a considerable optical loss occurs owing to the large RI difference between the fiber core and water. The experimental results showed the feasibility of the device as a sensor element of the quasi-distributed water detection sensor system based on general optical time domain reflectometry (OTDR).
