Recently, the frequency and range of algae occurrence in major rivers and lakes are increasing due to the increase in water temperature due to climate change, the inflow of excessive nutrients, and changes in the river environment. Abnormal algae include green algae and red algae. Green algae is a phenomenon in which blue-green algae such as chlorophyll (Chl-a) in the water grow excessively and the color of the water changes to dark green. In this study, a 3D virtual world of digital twin was built to monitor and control water quality information measured in ecological rivers and lakes in the living environment in real time from a remote location, and a sensor measuring device for water quality information based on the Internet of Things (IOT) sensor. We propose to build a smart water environment service platform that can provide algae warning and water quality forecasting by predicting the causes and spread patterns of water pollution such as algae based on AI machine learning-based collected data analysis.

Freeze and burst water meter in winter causes many social costs, such as meter replacement cost, inability of water use, and secondary damage by freezing water. The government is making efforts to modernize local waterworks, and in particular, is promoting SWM(Smart Water Management) project nationwide. In this study suggests a new freeze risk notification information service based on the temperature by IoT sensor inside the water meter box rather than outside temperature. In addition, in order to overcome the quantitative and regional limitation of IoT temperature sensors installed nationwide, and AI based temperature prediction model was developed that predicts the temperature inside water meter boxes based on data acquired from IoT temperature sensors and other information. Through the prediction model optimization process, a nationwide water meter freezing risk information service was convinced.
For the efficient operation and management of the water resources system, coordinated operation of weirs and reservoirs is required. A simulation based, and an optimization based approaches are available to deal with the operation and management problems. The simulation based approach does not guarantee an optimal solution, and the optimization based approach is not so flexible to consider, complex, nonlinear problems we will face when trying to allocate water to different uses, various demand sectors in a basin. Hence, it is important to develop a model that would compensate for the weak points in both models. We will compare and contrast intrinsic and extrinsic properties of two modeling approaches, addressing issues related to setting system operation and control rules that would lead us to more efficient use of water in the basin. As a result, we propose to use CoWMOM(Coordinated weirs and multi-reservoir operating model), a "simulation based" optimization model for a simple simulation of the past periods, and for the real-time simulation process considering uncertain inflow.

In this paper, we develop an ELM(Extreme Learning Machine) based short-tenn water demand prediction algorithm which solves overfitting problem of MLP(Multi Layer Perceptron) and has quick training time. To show effectiveness of proposed method, we analyzed time series data collected in A water treatment plant at Chung-Nam province during $2007{\sim}2008$ years and used the selected data for the verification of developed algorithm. According to the experimental results, MLP model showed 5.82[%], but the proposed ELM based model showed 5.61[%] with respect to MAPE, respectively. Also, MLP model needed 7.57s training time, but ELM based model was 0.09s. Therefore, the proposed ELM based short-term water demand prediction model can be used to operate the water treatment plant effectively.
Groundwater sampled from 24 tube wells of three districts namely Sherpur, Gaibandha and Naogaon in Bangladesh was appraised for their water quality for irrigation and agro-based industrial usage. All waters under test were slightly alkaline to alkaline (pH = 7.2 to 8.4) in nature and were not problematic for crop production. As total dissolved solid (TDS), all groundwater samples were classified as fresh water (TDS<1,000 mg/L) in quality. Electrical conductivity (EC) and sodium adsorption ratio (SAR) values reflected that waters under test were under medium salinity (C2), high salinity (C3) and also low alkalinity (S1) hazard classes expressed as C2S1 and C3S1. As regards to EC and soluble sodium percentage (SSP), groundwater samples were graded as good and permissible in category based on soil properties and crop growth. All water samples were free from residual sodium carbonate (RSC) and belonged to suitable in category. Water samples were under soft moderately hard, hard and very hard classes. Manganese, bicarbonate and nitrate ions were considered as major pollutants in some water samples and might pose threat in soil ecosystem for long-term irrigation. For most of the agro-based industrial usage, Fe and Cl were considered as troublesome ions. On the basis of TDS and hardness, groundwater samples were not suitable for specific industry. Some water samples were found suitable for specific industry but none of these waters were suitable for all industries. The relationship between water quality parameters and major ions was established. The correlation between major ionic constituents like Ca, Mg, K, Na, $HCO_3$ and Cl differed significantly. Dominant synergistic relationships were observed between EC-TDS, SAR-SSP, EC-Hardness, TDS-Hardness and RSC-Hardness.
Earthquakes are natural disasters that cause serious social disruptions and economic losses. In particular, they have a significant impact on critical lifeline infrastructure such as urban water transmission networks. Therefore, it is important to predict network performance and provide an alternative that minimizes the damage by considering the factors affecting lifeline structures. This paper proposes a probabilistic reliability approach for post-hazard flow analysis of a water transmission network according to earthquake magnitude, pipeline deterioration, and interdependency between pumping plants and 154 kV substations. The model is composed of the following three phases: (1) generation of input ground motion considering spatial correlation, (2) updating the revised nodal demands, and (3) calculation of available nodal demands. Accordingly, a computer code was developed to perform the hydraulic analysis and numerical modelling of water facilities. For numerical simulation, an actual water transmission network was considered and the epicenter was determined from historical earthquake data. To evaluate the network performance, flow-based performance indicators such as system serviceability, nodal serviceability, and mean normal status rate were introduced. The results from the proposed approach quantitatively show that the water network is significantly affected by not only the magnitude of the earthquake but the interdependency and pipeline deterioration.

This study is currently giving priority to developing the ship's ballast water treatment system using ozone (Ozone BWTS). The Ozone BWTS was tested in a full scale land-based mobile barge to evaluate performance according to the IMO G8 Guidelines. Test cycles using the mobile-barge were conducted in seawater and brackish water in the vicinity of the Port of Busan and Nakdong River, Republic of Korea. All tests were conducted according to the requirements of the G8 Guidelines. Test results show that the Ozone BWTS meets the Ballast Water Performance Standard contained in Regulation D-2 of the IMO Ballast Water Management Convention, as well as all of the operational, safety, and environmental testing requirements of the G8 Guidelines, as required for type approval of IMO. The study results show that the Ozone BWTS is capable of meeting the Ballast Water Performance Standard under Regulation D-2 of the International Convention for the Control and Management of Ships’ Ballast Water and Sediments, and also the more stringent standards being proposed under US legislation.

Land application of manure compost is considered one of the widely-used animal waste management practices. Many livestock farms adopt composting for their animal waste disposal and apply the compost to crop fields. While standard rates have been established based on researches with respect to land application of manure compost recently, there have been few discussions on water quality impact of the application. Water quality impact should be taken into account in land applications of manure compost. In this study, management practices were proposed based on the investigation of water quality of leachate from manure compost under rainfall simulation, field studies, and monitoring runoff water quality from farm fields after land application of animal waste. The concentrations of major water quality parameters of the leachate were significantly high, whereas those of runoff from soils after tillage for soil incorporation, were not affected by the application based on a series of experiments. Runoff water from farm fields after land application also showed high concentrations of pollutants. Appropriate management practices should be employed to minimize pollutant loading from manure applied fields. Proposed major management practices include 1) application of recommended amounts, 2) proper tillage for complete soil and manure incorporation, 3) field management to prevent excessive soil erosion, 4) complete diversion of inflow into the field from outside, 5) implementation of vegetative buffer strips near boundaries, and 6) prevention of direct discharge of runoff water front fields Into streams.

Load Duration Curve (LDC) can be used as a method for load management of point and non-point pollution source because the LDC easily assesses the water quality corresponding to hydrological changes in a watershed. Recently, the application of LDC to total pollution load management is a growing interest in Korea. In this regard, A desktop-based LDC assessment system was developed in this study to provide convenience to users in water quality evaluation. The developed system can simply produce the LDC by using streamflow and water quality data involved in its database. Also, The system can quantitatively inform the success or failure of the achievement for a target water quality at monthly scale. Furthermore, seasonal water quality and point/non-point pollution load in a watershed can be estimated by this system. We expect that the developed system will contribute to establish local and national policies regarding water management and total pollution load management because of its advantages such as the pollution tracking investigation and the analysis of water quality and pollution loading amount in an ungauged watershed.
Buildings in Korea have been getting higher recently and been being changed environmentally since the Korean fire standard was released in 1968. It should be established to make a appropriate correspondence of fire fighting against the those environmental changes. Most of all, fire water capacity which is basis of fire fighting service is a very significant factor. In this paper, the Korean fire water capacity and fire water duration were compared with China, Japan and the United states. Furthermore, fire water capacity, fire water duration, flow rate were compared by hazard classification, occupant use, number of floor and area with water based fire suppression system. This study has been surveyed to show what are difference, similarity, advantage and disadvantage on fire water capacity in the Korean standard comparing with neighboring countries like China, Japan as well as the United states. This study could be found what level the Korean fire water capacity is. So it suggests about more developed standard on fire water capacity with the result of analysis and comparison.
