In this paper an experimental study of the influence of hot springs curing upon concrete properties was carried out. The primary variables of the investigation include water-to-binder ratio (W/B), pozzolanic material content and curing condition. Three types of hot springs, in the range $40-90^{\circ}C$, derived from different regions in Taiwan were adopted for laboratory testing of concrete curing. In addition, to compare with the laboratory results, compressive strength and durability of practical concrete were conducted in a tunnel construction site. The experimental results indicate that when concrete comprising pozzolanic materials was cured by a hot spring with high temperature, its compressive strength increased rapidly in the early ages due to high temperature and chloride ions. In the later ages, the trend of strength development decreased obviously and the strength was even lower than that of the standard cured one. The results of durability test show that concrete containing 30-40% Portland cement replacement by pozzolanic materials and with W/B lower than 0.5 was cured in a hot spring environment, then it had sufficient durability to prevent steel corrosion. Similar to the laboratory results, the cast-inplace concrete in a hot spring had a compressive strength growing rapidly at the earlier age and slowly at the later age. The results of electric resistance and permeability tests also show that concrete in a hot spring had higher durability than those cured in air. In addition, there was no neutralization reaction being observed after the 360-day neutralization test. This study demonstrates that the concrete with enough compressive strength and durability is suitable for the cast-in-place structure being used in hot spring areas.

HPFRCC is characterized by a very low water-to-binder ratio which induce extremely large autogenous shrinkage at early age. The restriction of such autogenous shrinkage through the use of forms and reinforcing bars will increase substantially the risk of excessive residual stresses and shrinkage cracking. The exact understanding of the shrinkage behavior and studies on solutions to reduce shrinkage should be imperatively undertaken for further application of HPFRCC to real structures. Therefore, this paper investigated the mechanical properties of HPFRCC with respect to the eventual introduction of expansive admixture(EA) and shrinkage reducing agent (SRA) in the mixture. Autogenous shrinkage test was conducted considering the coefficient of thermal expansion (CTE) measured at early age so as to examine the effects of EA and SRA on the autogenous shrinkage behavior of HPFRCC.

This study examined the effect of chemical attack on the stress-strain relationship of alkali-activated Hwangtoh concrete. Water-to-binder ratio and air content were selected as mixture parameters. The stress-strain relationship of concrete was measured at chemical immersion times of 0, 7, 28, 56, and 91 days from an age of 28 days. Based on the test results, the reduction in compressive strength of alkali-activated hwangtoh concrete owing to chemical attack was formulated. In sddition the present study demonstrated that the stress-strain behavior of concrete under chemical attack is significantly dependent on the air content and chemical immersion time, indicating the rate of decrease of modulus of elasticity was greater than that of compressive strength at the same immersion time. As a result, the stress-strain behavior of concrete under chemical attack was significantly inconsistent with the conventional models specified in the CEB-FIP provision.
The present study investigated hydration of alkali activated slag incorporating sulfate as a form of anhydrite by employing thermodynamic modeling using the Gibbs free energy minimization approach. Various parameters were evaluated in the thermodynamic calculations, such as presence of sulfide, precipitation/dissolution of AFt/AFm phase, and the effect of oxic condition on the predicted reaction. The calculations suggested no significant difference in the void volume and chemical shrinkage, which might influence the performance of the mixtures, in spite of various changes of the parameters. Although the types of hydration products and their amount varied according to the input conditions, their variations were smaller range than that induced by water-to-binder ratio. Moreover, it did not affect the amount of C-(N-)A-S-H which was the most important hydration product.

In this study, tests were performed to analyze the feasibility of using the ground stabilizer from recycled resources such as blast furnace slag powder as filling material of prebored piles. For this, specimens were prepared by applying 70% and 83% of the general water/binder ratio of the filling material of prebored piles. And compression test, model test, and shaking table test were performed to determine the compressive strength, skin friction on the surface between prebored pile and filling material, and seismic performance of ground stabilizer. As a result of the tests, the compressive strength exceeded the relevant domestic standards, and the skin friction was equivalent to that of ordinary portland cement. In addition, the amount of vertical and horizontal displacement caused by earthquakes was found to be much smaller than the domestic standard. Therefore, when considering the test results comprehensively, it is judged that the feasibility of using a ground stabilizer from recycled resources as filling material for prebored pile is sufficient.

The purpose of this study was to propose how to determine the setting time related to the determination of the surface finish working time of the concrete using a Durometer, which is used as a rubber hardness meter. Two different types of Durometer were used to measure the setting time of the concrete. High flowing concrete with 40% of water to binder ratio was fabricated maintaining $600{\pm}100mm$ of slump flow. The test results indicated that the application of the Durometer resulted in a high correlation with the penetration resistance tester in both mortar and concrete. When measuring the setting time of the concrete, with properly used with Durometer, evaluation of the setting time of the concrete can be available. Therefore, it is thought that the measurement of the final set of the durometer C type can be useful to decide the limit time of the finishing operation and the time of the rejuvenation of the curing process by measuring the finishing set at 40 HD in the case of the initial set and 10 HD in the case of D type.

Ultra High Performance Concrete(UHPC) is a construction material that has a low water-binder ratio (W/B), a high-performance chemical admixture(SP), mixing material and steel fiber, and performance superior to that of regular concrete in terms of liquidity and strength. In the study, UHPC was used to prepare construction external panels that can replace existing stone panels. In addition, experiments were conducted to access the effects of differences in chemical admixture input amount, the number of fillers, antifoaming agent and steel fiber. An evaluation, was conducted, such of concrete compressive strength, flexural strength, impact strength, absorption rate, and frost resistance. The results showed compressive strength up to 115.5MPa, flexural strength of 20.3MPa, and an absorption rate of 1%. In this case, impact strength and frost resistance evaluation were satisfied with outward observed.

This study is to provide an prediction model of setting time of super retarding mortar based on equivalent age method under various super retarding agent contents, curing temperature, and water-binder ratio (W/B). An equation for predicting setting time using maturity was proposed. Test results indicated that the setting time can be predicted by determining the curing temperature, W/B, and super retarding agent contents and substituting it into the equation proposed in this study. The coefficient of determination of the equation is 0.9 or more, and the reliability was confirmed through the F-test. Finally, using the equation proposed in this paper, reasonable quality control is possible regarding the setting of super retarding concrete in practice.
In this study, the characteristics such as flowability, bleeding rate, and strength of the CLSM (Controlled Low Strength Material) according to physical properties such as particle size distribution and particulate content of the pond ash were investigated as part of the practical development of technology for CLSM using pond ash. As a result of analyzing the properties of the collected pond ash, it was found that the density and particle size distribution characteristics were different. And that the bleeding ratio did not satisfy the standard in the case of the specimen with a large amount of fly ash and a lot of addition of mixing water. As a result of the compressive strength test, the strength development of 0.5 MPa or more for four hours was found to be satisfactory for the specimens using hemihydrate gypsum with a unit binder amount of 200 or more, and the remaining gypsum showed poor strength development. Although it was determined that landfill coal ash can be used as a CLSM material, it is necessary to identify and apply the physical and chemical characteristics of coal ash buried in the ash treatment plant of each power generation company.
The influence of material composition such as aggregate types, addition of supplementary cementitious materials as well as exposed temperature levels have significant impacts on concrete residual mechanical strength properties when exposed to elevated temperature. This study is based on data obtained from literature for fly ash blended concrete produced with natural and recycled concrete aggregates to efficiently develop prediction models for estimating its residual compressive strength after exposure to high temperatures. To achieve this, an extensive database that contains different mix proportions of fly ash blended concrete was gathered from published articles. The specific design variables considered were percentage replacement level of Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA) in the mix, fly ash content (FA), Water to Binder Ratio (W/B), and exposed Temperature level. Thereafter, a simplified mathematical equation for the prediction of concrete's residual compressive strength using Gene Expression Programming (GEP) was developed. The relative importance of each variable on the model outputs was also determined through global sensitivity analysis. The GEP model performance was validated using different statistical fitness formulas including R2, MSE, RMSE, RAE, and MAE in which high R2 values above 0.9 are obtained in both the training and validation phase. The low measured errors (e.g., mean square error and mean absolute error are in the range of 0.0160 - 0.0327 and 0.0912 - 0.1281 MPa, respectively) in the developed model also indicate high efficiency and accuracy of the model in predicting the residual compressive strength of fly ash blended concrete exposed to elevated temperatures.
