This paper attempts to characterize general tendency in water level fluctuations at paddy fields, that may be important to efficient irrigation water uses Banweol district was chosen to be the study area, and water levels among irrigation practice parameters were measured daily throughout the irrigation periods of 1985-1986. Time series analyses showed that water levels at fields have strong serial correlationships. A rather long term periodicity was also observed from spectral analyses. Correlationships between water levels at adjacent fields ranged 0.4-0.9, indicating wide variations in irrigation practices. The water levels showed little correlationships with meteorological factors like evapotranspiration, nor with irrigation practices like water supply rates. Standard errors of the average water levels were computed for different number of field plots within a block. The results indicated that low level areal coverage of gauging plots may be applied for field monitoring of daily water level fluctuations.

Three types of land use were investigated to describe the effect of land use on both surface and ground water quality. Typical land uses of a grazing pasture, Sudan grass field and paddy in Kangwon province were selected and flumes and monitoring wells were installed. Land managements were carefully monitored, water samples were collected periodically and analyzed with respect to nitrate, TP and TKN at a laboratory of Kangwon Provincial Institute of Health and Environment from August, 1993 to May, 1994. Runoff from the pasture was formed mostly with seeping subsurface flow in the lower areas of the pasture. A few overland flows were observed during heavy storms, and when it occurred, runoff increased sharply. For the Sudan grass field, runoff was formed with overland flow. Nitrate concentration in runoff from both land uses seemed not affected by runoff and ranged from 0.241 to 4.137mg'/1. TP and TKN concentrations from the pasture were affected by overland flow. When overland flow occurred, TP and TKN concentrations abruptly increased to 5.726 and 12.841mg/1, respectively, from less than 1.0mg/l. However, these concentrations from the Sudan grass field were quite stable ranging from 0.191 to 0.674mg/l for TP and 0A70 and 1.650mg/l for TKN. Nitrate concentration was significantly affected by land use(Sudan grass field) and the concentration increase reached about 2mg/l per lOOm ground water flow. Nitrate concentration from a well located in the middle of rice fields also was significantly higher than that measured from a well located relatively undisturbed mountain toe area. TP and TKN concentrations in shallow ground water affected by the depth of the monitoring wells. The deeper the monitoring wells, the less TP and TKN concentrations were measured.

Analysis of influential factors on water consumption in households will help predicting the water demand of end-use in household and give an explanation to cause on the change of trend. In this research, the data are gathered by radio telemetry system which is combined electronic flow-meter and wireless communication system in 140 household in Korea. Using this data, we estimate for each residential type to determine liter per capita day. we used real data to predict bathtub and washbowl water-uses and compared the ordinary least square regression model and autoregressive regression error model. The results of this study can be applied in the planning stages of water and waste water facilities.
Zn-air battery uses oxygen from the air, and hence, air holes in it are kept open for cell operation. Therefore, loss of water by evaporation through the holes is inevitable. When the water is depleted, the battery ceases to operate. There are two water consumption routes in Zn-air batteries, namely, active path (electrolysis) and passive path (evaporation and corrosion). Water loss by the active path (electrolysis) is much faster than that by the passive path during the early stage of the cycles. The mass change by the active path slows after 10 h. In contrast, the passive path is largely constant, becoming the main mass loss path after 10 h. The active path contributes to two-thirds of the electrolyte consumption in 24 h of cell operation in 4.0 M KOH. Although water is an important component for the cell, water vapor does not influence the cell operation unless the water is nearly depleted. However, high oxygen concentration favors the discharge reaction at the cathode.

As an alternative water resources development, wastewater reuse for agricultural and instream uses are expected to be fond of the limelight. In order to find the feasible reuse system scheme for reclaimed water in real field, existing reuse sites were investigated for water quantity, quality, and irrigation scheme. From the results, most of sites supplied reclaimed water with a request of the users(farmers) and reuse techniques for agricultural use were to be needed in the sites which supplied over yearly $1.0{\times}10^6$ ton as agricultural water.

The development of a basin-wide runoff analysis model is to analysis monthly and daily hydrologic runoff components including surface runoff, subsurface runoff, return flow, etc. at key operation station in the targeted basin. h short-term water demand forecasting technology will be developed fatting into account the patterns of municipal, industrial and agricultural water uses. For the development and utilization of runoff analysis model, relevant basin information including historical precipitation and river water stage data, geophysical basin characteristics, and water intake and consumptions needs to be collected and stored into the hydrologic database of Integrated Real-time Water Information System. The well-known SSARR model was selected for the basis of continuous daily runoff model for forecasting short and long-term natural flows.
An experimental study was conducted to analyze performance of a heating system with variation of control logic of the system. The system uses a solar as heat source and composed with heat pump that uses R-22 as working fluid. The difference between the developed system and the commercially available heating system is working fluid. The solar assisted heating system which was widely distributed in the market uses water as a working fluid. It could be freezing in case of the temperature drops down under freezing point. The anti-freezing fluids such as methyl-alcohol or ethylene-glycol are mixed with the water to protect the freezing phenomena. However, the system developed in this study uses a refrigerant as a working fluid. It makes the system to run under zero degree temperature conditions. Another difference of the developed system compare with commercial available one is auxiliary heating method. The developed system has removed an auxiliary electric heater that has been used in conventional solar assisted heating system. Instead of the auxiliary electric heater, an air source heat exchanger which generally used as an evaporator of a heat pump was adapted as a backup heating device of the developed system. As results, an efficiency of the developed system is higher than a solar assisted heat pump with auxiliary electric heater. The merit of the developed system is on the performance increment when the system operates at a lower solar energy climate conditions. In case of the developed system operates at a normal condition, COP of the solar collector driven heat pump is higher than the air source heat exchanger driven heat pump's.
It has been a big problem to estimate rainfall for the studies of mud-debris flows because the estimated rainfall from the nearest AWS (Automatic Weather Station) can tend to be quite inaccurate at individual sites. This study attempts to improve this problem through accurate rainfall depth estimation by applying an artificial neural network with radar rainfall data. For this, three models were made according to utilizing methodologies of rainfall data. The first model uses the nearest rainfall, observing the site from an ungauged site. The second uses only radar rainfall data and the third model integrates the above two models using both radar and observed rainfall at the sites around the ungauged site. This methodology was applied to the metropolitan area in Korea. It appeared as though the third model improved rainfall estimations by the largest margin. Therefore, the proposed methodology can be applied to forecast mud-debris flows in ungageed sites.
The concept of Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion (OTEC) is simple and various types of OTEC have been proposed and tried. However the location of OTEC is limited because OTEC requires $20^{\circ}C$ of temperature difference as a minimum, so most of OTEC plants were constructed and experimented in tropical oceans. To solve this we proposed the modified OTEC which uses condenser discharged thermal energy of existing fossil or nuclear power plants. We call this system CTEC (Condenser Thermal Energy Conversion) as this system directly uses $32^{\circ}C$ partially saturated steam in condenser instead of $20{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ surface sea water as heat source. Increased temperature difference can improve thermal efficiency of Rankine cycle, but CTEC should be located near existing plant condenser and the length of cold water pipe between CTEC and deep cold sea water also increase. So friction loss also increases. Calculated result shows the change of efficiency, pumping power, net power and other parameters of modeled 7.9 MW CTEC at given condition. The calculated efficiency of CTEC is little larger than that of typical OTEC as expected. By proper location and optimization, CTEC could be considered another competitive renewable energy system.
The control of nonpoint source pollution is essentially needed to successfully perform the Total Maximum Daily Load program. Of the various land uses in the nonpoint source, the paved areas such as a parking lot and a bridge are stormwater intensive land uses because of high imperviousness and high pollutant mass emissions. This research was performed to understand the magnitude and nature of the stormwater emissions with the purposes of quantifying stormwater pollutant concentrations and mass emission rates from a parking lot and a bridge. Two monitoring sites in Kongju city were equipped with an automatic rainfall gages and an automatic flow meter for accumulating the data such as rainfall, water quality and runoff flow rates. This paper will summarize the metal concentration changes during the storm duration and metal EMCs to characterize the concentration profiles in a parking lot and a bridge. Also a new concept, dynamic EMC, will be proposed to find the relationship between EMC and first flush effect. It can be used to determine the economical treatment criteria in best management practices.
