  • The Taihu Basin is located in the east coast of China, where the threats of frequent floods have induced construction of massive, complex, hierarchical flood defense systems over the interconnected river networks. Digital modeling of flooding processes and quantitative damage assessment still remain challenging due to such complexity. The current research uses an integrated approach to meet this challenge by combining multiple types of models within a GIS platform. A new algorithm is introduced to simulate the impacts of the flood defense systems, especially the large number of polders, on floods distributions and damages.

  • Forecasting of water quality variation is not an easy process due to the complicated nature of various water quality factors and their interrelationships. The objective of this study is to test the applicability of neural network models to the forecasting of the water quality at Gongju station in Geum River. This is done by forecasting monthly water qualities such as DO, BOD, and TN, and comparing with those obtained by ARIMA model. The neural network models of this study use BP(Back Propagation) algorithm for training. In order to improve the performance of the training, the models are tested in three different styles ; MANN model which uses the Moment-Adaptive learning rate method, LMNN model which uses the Levenberg-Marquardt method, and MNN model which separates the hidden layers for judgement factors from the hidden layers for water quality data. the results show that the forecasted water qualities are reasonably close to the observed data. And the MNN model shows the best results among the three models tested

  • Issues and problems in formulating South Korea's water resources policy are discussed in terms of water quantity and quality. South Korean needs both water conservation and water supply capability for the growing population and economic activities. The government has attempted to build more large-scale dams to store and supply water for residential, farming and industrial uses, but the environmentalists who emphasize conservation and environmental protection oppose the government. The environmentalists are popular among the general public. Water quality has been deteriorating from point- ad non-point sources. urban and farm runoffs are serious pollutants. All want by preserve water quality. There is no dispute on this matter between the government and the environmentalists. Money is hard to come by to preserve water quality. Economic and financial crises and no self-sufficient local governments' revenue structure are pessimistic. Basic survey on water resources, hydrology and hydraulic is badly needed for the future water resources planning.

  • Recently, drinking water quality has significantly improved with the progress of water treatment technologies, however, customer's trust on tap water is still relatively low. Low trust on water quality is mainly due to vague anxiety. Therefore, to improve customer's trust on drinking water quality new strategy such as water safety plan(WSP) which recommended by WHO and IWA should be introduced. WSP can be defined as an approach which uses comprehensive risk assessment and risk management approach that encompasses all steps in water supply from catchment to consumer to ensure the safety of a drinking water supply. In this study, cases on WSP introduction in other countries as well as strategy for the introduction of WSP in Korea were investigated. In addition, recommendations on the improvement of the current water contamination response manual was suggested based on the analysis of the existing manual at a full scale water treatment plant.

  • The objective of this study is analysis of Andong-Dam lake water quality with water quality model. Model parameters of the WASP applied to Lake Andong-Dam were estimated. The methodology is based on grouping water quality constituents and relevant parameters and successively estimating parameters by a trial-and-error procedure. Water qualify system for modeling consisted of BOD, DO, T-N, T-P. The results of water quality modelling using WASP. T-N was maximum affected by K71C(Organic nitrogen mineralization rate) parameter. T-P was maximum affected by K83C(Dissolved organic phosphorus mineralization) parameter, and It did not show a difference almost from the parameter of others and it omitted. BOD was maximum affected by Temperature parameter, it was visible of the reaction due to the KDC(Deoxygenation rate) in afterwords, and it did not show a difference from the parameter of others and it omitted. DO was maximum affect by Temperature parameter, and It did not show a difference almost from the parameter of others and it omitted. The parameter which it presumes from the this study uses a water quality modeling and Actual value and the result with which it compares, error rate the parameter presumption which is appropriate with 1% interior and exterior is investigated, It will reach and it uses and it will be able to apply to the suitable parameter in water quality modelling of the objective area which can be feeded by it becomes.

  • The Non-Point Sources shows different characteristics over a wide area depending on basin situation and rainfall events etc. In addition, Among various land uses in the urban areas, runoff appears high in the paved area, though small in its size, during a heavy rain than in other land use owing to its high impervious rate, and pollutants become severly accumulated owing to continual transportation of vehicles, characteristically showing high concentrations of runoff in the early stage. As a result, several advanced countries including USA give a special emphasis on the paved area as a target for supervision. In view of these aspects, the research is not only required to consider separated sub-basins which are distributed according to land uses, but also needed to develop a suitable monitoring which is reflected rainfall-runoff relation. The on-site monitoring has been performed to collect data in object watershed as well.

  • Perfluorinated chemicals are highly diverse and widely used. More than 160 substances are pre-registered under REACH and approximately 140 substances are in the existing chemicals list of Korea from this chemical group. Chemical structures of PFCs that are globally prohibited and still in uses are identified with OECD's classification of PFCs with an overall review on their uses in consumer products including textile products. Case examples for current domestic situation on use of PFCs as a major component of water-repelling agents in textile products as well as a brief summary of eight major PFC manufacturers' situation are presented from our survey study along the supply chains and the most recent report of EPA stewardship programme, respectively.

  • In this study, the experiment was carried out to investigate and analyze the strength properties and flowability of concrete using meta kaolin. The main experimental variables were water/binder ratio 40.0$\%$, water content 170kg/$m^{3}$ and mineral admixtures such as slag powder, silica fume and meta kaolin. According to the test results, the principle conclusions are summarized as follows. 1) The flowing property of concrete that uses meta kaolin appears to be the same to that of the silica fume concrete, but the slump flow that evaluates the compaction ability of concrete shows the most favorable performance. 2) The air content of the concrete that uses meta kaolin can be effectively controlled for the target performance in compliance with the use of AE agent. 3) When it comes to the strength of concrete that uses meta kaolin, the most favorable development of strength occurs when the replacement rate is 10$\%$, in case of the silica fume, and the slag power. In addition, as the replacement rate increases, so becomes the development of concrete strength favorable.

  • Thailand had issued a national strategic development master plan with issues related to water resources and water security in the entire water management. Water resources are an important factor of living and development of the country's socio-economy to be stable, prosperous and sustainable. Therefore, water management in both multidimensional and multi-sectoral systems is important and will supports socio-economic and environmental development. The direction of national development in accordance with the national strategic framework for 20 years that requires the country to level up security level in terms of water, energy and food. To response to the proposed goals, there is a subplan to increase water productivity of the entire water system for economical development use by evaluating use value and to create more value added from water use to meet international standard level. This study aims to evaluate the water productivity of Thailand in each basin and all sectors such as agricultural sector, service and industrial sectors by using the water use data from water account analysis and GDP data from NESDB during the past 10 years (1996-2015). The comparison of water productivity with other countries will also be conducted and in addition, the measures to improve water productivity in next 20 years will be explored to response to the National Strategic Master Plan goals. Water productivity is defined as output per unit of water depleted. The simplest way to compare water productivity across different enterprises is in monetary terms. World Bank presents water productivity as an indication of the efficiency by which each country uses its water resources. There are two data sets used for water productivity analyses, i.e., the first is water use data at end users and the second is Gross Domestic Product. The water use at end users are estimated by water account method based on the System of Environmental-Economic Accounting for Water (SEEA-Water) concept of United Nations. The water account shows the analyses of the water balance between the use and supply of each water resource in physical terms. The water supply and use linkage in the water account analyses separated into each phases, i.e., water sources, water managers, water service providers, water user at end user under water regulators of all kinds of water use activities such as household, industrial, agricultural, tourism, hydropower, and ecological conservation uses. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP), a well- known measuring method of the national economic growth is not actually a comprehensive approach to describe all aspects of national economic status, since GDP does not take into account the costs of the negative impacts to natural resources that result from the overexploitation of development projects, however, at present, integrating the environment with the economy of a country to measure its economic growth with GDP is acceptable worldwide. The study results will show the water use at each basin, use types at end users, water productivity in each sector from 1996-2015 compared with other countries, Besides the productivity improvement measures will be explored and proposed for the National Strategic Master Plan.
