It has been found that mesoporous structures of MCM-41 and MCM-48 disintegrate readily in distilled water around 370 K, while the structures can be stable in 100%-steam of 1 atmospheric pressure at much higher temperatures around 820 K. Thus, the structure disintegration is thermodynamically more favorable in water than under the steaming condition. X-ray powder diffraction and magic angle spinning 29Si NMR spectroscopy indicate that the disintegration of the mesoporous structures in water occurs due to silicate hydrolysis.
Land surface temperature (LST) is an important factor in human health, thermal environment, heat balance, global change studies, and as control for climate change. The objective of this study was to assess the influence of Urban Heat Island (UHI) Effects on the LST and NDVI in Cheongju, Korea. The aim was to evaluate the effect of urban thermal environment for LST comparison of satellite-derived and in situ measured temperature. In this study, LANDSAT TM and KOMPSAT scene were used. The results indicated that the minimum LST is observed over dense forest as about $21{\sim}25^{\circ}C$ and maximum LST is observed over industrial area of about $28{\sim}32^{\circ}C$. The estimated LST showed that industrial area, bare soils and built-up areas exhibit higher surface temperatures, while forest, water bodies, agricultural croplands, and dense vegetations have lower surface temperatures during the summer daytime. Result corroborates the fact that LST over land use/land cover (LULC) types are greatly influenced by the amount of vegetation and water bodies present. The LST of industrial area and urban center is higher than that of suburban area, so it is clearly proved that there are obvious UHIE in Cheongju.
Annual growth segments of Ascophyllum nodosum (L.) Le Jolis (Fucales, Fucaceae) are denoted by air bladders that form each spring. By examining annual growth segments, it may be possible to infer information about the physical conditions during the growth period; however, it is uncertain whether the annual segments will expand in size after the initial growth. We examined A. nodosum segments from three populations in Nova Scotia, and statistically evaluated whether the annual growth (length, mass, and maximum diameter) of segments was independent of the age of the frond, whether the segments increased in size after the initial growth, and whether the segment lengths were correlated with mean water temperatures and mean air temperatures when the segments were formed. We found that the growth in length of A. nodosum is dependent on the age of the frond, but frond age explained less than 12 % of the overall variation in length. However, the mass and maximum diameter of segments were independent of the age of the frond. Differences occurred between the lengths of segments formed in different years, but there was no significant correlation with regional mean water or air temperatures. This study indicates that the length of A. nodosum segments may be an indicator of the annual physical characteristics of a site, but future studies are needed to identify which factors have the strongest influence on growth patterns.

Objective: The aim of this study is to characterize the impact of additional electrical stimulation (AES) and various pre-rigor holding temperatures (for 3 h) on the ageing-potential of hot boned bovine M. longissimus lumborum (LL). Methods: Paired LL loins from 12 bulls were hot-boned within 40 min of slaughter, immediate AES applied and subjected to various holding temperatures (5℃, 15℃, 25℃, and 35℃) for 3 h. Results: AES did not accelerate the rate of rigor attainment, but the 3 h pre-rigor holding temperature did. Shear force values decreased as the pre-rigor holding temperatures increased. AES and holding for 3 h (at 25℃) resulted in higher water-holding capacity. Conclusion: Data confirmed that AES did not influence the various meat quality parameters in the present study, but pre-rigor holding temperature (25℃) alone or in combination with AES resulted in superior meat quality.
The effects of raw material feeding procedures and gelation temperatures on zeolite synthesis are investigated. Thus, the synthesis of zeolite 4A from sodium aluminate and sodium silicate solutions is chosen as a model reaction, for which equi-molar hydrogelation is performed with variation of feeding procedures and gelation temperatures. The formation of crystal nuclei, often being referred to as precursors, is induced under different conditions, the variation being examined by means of viscosity and water contents. The final products of zeolite 4A are evaluated by XRD, SEM morphology, particle size analysis and cation exchange capacity. Evidence shows that the viscosity of the initial products and their water contents are markedly influenced by the feeding methods of the reactant materials and by the gelation temperature. Further, it is found that the gelation at an elevated temperatures near 7$0^{\circ}C$ can be made possible through modification of mixing procedures. This provides convenient means of controlling the particle size of the final products. In this regard, a continuous flow-type mixing technique is proposed, which is demonstrated to be superior to the conventional batch-type mixings. The significance of this finding may lie in savings of equipment as well as energy costs, especialy on a large scale commercialization of zeolite production.
Transition metal oxides formed by a single or heterogeneous combination of transition metal ions and oxygen ions have various types of crystal structures, which can be classified as layered structures and non-layered structures. With non-layered structures, it is difficult to realize a two-dimensional structure using conventional synthesis methods. In this study, we report the synthesis of cobalt oxide into wafer-scale nanosheets using a surfactant-assisted method. A monolayer of ionized surfactant at the water-air interface acts as a flexible template for direct cobalt oxide crystallization below. The nanosheets synthesized on the water surface can be easily transferred to an arbitrary substrate. In addition, the synthesizing morphological and crystal structures of the nanosheets were analyzed according to the reaction temperatures. The electrochemical properties of the synthesized nanosheets were also measured at each temperature. The nanosheets synthesized at 70 ℃ exhibited higher catalytic properties for the oxygen evolution reaction than those synthesized at other temperatures. This work suggests the possibility of changing material performance by adjusting synthesis temperature when synthesizing 2D nanomaterials using a wide range of functional oxides, resulting in improved physical properties.
Temperature correction trans-membrane pressure (TC-TMP) is frequently used as a fouling index in membrane water treatment plants. TC-TMP equation is derived based on an assumption that the total membrane resistance (i.e. the sum of the intrinsic membrane resistance and fouling resistance) is not affected by temperature. This work verified the validity of this assumption using microfiltration (MF) and ultrafiltration (UF) membranes with and without fouling. The foulants used in the work were kaolin (inorganic) and humic acid (organic). The intrinsic resistances of MF and UF membranes remains at constant values regardless of temperature change. When the same amount of foulants were accumulated on the membrane, inorganic fouling resistance with kaolin was constant regardless of temperature change while organic fouling resistance with humic acid decreased at higher temperatures, which means that TC-TMP cannot be used as a fouling index when organic fouling occurs in a real field application. Since TC-TMP underestimates the amount of fouling at higher temperatures, more attention should be necessary in the operation of membrane water treatment plant in a hotter season like summer.
Monolayers of azo-benzene group containing fatty acids(8A5H) were made by spreading and compressing on the water surface. These monolayers were optically stimulated by illuminating the lights of 365[nm] and 450[nm] from X-non lamp, and the structural changes of the molecules were measured by the displacement current method. Also, the dynamic behaviors of these monolayers were measured by the $\pi-A$ isotherms when changing the temperatures of the water surface. As results, when the monolayers were stimulated by 365[nm] light, the positive currents which were generated by the structural changes from trans to cis were measured. But the negative currents of the structural changes from cis to trans were too weak to detect. When the temperatures of the water surface were increased, surface pressures of the monolayers increased early because of the thermal activations of the molecules, and the double liquid film phase were disappeared upon $40[^{\circ}C]$.
To investigate the characteristics of hybrid eggs and larva produced by olive flounder Paralichthys olivaceus females and starry flounder Platichthys stellatus males, we examined the developmental speed of hybrid eggs at different water temperatures. The developmental speed of hybrid eggs tended to increase with increasing water temperature. Specifically, the hatching times were 91 hrs, 62 hrs and 43 hrs at $10^{\circ}C$, $15^{\circ}C$ and $20^{\circ}C$, respectively. The mean biological minimum temperature of the hybrid was $1.3^{\circ}C$, which is in between that of the olive flounder and the starry flounder. In high water temperatureseasons, slower growth was observed in hybrids of the starry flounder which is a coldwater fish.
Ten days and monthly mean temperatures were analysed daily data observed during July, 1916 to March, 1970 statistically. Periodic characters were calculated by Δn, new method of approximate solution of Schuster Method. According to ten days mean temperatures, annual variation function is F($\theta_d$)=16.29-5.27 cos $\theta_d$+0.75 cos2 $\theta_d$-3.14 sin $\theta_d$+1.16 sin2 $\theta_d$-0.63 sin $\3{theta}_d$, where $\theta_d$=$-\frac{\pi}{18}$(d-3), d is the order of ten days period, 1 to 36. Annual mean water temperature is 16.3$^{\circ}C$, minimum in the last ten days of February 10.9$^{\circ}C$, maximum in the last ten days of August 24.5$^{\circ}C$. Periodic character of secular variation shows 11 year and its curve is F($\theta_y$)=16.29+0.53 cos $\theta_y$ -0.16cos $2{\theta}_y$+0.10 cos$3{\theta}_y$-0.10 sin $\theta_y$, where $\theta_y$=2$-\frac{2\pi}{11}$(y-1920), y is calendar year. And the relation between air temperature x and water temprature y is following. y=9.67 1.035$\^x$
