The purpose of this study is to improve the present methodology-for the estimation of optimal water supply from an impounding reservoir. The stochastic reservoir storage model presented in this paper is believed to be rational in that. the probability of reservoir depletion (return period) is to be calculated for the various monthly demands and storage capacities. The monthly flows are used to derive the reservoir storage capacity-monthly demand-probability curves at Dalcheon damsite and Hongcheon damsite in Han river basin.
This paper presents the evaluation of the impact of climate change on water resources and yield capacity of Asa and Kampe reservoirs. Trend analysis of mean temperature, runoff, rainfall and evapotranspiration was carried out using Mann Kendall and Sen's slope, while runoff was modeled as a function of temperature, rainfall and evapotranspiration using Artificial Neural Networks (ANN). Rainfall and runoff exhibited positive trends at the two dam sites and their upstream while forecasted ten-year runoff displayed increasing positive trend which indicates high reservoir inflow. The reservoir yield capacity estimated with the ANN forecasted runoff was higher by about 38% and 17% compared to that obtained with historical runoff at Asa and Kampe respectively. This is an indication that there is tendency for water resources of the reservoir to increase and thus more water will be available for water supply and irrigation to ensure food security.

This study was performed to ascertain the possibility of securing inflows to reservoir with low ratio of watershed to paddy field areas by outside diversion weir. The case of Maengdong reservoir and Samryong diversion weir was selected. Most of inflows to Maengdong reservoir with watershed area of $7.06\;km^2$ and total storage capacity of $1,269{\times}10^4\;m^3$ are filled with intake water from outside Samryong diversion weir. Only using water storage data in Maengdong reservoir from 1991 to 2009, the range of water intake in Samryong diversion weir to Maengdong reservoir was optimized to 0.135~30 mm/d, from which water intake to Maengdong reservoir was $1,672.9{\times}10^4\;m^3$ (70.1 %) and downstream outflow to Weonnam reservoir was $714.4{\times}10^4\;m^3$ (29.9 %). The parameters of DAWAST model for reservoir inflow were determined to UMAX of 313.8 mm, LMAX 20.3 mm, FC 136.8 mm, CP 0.018, and CE 0.007. Inflows to Maengdong reservoir were $427.1{\times}10^4\;m^3$ (20.3 %) from inside watershed, and $1,672.9{\times}10^4\;m^3$ (79.7 %) from outside. Paddy irrigation water requirements were estimated to $1,549{\times}10^4\;m^3$ on annual average. Operation rule curve was drawn by using daily inflow and irrigation requirement data. By securing the amount of inflow to Maengdong reservoir to about 80 % from outside Samryong diversion weir, water supply capacity for irrigation of $1,549{\times}10^4\;m^3/yr$ was analyzed to be enough. Additional water supplies for instream flow were analyzed to $1,412\;m^3/d$ in normal reservoir operation, $36,000\;m^3/d$ in withdrawal limit operation by operation rule curve from October to March of non irrigation period.

In Korea, there are only a few cases that quantitative evaluate the impacts of climate change on water supply. Therefore, to ensure stable water supply in the future, a water resources plan is needed to establish by analyzing the scenarios that take into consideration the various situations in the future. In this study, we analyzed the changes of various situations for the Nakdong River basin, and constructed it for the future scenario. The stability of the water supply was analyzed through the analysis of water supply and demand prospect for each scenario path. We selected the areas expected to experience difficulty in supplying water supply and analyzed the scenarios of future water shortage by region and water sector. Also, the effect of increasing water supply capacity through optimal integrated operation of water supply facilities was analyzed and presented. Analysis of the results shows that there is a difficulty in supplying water due to future climate change experienced in the Nakdong River basin. Therefore it is necessary to prepare various countermeasures in order to mitigate or solve this problem.

This study sought to reevaluate the water supply capacities of the Nakdong river dams, and identify measures to remedy any shortages using weirs, focusing on 5 multipurpose dams and 8 weirs. The reevaluation of the dams was performed by the HEC-5 program using the original design criteria and inflow data recorded for each dam. The results show that the capacities of the 3 dams has decreased to 73~87%. Three simulations were performed to determine the effect of coordinating the dams and weirs. The first simulation was based on individual operation of the dams; the second on coordinated operation of the dams; and the third on coordinated operation of the dams and weirs. To obtain a water supply reliability of 95%, the annual water shortage was calculated for a 20-year period (1992~2011). In addition, long-term runoff simulation data used in the national river basin investigation by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transportation were used with the dam discharge data, because long-term inflow data for the weirs were not available. The simulations were performed by the HEC-ResSim program, with the reservoir network divided into 2 groups based on the Waegwan water station. The results show that water supply capacity for the 3 simulations to be $2424Mm^3/yr$, $2612Mm^3/yr$ and $2734Mm^3/yr$, respectively. This indicates that coordinated operation of the dams and weirs could provide an additional water supply of $122Mm^3/yr$.
Vietnam is a developing country with the rate around 5%-6% per year, especially in urban areas. Rapidly developed urban areas lead to stress for infrastructure and the water supply is also stressed. In Hanoi city, total water capacity from the manufactories is around one million cubic meters per day and almost the entire main water source is groundwater but it is not enough to supply all of Hanoi's people, especially in the summer. A demo project is implemented in Hanoi University of Civil Engineering (HUCE) to produce drinking water by using the rainwater and membrane system and supply for people. In this project, rainwater is collected on the rooftop of the lecture building with an area of around $500m^2$ and $100m^3$ volumetric rainwater tanks. Afterwards, the rainwater is treated by the micro-membrane system and supplied to the tap water. Total cost for construction, technology and operation in the first year is around USD 48,558. In the long-term (15 yr) if HUCE invests in the same system, with $20m^3$ volumetric storage tank, it can provide drinking water for 500 staffs in every year. The cost of investment and operation for this system is lower than 30% compared to buying bottled water with the price USD 1.8/bottle. The drinking water parameters after treatment are pH, 7.3-7.75; turbidity, 0.6-0.8 NUT; total dissolved solids, 60-89 mg/L; coliform, 0; heavy metal similar with water quality in the bottle water in Vietnam.

The optimal reservoir storage capacity is needed to be determined at the stage of reservoir planning. The reservoir storage capacity should be based on water balance between demand and supply, and meet the water deficity during the growing season. However, the optimal reservoir storage capacity should be determined considering benefit-cost analysis for the project. In this study, Two models are developed. The one is the RSOM(Reservoir Storage Optimization Model), that is consisted by three submodels, MROPER (Modified Reservoir OPERation model), RESICO(REservoir SIze and the construction COst computation) model. And the other is the BECA(BEnefit-Cost Anaysis) model. For model application, three districts, Chungha, Ipsil and Edong were selected. The relative difference of B/C ratio between project planning data and estimation by RSOM is 17.9, 15.0 and 7.3% respectively, which may be applicable for water resources development feasibility planning.

Optimal water management is to efficiently and equally supply an appropriate amount of water by using irrigation facilities. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate water supply capacity through distribution simulation between the designed distribution rate and re-distributed rate according to the changed farming conditions. In this study, we recalculated the agricultural water supply amount of Geumcheon main canal, which beneficiary area was reduced due to the development of Gwangju-Jeonnam innovation city, and we constructed a canal network using the SWMM model to simulate the change in supply rate of each main canal according to the re-distributed rate. Even though the supply amount of the Geumcheon main canal was reduced from 1.20 m3/s to 0.90 m3/s, it showed a similar supply rate to the current, and the reduced quantity could be supplied to the rest of the main canal. As a result, the arrival time at the ends of all main canal, except for the Geumcheon main canal, decreased from 1 to 3 hours, and the supply rate increased from 4 to 17.0% at the main canal located at the end of the beneficiary area of Naju reservoir.

Agricultural drought is a natural phenomenon that is not easy to observe and predict and is difficult to quantify. In South Korea, the amount of agricultural water used is large and the types of use are varied, so even if an agricultural drought occurs due to insufficient precipitation, the drought actually felt in the irrigated area is it can be temporally and spatially different. In order to interpret the general drought in the past, drought disasters were evaluated using single indicators such as drought damage area, precipitation shortage status, and drought index, and a comprehensive drought management system is needed through drought diagnosis survey. Therefore, we intend to conduct research on agricultural drought assessment and diagnosis using re-evaluation of agricultural facilities and irrigation water supply network due to changes in various conditions such as climate change, irrigation canal network, and evaluation of water supply capacity of agricultural facilities. In this study, agricultural drought diagnosis was conducted on two agricultural reservoirs located in Sangju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, with structural or non-structural evaluations to increase spatiotemporal water supply and efficiency in terms of water shortages. The results of the agricultural drought diagnosis evaluation can be used to identify irrigated areas and canal network vulnerable to drought and to prioritize drought response.

Climate changes have impacted to many sectors including water resources in Vietnam. Vietnam is agricultural development country having more than 6,000 earth dam reservoirs. These reservoirs play a very important role in flow regulation for water supply to economic sectors. In the context of undesirable impacts of climate change such as increasing temparature, evaporation, and changing rainfall and rainfall pattern, water demands and inflow to reservoirs also are being influenced. This leads to changes of resevoir exploitation effects that needs to be assessed for adaptation solutions. This article summarizes evaluations on climate change impacts to 16 reservoirs in 4 regions of North-West, North-East, Central Part, and Central Highland of Vietnam. Research results showed that in the context of climate change, safety of these reservoirs will be decreased from 8% to 20% in both water supply and flood control capacity.
