  • Environmental Control & Life Support System (ECLSS) technology is essential for humans to live safely in space other than on Earth and celestial bodies (ex, Moon, Mars etc.) in our solar system. Life support systems generally consist of Air Management System (AMS), Water Recovery System (WRS), and Waste Management System (WMS), and it can enable humans to breathe and live in enclosed dwellings in outer space. First, this paper described the development trends of life support systems that have been developed under the leadership of NASA. In addition, we introduced the current development status of life support system in operation on the International Space Station (ISS) and prospected the development trends in Korea.

  • In the present investigation, experimental studies were conducted on the fire suppression performance of twin-fluid water mist spray which is subjected to thermal radiation in a closed space. Downward-directed water-mist sprays, interacting with an under kerosene pool fire, were investigated in a test facility. The mass mean diameter of water-mist droplets were measured by PMAS under various flow conditions. The developed twin-fluid water mit spray nozzle satisfied the criteria of NFPA 750, Class 1. The mechanism of fire suppression by fine water mist was concluded to be the cooling of the fire surface which leads to the suppression of fuel evaporation. It was proved that the automatic twin-fluid water mist spray system under lower pressures could be applied to an industrial facilities.

  • Nihonbashi River takes more time to discharge water pollution because it runs low-lying areas and is easy to affect tidal flow from downstream. After rainfall, the water environment of the river has become worse. Even though the river is located in the important metropolitan area in Tokyo, it dose not have any connection with people's lives. We took Nihonbashi River as an example to consider methods for river restoration of improving water quality and river environment in densely inhabited urban areas. Especially, the major issue of river restoration is how smoothly and quickly discharges water pollution which flows into with river flow. The conclusion of this project is the effectiveness of improvement of water environment to construct of rock gates in Nihonbashi River and Kanda River to control inflows from upstream and tidal flows from downstream.

  • In many countries, methods to evaluate buildings have been investigated and practiced in order to reduce energy use and search for sustainable architecture while providing comfortable space for the users, in Korea, the current certification system has a short history, and has been improved for better practicability. Among many different factors in the certification system, the water resource problem is an important as the demand has been sharply increasing while reckless use and sewage treatment system causes the reduction of usable water. This study aims to find problems of water usage in building. water resource in the current certification will be used for the analysis of each factor in water resource, and the direction of improvement required in the certification in order to improve the water usage in buildigns will be proposed.

  • In this note, we seek traveling wave solutions of a shallow water model in a one dimensional space by a simple but rigorous calculation. From the profile equation of traveling wave solutions, we need to investigate the phase portrait of a one dimensional ordinary differential equation $\tilde{u}^{\prime}=F(\tilde{u})$ connecting two end states of the traveling wave solution.

  • Remodeling of agricultural facilities can be defined as follows; it is received newly social needs which calamity is reduced, its function is improved, ecosystem is maintained, water-friendly space is preserved. By those remodeling, environment water and tour water with role as a place of rest and leisure sports, and so forth can be ensured. Therefore, on this study, we would propose the approach of the repair and enhancement of agricultural facilities which can reflect those social demands.

  • We analysed the old automatic clock and time signal system that was used by the national astronomical agency in East Asian Area. Jagyeongnu is a kind of water clock that was operated by the flowing water in Joseon Dynasty. Seowoongwan managed the water clock so as to keep the standard time system in the dynasty from the 16th year (1434) of King Sejong's reign. In 1438 the Okru that was invented in the period. Such kind of clock system already was used in China, which was Shui $y\ddot{u}n$ i hsiang t'ai (水運儀象壹) in 1092. During the period Joseon Dynasty, China and Japan had been kept the time system that one day is divided into 12 shin (12辰) or 100 gak (刻). However detailed part of the system had a little difference among the three countries. Though the whole system of water clock in Joseon had manufactured on the basis of Chinese, it had been gradually developed by own method and idea. In this study we show the historical records of the standard time keeping system in East Asian history. And then we can inform materials on the structure and functional devises for the purpose of new restoration models about the automatic clock and time system.

  • The SPEHREx (Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer) is one of the candidates for the Astrophysical Small Explore mission of the NASA proposed together with KASI (PI Institute: Caltech). It will perform an all-sky near-infrared spectral survey to probe the origin of the Universe and water in the planetary systems and to explore the evolution of galaxies. The SPHEREx is designed to cover wide field of view of $3.5{\times}7deg$. as well as wide spectral range from 0.7 to $4.8{\mu}m$ by using four linear variable filters. The SPHEREx is under the Phase-A study to finalize the conceptual design and test plan of the instrument. The international partner, KASI will contribute to the SPHEREx in the hardware as well as the major science cases. The final selection will be made in the early 2017. Here, we report the current status of the SPHEREx mission.
