An Experimental Study on Ultrasonic Spray Cooling of Heat Pipe Condenser (히트파이프 응축부의 초음파 분무냉각에 관한 실험적 연구)

  • In this study, the spray cooling heat transfer and working characteristics of the screen wick heat pipe with ultrasonic spray cooling system in condenser were experimentally investigated. The heat pipe was made of copper tube 300 mm long with inner diameter of 11.1 mm. The evaporator and condenser lengths of heat pipe were 40, 200 mm and the wick structure consists of two layer of 100 mesh copper screen. The experimental results show that the ultrasonic spray cooling increases the heat transfer rate on the condenser surface, and the total thermal resistance of heat pipe system decreases remarkably. A comparison is made for the two working fluids, water and ethanol. The surface temperature of the ethanol tube in evaporator section becomes higher than that of the water tube. Thus, the experimental result shows that water is more useful than ethanol as the working fluid because of increasing the operational limit within this experimental conditions.

  • In this study, the safety of the driving gear reducer of ESW traveling sea water screen was evaluated through seismic analysis. Mode analysis of gear reducer was performed for reliability of analysis. Seismic analysis was performed in Operating Basis Earthquake(OBE) and Safe Shutdown Earthquake(SSE), which was applied as design condition using Floor Respnse Spectrum(FRS). The maxsimum displacement of gear reducer under OBE and SSE were 0.0137 mm and 0.0241 mm, respectively. The maximum stress of gear reducer under OBE and SSE were 2.42 MPa and 4.36 MPa, respectively.

Analysis of water withdrawal and quality of intake pipe with functional screen (기능성 스크린이 부착된 집수관의 취수량 및 수질 분석)

  • In order to analyze the quantitative water withdrawal amount of intake pipe with functional screen and to evaluate the improvement effect of the suspended solid and turbidity through the filter media, four-step research methods were suggested. In the first step, laboratory scale experiments were constructed to determine the constitution method of the sample device filter media. In the second step, sample device was constructed and the flow rate was observed through intake pipe with functional screen. In the third step, flow rate was observed at different turbidity conditions for each filter material, and the hydraulic conductivity was estimated using MODFLOW. Finally, numerical model was constructed with the MODFLOW for the sample device and the estimated hydraulic conductivities were applied to the third step and the amount of water withdrawal was analyzed. As a result of applying hydraulic conductivity at 0 NTU, 39.96% more withdrawal was calculated than the observed flow rate. On the other hand, when hydraulic conductivity was applied at 100~120 NTU, the difference in flow rates was 9.41%.

  • heat pipe with screen meshed wick. The heat pipe was designed in 200 screen meshs, 500 mm length and 12mm O.D tube of copper, water as working fluid and nitrogen as non-condensible gas. Heat pipe used in this study has evaporator, condenser and adiabatic section, respectively. Experimental data of wall temperature distribution along axial length is presented for heat transport capacity, condensor cooling water temperature change, degrees of an inclination angle, and operating temperature.

Studies on Disintegration of Korean Old Corrugated Container(KOCC) Using a Pilot Screen (파일롯 스크린을 활용한 KOCC 해리 효율 연구)

  • Pulping is a stage that can change fibrous raw materials into pumpable slurry. Recovered paper can be defibrated to individual fibers by shear stress generated by rotation of a rotor and water. Disintegration of recovered paper is more complicated than that of chemical pulp. When disintegration of recovered paper is poor, screening and cleaning efficiency will be worse and properties of paper will also be deteriorated. Therefore, pulping is an important treatment for improvement of availability of recovered paper and process runnability. In this study, degrees of disintegration of KOCC obtained from a linerboard mill was analyzed with a pilot-scale screen. Flake removal of KOCC slurry was performed by a pilot screen. Simple pumping action gave a positive effect on disintegration of KOCC. After pumping for 10 minutes, paper strength increased without the change of water retention value and fibrillation of KOCC slurry. This phenomena can be explained by modification of hornified surface of KOCC fibers by shear stress generated by pumping. Consequently, disintegration efficiency of KOCC can be enhanced by control of retention time at pulper or an agitation power at chests of papermaking process.

  • The treated ballast water from previous treatment contains microorganisms and pathogenic organisms in an filtration treatment system. The advantage of this process can be filtrated to minimize the demage to screen clogging of drum filter with sweeping the solids off rotating the surface of the filter. Another advantage is to drop off the solids with controlling revolution of drum screen in pretreatment filtration process. Also the fact that it is easy to attach and detach a several type of screen for getting the expected water quality is another advantage, too. Filter rotation speed at 20rpmis 40.5cmHg and 40rpm is 36.6cmHg. Filter out impurities from ballast water over 60rpm is 35cmHg. Filtration system removal aquatic organism over $80{\mu}m$ in ballast water. This study shows that the filtration treatment system has a potential for the removal of ballast water.

  • The fire on a high-rise building would possibly cause fatalities because of ineffective egress due to extended evacuation distance in huge building structure, coupled with dense population, thus requiring secured optimal evacuation method and space. The restroom located in the living space is considered to be useful refuge space which is built with wet pipe and noncombustible materials. This study aimed to develop a system that would make use of the existing restroom as a fire refuge space. Ventilation duct were installed to discharge odor during normal conditions. We could serve the air supply duct to also raise the air pressure in the restroom so as to prevent the toxic gas from gapping around the restroom. The nozzle for the water screen would be installed in restroom door facing the living room to form the water screen which would protect the door. This study is intended to replace the existing refuge space with the restroom in such a way as described above.

A Numerical Study for Optimum Design of Dust Separator Screen Based on Coanda Effect (코안다효과를 이용한 제진기 스크린의 최적설계를 위한 수치적 연구)

  • There is a need to study dust separator screens with good drainage efficiency while effectively filtering suspended solids and other contaminants entering the intake pumping station, the drainage pumping station and the mediation pumping station, the cooling water inlet of the power plant, and the like. In this paper, Numerical studies were conducted for the optimal design of the dust separator screen using the Coanda effect. The shape of the dust separator screen is important, such as the right curvature radius $R_1$ at the top of the dust separator screen and the left curvature radius $R_2$ at the top, h is the height difference and shape between the screen and the accelerating plate, and ${\theta}$ is the inclination angle of the screen. A total of 4 shape factors were set and the effects of Coanda and drainage performance of each element were compared and analyzed, the optimum length and size of each shape element were derived by classifying the shape elements into direct and indirect influences. Finally, it was possible to effectively filter foreign matter by narrowing the screen spacing, and the drainage performance was analyzed and optimized through numerical studies of dust separator screen.

Theoretical Analysis of Heat Transportation Limitation by Porosity of Wick in Screen Mesh Wick Heat Pipe (스크린메쉬윅 히트파이프에서 윅의 기공율변화에 따른 열수송한계의 이론적 고찰)

  • The purpose of the present study is to investigate the capillary heat transportation limitation in heat pipe according to the change of screen mesh wick porosity. Diameter of pipe was 6 mm, and mesh numbers are 100, 150, 200 and 250 and water was selected as a working fluid. According to the change of wick porosity and mesh number, the capillary pressure, pumping pressure, liquid friction coefficient in wick, vapor friction coefficient, and capillary heat transportation limitation are analyzed by theoretical design method of a heat pipe. As some results, the capillary heat transportation limitation in screen mesh wick heat pipe is largely affected by wick porosity and mesh number.
