As a large scale port development in coastal waters proceeds step by step and populations in the vicinity of port are getting increased, the issue on 'how to dispose the treated municipal water and wastewater in harbor' brings peoples' concern. The submarine outfall system discharges the primary or secondary treated effluent at the coastline or in deep water, or between these two. The effluent, which has a density similar to that of fresh water, rises to the sea surface forming plume or jet, together with entraining the surrounding sea water and becomes very dilute. We intended in this paper to investigate the impact on dilution of effluent and the behavior of flume under the conditions of the seasonal and spatial temperature variations, which have not been noticeable in designing effective marine outfall system. To predict and analyze the behaviour and dilution characteristics of plume not just with the effluent temperature, but also with the seasonal variation of temperature of surround water, CORMIX( Cornell Mixing Zone Expert System)-GI have been applied. The results should be used with caution in evaluation the mixing zone characteristics of discharged water. We hope to help for the effective operation of outfall system, probable outfall design, protection of water quality, and warm water discharges from a power plant, etc.
Surface Image Velocimetry (SIV) is an instrument to measure water surface velocity by using image processing techniques. To improve its measuring accuracy, it is essential to get high quality images with low skewness. A truck-mounted SIV system would be a good way to get images, since its crane gives high altitude to the images. However, the images taken with a truck-mounted SIV would be swayed due to the movement of crane and the camera by winds. In that case, to analyze the images, it is necessary to compensate the side sway in the images. The present study is to develop an algorithm to analyze the swayed images by combining common image processing techniques and coordinate transform techniques. The system follows the traces of some selected fixed points and calculates the displacements of the video camera. By subtracting the average velocity of the fixed points from that of grid points, the velocity fields of the flow can be corrected. To evaluate the system's performance, two image sets were used, one image set without side sway and another set with side sway. The comparison of their results showed very close with the error of around 6 %.

The purity of gypsum and quantitation of impurities of flue gas gypsum will not only play an important role in deciding of the optimal condition during a trial run of FGD (flue gas desulfurization), but also can be utilized in quality control of gypsum. The purity of gypsum can be determined from combined water, sulfur trioxide and calcium concentration. We found that the thermal analysis by TGA (thermogravimetric analysis) was the most accurate and convenient method to determine the purity of gypsum. This method will be done in a hour and the results were reproducible. On the other hand, the best way of the analysis of impurities in gypsum was fusion method using $LiBO_2$ as a fusion agent. We also determined the amount of $CO_2$ gas to analyze magnesium carbonate and calcium carbonate contents. The analyses of combined water by TGA, fusion method followed by ICP-AES (inductively coupled plasmaatomic emission spectroscopy) and determination of $CO_2$ amount can lead to more accurate and convenient method for gypsum analysis.
Distributed Models have relative weak points due to the amount of computer memory and calculation time required for calculating water flow using a numerical analysis based on kinematic wave theory when compared to the conceptual models used so far. Typically, the distributed models have been mainly applied to small basins. It was necessary to decrease the resolution of the grid to make it applicable for large scale watersheds, and because it would take up too much time to calculate using a higher resolution. That has been one of the more difficult factors in applying the model for actual work. In this paper, MPI (Message Passing Interface) technique was applied to solve the problem of calculation time as it is one of the demerits of the distributed model for performing physical and complicated numerical calculations for large scale watersheds. The comparison studies were performed a single domain and a divided small domain in Yongdam Dam watershed in case of typoon 'Ewiniar' at 2006. They were compared to analyze the application effects of parallelization technique. As a result, a maximum of 10 times the amount of calculation time was saved but keeping the level of quality for discharge by using parallelization code rather than a single processor.

The objectives of this study were to analyze trends of temporal water quality and trophic state in Andong and Imha reservoirs using chemical dataset during 1993 ${\sim}$ 2004, obtained from the Ministry of Environment, Korea. According to long-term limnological analyses, Suspended solids (SS) in Imha Reservoir were 2 ${\sim}$ 8 fold2 greater, than those in SS of Andong Reservoir, and the high solids increased total phosphorus (TP) and biological oxygen demand ($BOD_5$) and decreased the transparency, measured as Secchi depth (SD). Chlorophyll-a (CHL-a) increased little or decreased slightly in the both reservoirs during the high solids, resulting in reduced yields of CHL-a : TP ratios. The deviation analysis of Trophic State Index (TSI) in Imha Reservoir showed that about 70% of TSI (CHL-a)-TSI (SD) and TSI (CHL-a)-TSI(TP) values were less than zero and the lowest values were-60, indicating that influence of inorganic solids (or non-volatile solids) on phytoplankton growth was evident in Imha Reservoir and the impact was greater than that of Andong Reservoir. Inorganic solids in Imha Reservoir resulted in light limitation on phytoplankton growth and thus contributed variations in the relations among three parameters of trophic state index. Especially, seasonal data analysis of nutrients in both reservoirs showed that during the postmonsoon, mean TP concentration was Imha Reservoir greater in than that in Andong Reservoir. The higher TP concentrantion was mainly attributed to increases of inorganic solids from soil erosions and nonpoint source inputs within the watershed. The high inorganic turbidity in Imha Reservoir should be reduced for the conservation of water quality for, especially a tap water supply.

This study was conducted to develop new crossbred pig using Korean native pig and Duroc. Fifteen pigs of pure Duroc (D) and 26 crossbred gilts (15 of DK1 and 11 of DK2) were reared until $195{\pm}5$ days old, then slaughtered at local slaughterhouse. Pork loin was gathered and vacuum packed from left carcass after 24 h of slaughter to analyze meat quality traits, such as color, pH, water holding capacity (WHC), cooking loss and shear force (SF), and free fatty acid composition. Live weight and carcass weight of Duroc and DK1 were $119.1{\pm}8.7/82.91{\pm}6.1kg$ and $116.3{\pm}6.3/80.91{\pm}4.4kg$, respectively, and it was significantly higher than those of DK2 ($104.7{\pm}8.4/71.36{\pm}5.7kg$) (p<0.05).There was no significant difference in proximate composition between animal groups, however DK2 showed significantly lower shear force (SF) and higher water holding capacity (WHC) than other groups (p<0.05). The redness of DK2 also showed significantly higher than Duroc (p<0.05), however there was no significant difference in lightness and yellowness (p>0.05). DK1 showed the highest monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFAs) contents of $51.45{\pm}2.0%$ and DK2 showed the highest polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFAs) contents of $8.98{\pm}1.4%$, however there was no significantly difference in PUFA/SFA ratio between pig groups (p>0.05). Duroc and DK2 contain significantly higher amount of linoleic ($7.99{\pm}1.2$ and $8.11{\pm}1.3%$, respectively) and linolenic acid ($0.43{\pm}0.1$ and $0.44{\pm}0.1%$, respectively) than DK1, and DK1 contains significantly higher amount of oleic acid ($47.32{\pm}1.8%$) than others (p<0.05).
The objectives of this study were to analyze chemical the water quality related to the fish community and to evaluate the ecosystem health based on the faunal composition and guild structure in 2007 in Baekma River. Mean concentrations of biological oxygen demand (BOD) and chemical oxygen demand (COD) were 2.8 and $4.0mg\;L^{-1}$, respectively and total nitrogen (TN) and total phosphorus (TP) were $5.0mg\;L^{-1}$ and $158{\mu}g\;L^{-1}$, which is indicating that the river is in an eutrophic state. Especially, organic pollution and eutrophication occurred in the downstream reach of Baekma River. A total of 19 fish species were collected during the study and the most dominant species was Opsariichthys uncirostris amurensis accounted 48% of the total abundances. The proportion of sensitive species was low (2.3%), compared with that of tolerant species (71.8%). These results suggest that tolerant species and the biotic quality of the fish community was severely degraded. According to the multi-metric model, the Index of Biological Integrity (IBI), the mean model value of the fish community in Baekma River was estimated as 14.8 indicating a "poor" condition. The minimum values of the IBI were observed in the downstreams, and this was mainly attributed to chemical pollutions of nutrients (N, P) and organic matters.
The study has examined alterations in groundwater quality by investigating the influence of rainfall on electrical conductivity (EC) and nitrate concentration in the groundwater of the Geum River Basin in South Korea. Mann Kendall and Sen's Slope estimator were employed to analyze the trends and estimate the trend's magnitude. The administrative map of the study area was utilized to assess the trends of these parameters within each administrative region. Seventeen years (from 2005 to 2021) of data on EC, groundwater levels (GWL), precipitation, and six years (from 2015 to 2020) of nitrate concentration data were utilized for this analysis. The results indicate that, in most administrative regions, there has been an increase in nitrate concentration, and EC, whereas precipitation has seen a slight decrease in a downstream and an increasing trend in upstream. The correlation coefficients calculated between these parameters reveal that there is no direct impact of precipitation on nitrate and EC, but a negative correlation was observed between GWL and EC. The most significant increasing trend in nitrate concentration was observed in two districts (Iksan and Gunsan ), which correspond to regions with significant agricultural activity; about 50% of these districts area are used for agricultural activities.

This study was conducted to identify the quality and functional properties of meat and meat batter among commercial broilers and two different ages of spent layers. Breast and whole leg meat samples were prepared from the broilers and spent layers to compare meat quality traits: Commercial broiler (Arbor Acre; 6-week-old) and two different ages of spent layers (Hy-Line; 70 and 95-week-old). Three types of meat batters containing breast meat as 50% of total ingredients were also prepared to analyze processing qualities. The broiler showed the highest water holding capacity (p<0.05) and the lowest cooking loss value (p<0.05) in both meat and meat batter samples. The breast and leg meat of the 95-week-old layers showed the highest shear force value (p<0.05), and also showed the highest shear force and hardness values in the meat batter. Although the oldest layer meat showed tougher textural traits than the 70-week-old layers, no significant differences were found for cooking loss and water loss values in both the meat and meat batter samples. Besides, panelists gave equivalent scores within different ages and parts of the cooked layer meats in the sensory evaluation. Similar ratios of polyunsaturated fatty acids to saturated fatty acids, and omega-6 to omega-3 fatty acids were obtained from both the 70-week-old layer and 95-week-old layer meats. In conclusion, the 95-week-old spent layers, especially for breast meat, had equivalent potential as raw materials for processed meat products compared to the 70-week-old layers.

Recently the press and institute recognized fly ash as it had excellent performance. Its research and applications are on the rise largely as a substitute for cement. On the contrary, it is in a situation that the regulation of high quality fly ash remains at a low level. Accordingly, this study was to establish 8000 class of fineness of fly ash and three levels of substitute like 15%, 3 0%, and 45% in order to analyze the replacement ratio and effect of water-binder ratio for fly ash that affected the properties of ternary system concrete. As a result of experiment by planning water-binder ratio for two levels like 40% and 50%, it increased the fluidity in a fresh state, and it decreased the air content. This study has found out the setting acceleration and reduction of heat of hydration. As for the strength property in a set state, this study has shown the tendency of being equal or higher in age 28 days.
