The steel impeller placed in a water pump has been studied with the aim to understand corrosion phenomena on the surface responsible for reducing the pumping efficiency of water inside cooling system. This preliminary experiment includes a period (over 5 months) observation with a powered microscope and weight measurements. The experiments are carried out at different conditions of water and mixtures of water and coolants, based on the water contents of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% water (pure tap water). From the visual results of microscopy, most of the steel surface is fitted and clear rusty or corrosion phenomena are noticeable as time goes. In addition, the weight loss of the sample specimen submerged in the water is linearly increased, whereas those in the mixtures of water initially be constant and then gain weight linearly.
The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of the refrigerant charge amount on the performance of a water-to-water ground source heat pump with a variation of compressor speed and the secondary fluid flow rate. The water-to-water ground source heat pump was tested by varying refrigerant charge amount from -40% to 20% of full charge. Compressor speed was changed from 30 Hz to 75 Hz and the secondary fluid flow rate was adjusted from 6 LPM to 14 LPM. For all test conditions, EWTs of an indoor heat exchanger and an outdoor heat exchanger were maintained at standard conditions of ISO 13256-2. The slope of the COP with the variation of charge amount is much steeper at undercharged conditions than that at overcharged conditions. For all compressor speed, the variation of the system performance according to charge amounts showed the similar trends. However, the optimum charge amount of the system increased a little with an increment of compressor speed. When the secondary fluid flow rate decreased, the system was optimized at higher refrigerant charge amount conditions.

When the pumps stopped in the operation by the power failure, the hydraulic transients take place in the sudden change of a velocity of pipe line. Each and every water hammer problem shows the critical stage to be greatly affected the facts of safety and reliability in case of power failure. The field tests of the water hammer executed at Cheong-Yang booster pump station having an air chamber. The effects were studied by both the practical experiments and the CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics : Surge 2008). The result states that the system with water hammering protection equipment was much safer when power failure happens. The following data by a computational fluid dynamic analysis are to be shown below, securing the system stability and integrity. (1) With water hammering protection equipment. (1) Change of pressure : Up to $15.5\;kg/cm^2$ in contrary to estimating $16.88\;kg/cm^2$. (2) Change rate of water level : 52~33% in contrary to estimating 55~27%. (3) Note that the operational pressure of pump runs approx. 145 m, lowering 155 m of the regularity head of pump. (4) Note that the cycle of water hammering delays from 80 second to 100 second, together with easing the function of air value at the pneumatic lines. (2) Change of pressure without water hammering protection equipment : Approximate $22.86\;kg/cm^2$. The comprehensive result says that the computational fluid dynamics analysis would match well with the practical field-test. It was able to predict Max. or Min. water hammering time in a piping system. This study aims effectively to alleviate water hammering in a pipe line to be installed with air chamber at the pumping station and results in making the stability of pump system in the end.

In a general centrifugal pump, if it is operated in a two-phase flow the activity of the impeller usually degrades and occasionally losses its function. However, the effect of break down of centrifugal pump due to entrained air has not been clarified yet. This paper shows the air-water two-phase flow characteristics of closed type and semi-open type impellers. In a sing1e-phase flow, closed-type impeller has higher efficiency and head. But in air-water two-phase flow semi-open type impeller's rates of decreases of efficiency and head are decreased.

River water is higher in temperature than the surrounding environment during the winter. It is highly suitable a heat source for heat pump system. Despite its suitability, however, it is not widely used, due to its fouling and corrosive nature in heat exchanger tubes of evaporator. It is designed prior-treatment system which come into direct contact with the river water, such as auto-seamer, ozone generator for bactericidal test and auto-cleaning system. And it is analyzed treatment effects for its operation. It is designed two-stage compression heat pump system using R-134a with heating load 35.16kW, ad analyzed its performance. As a result it is obtained 3.08 COP when mid-point pressure is 1,200kPa, and bypass ratio of flowing refreigerant to high-stage compressor is 25.1%

A systematic methodology has been proposed to establish a reliable design of water pump system. A simplified steady-state dynamic model of water pump system has been developed to study the response of water pump system to the dynamic load mainly due to the run-out and unbalance. Design modifications are needed to strengthen the structural integrity of existing designs. Increasing the natural frequency of system is pursued to prevent a resonance from occurring in the engine excitation range. A computational reliability methodology combined with finite element analysis is used to identify the most significant factor affecting the system performance. This method considered influence of design control parameters for the performance of design. By including control factors to the system model in a systematic way, more reliable design is expected.
A simple transient simulation of ground source heat pump system was carried out to investigate the effects of ground thermal conductivity on its performance. The TRNSYS code with a simple water to water heat pump model was used to compare the COP variation of the system. A new ground heat exchanger called by semi-closed loop was proposed and constructed in the real site. The effective thermal conductivity was measured using the test equipment developed by according to the line source model. The simulation results showed that highly efficient thermal conductivity of the grout material could increase the performance of the heat pump system very well. And the new ground heat exchanger showed the increased effective thermal conductivity as the penetration water flow rate(PWFR) was increased. Therefore, the performance improvement of the heat pump system using the proposed ground heat exchanger can be expected.
This paper presents an accelerated life test of booster pump for home water purifier. The failure analysis shows that decreased flux due to the plastic deformation of bypass spring adjusting pressure is the predominant failure mechanism. An accelerated life test is designed and implemented to estimate the lifetime of the booster pump. Temperature, water pressure and voltage are selected as accelerating variables through the technical review about failure mechanism. It is assumed that the lifetimes of booster pumps follow lognormal distribution and the combination model of temperature and non-thermal stresses holds. The life-stress relationship, acceleration factor, and $B_{10}$ life at design condition are estimated by analyzing the accelerated life test data.

The treated sewage temperature is about $5^{\circ}C$ lower in summer and $5{\sim}10^{\circ}C$ higher in winter than ambient air. It can be used heat pump heat source and is good heat source on high performance of heat pump. In this study, to develop 100RT 2-stage compression heat pump use treated sewage water heat source and system applies to sewage disposal plant. Although heat pump is better performance, the large temperature difference between load and source makes the performance degradation of a heat pump. To solve this problem screw 2-stage compression is considered. The experiment was focused on the system operating performance variations over supply water and treated sewage water a temperature in the field. The results show that system of heating performance is higher then general heat pump and is enough to supply a hot water of $70^{\circ}C$.
