  • Causing by green house gas emission, global warming is being accelerated significantly. This global warming cause world climate to change quiet different than before and we call this phenomenon is Climate Change. Environmental Impact Assessment being implemented in Korea is to prevent predicted environmental impacts from deteriorating within the domestic information and situation. As the climate change is getting severe, new meteorological records can be occurred which is exceeded existing statistical data. According to KMA(Korea Meteorological Administration) data, maximum value of precipitation and temperature in many regions changed with new data within last decade. And these events accompanied with landslides and flooding, and these also affected on water quality in rivers and lakes. According to impacts by climate change, disasters and accidents from heavy rain are the most apprehensive parts. And water pollution caused by overflowed non-point sources during heavy rain fall, fugitive dust caused by long-term drought, and sea level rise and Tsunami may affect on seaside industrial complex should be worth consideration. In this review, necessity of mutual consideration with influences of climate change was considered adding on existing guideline.

  • In this paper, numerical and experimental studies are performed to investigate the liquid impact on a free falling wedge. In the numerical simulation, the structure is assumed to be rigid and the elastic response is ignored. The fully nonlinear coupling between wedge and water is considered by an auxiliary function method based on the Boundary Element Method (BEM). At the intersection of the wedge surface and liquid surface, two coincident nodes are used to decouple the boundary conditions. The Eulerian free surface conditions in the local coordinate system are adopted to update the deformed free surface. In the experiments, five pressure sensors are fixed on each side of the wedge which is released from an experimental installation. Steel and aluminum wedges that have different structural elasticity are used in the experiments to investigate the influence of structural elasticity on the impact force. Numerical results are compared with experimental data and they agree very well. The influence of fluid gravity, body mass, initial entry speed and deadrise angle on the impact pressure are further investigated.

  • Brebbia's model has been analyzed to develop the appropriate waterworks management system in Korea, and compared with the conventional models such as EPANET, WaterCad, and InfoWorks. The hydraulic theory of the models was analyzed. Each model's numerical techniques, required parameters, input data and operational methodologies, restrictions, practical applicability and other aspects were investigated. In order to check the validity of Brebbia model, the comparative analysis with EPANET, WaterCAD, and InfoWorks models was performed for linear and nonlinear cases. To find out advantages and disadvantages of each model, the modeling was performed for a simple network and for more complicated A city waterworks system, and the three models applicability was examined. Finally, optimal modeling technique and a model suitable for the use in Korea was suggested, and the problems related to present projects of waterworks management system in Korea were analyzed.

  • On the basis of sustainable long-term water resources planning, the development of ground water resources should be interlocked with the surface water development In considering the intertemporal equity, overpumping of groundwater may diminish or eliminate the groundwater resources stock of post-generations. Regulatory landuse zoning for groundwater resources recharge area is indispensable measures to prevent groundwater pollution. Adequate treatment of polluted water from various sources such as municipal sewage, industrial wastewater, landfill site leachate, and abandoned boring wells, is also necessary for groundwater protection. To preserve groundwater resources as common property goods, groundwater use tax should be imposed upon the large scale groundwater use. Finally, the establishment of groundwater development license system is recommended to achieve the social optimal production and to avoid external diseconomy.

  • Stream and groundwater qualities of two rural watershes in the upper North Han river basin were monitored for 14months. Six to eight stream sampling sites and two to there groundwater monitoring wells were chosen and water samples were regularyl collected and analyzed with respect to total nitrogen(T-N), total phosphorus(T-P) and total suspended solids(TSS). Monitoring data were graphically analyzed with respect to time.Rainfall amout and intensity seemed to have an impact on stream T-N and T-P concentration changes. TSS concentrations were generally lower than the first class stream water quality standared, Both stream and groundwater qualities near livesstock feetlot areas were degraded indicating the feedlots have an impact on water quality.

  • This study was performed to evaluate the adsorption rate of phosphate corrosion inhibitor and reaction rate constant in drinking water distribution systems. The optimum concentration of corrosion inhibitor would vary depending on the quality of water, pipe materials, and condition of metal surfaces. The current adsorption study indicated that the residual phosphate concentration of the corrosion inhibitor decreased with the time as it adsorbed on the surface of pipe material. As time went by, the residual phosphate concentration became constant. It means that the formation of the corrosion protection film on metal surfaces is completed.

  • The patterns of occurrence of typhoons in North Pacific region are constantly changing with the increase of temperature in sea surface and the occurrence of El Nino and La Nina and changes of their development caused by global warming. In addition, alterations of flow regimes caused by large-scale hydraulic construction projects in the past few years and changes in precipitation patterns caused by climate change have imposed increased stress on hydroecology while the indiscreet utilization of water resources has a negative environmental impact on the water flows in the natural rivers and streams and hydroecological structures. The purpose of this study is to explore the impact of altered hydrologic regime on stream and riparian ecosystems that are most vulnerable to climate variability and extremes such as typhoons.

  • This study is performed to examine the ground reinforcement effect and the environmental impact of LW injection, which is widely used during the excavation of high-rise apartment buildings. In addition, it proved that by conducting field exploration and laboratory test the engineering ground reinforcement effect of LW injection in the ground has low coefficient of permeability. The environmentally friendly aspect was evaluated through an assessment of environmental impact. The results of laboratory test shows that LW coagulating material with SC type soil structure has significant improvement of uniaxial compressive strength, increasing by three times and the shear strength increasing by twice, coefficient of permeability decreasing six to seven times. And the result of environmental impact tests show that from 6 hour after where the pH increases until 7.96 to initially it diminished, it started and to 80 hour after it recovered a pH 7.25 initially with 7.30. The chemical composition analysis test result that unpolluted water and polluted water hydrogen ion concentration (pH) show that the unpolluted water pH 7.36, polluted water pH 7.85, which is inside the Ministry of Environment standard of drinking water (the pH 5.8~8.5). The assessment of environmental impact and chemical analysis test also demonstrate that the LW coagulating material is environmentally friendly. In the $Cr^{6+}$ and the salinity detection test, it was proven that the salinity is slight and the $Cr^{6+}$ is not detected.
