다공성 술폰화 폴리스티렌-디비닐벤젠 공중합체 분리막을 통한 유기산의 이동 (Transport of Organic Acids through Porous Sulfonated Polystyrene Divinylbenzene Copolymer Membranes)

  • 가교제의 양과 희석용매의 종류(톨루엔, 시클로헥산, 시클로-핵산올) 및 희석용매의 비에 따라 양이온 교환막인 술폰화 폴리스티렌-디비닐벤젠 공중합체 분리막을 합성한 후 특성화하고, pH와 초기농도의 변화에 따른 유기산 투과량의 변화를 고찰하였다. 제조한 막은 가교제의 양이 감소할수록, 단량체 용액의 희석정도가 클수록 함수율과 이온교환용량은 증가하는 경향을 보였다. 희석용매로는 시클로헥산올을 사용한 막이 다른 용매를 사용한 막에 비해 더욱 다공질이고 큰 함수율과 이온교환용량을 보였다. 유기산의 투과실험에서는 수용액상의 포름산, 아세트산과 같은 카르복시산은 pH가 pKa보다 낮아질수록 투과량이 증가하였으며, 아미노산인 L-알라닌은 등전점 pH에서 투과량의 최소치를 나태내었다. 한편, 모든 유기산에 대하여 초기농도 증가에 따른 플럭스의 변화는 전형적인 포화속도론적 경향을 나타내었다.

반응표면분석법을 이용한 Hydroxyapatite 첨가 활성탄에서의 Cd 흡착특성에 관한 연구 (Adsorption Characterization of Cd by Activated Carbon containing Hydroxyapatite using Response Surface Methodology (RSM))

  • Cadmium (Cd) adsorption onto the activated carbon containing hydroxyapatite (HAP) was investigated in batch experiments and response surface methodology (RSM) using the Box-Behnken methods were applied to the experimental results. Cd adsorption with different HAP mass ratio of from 10% to 30%. With more HAP, Cd was more adsorbed. These results suggest that the higher HAP mass causes an increase of the ion exchange potential of the HAP sorbent. Equilibrium experimental results from Cd adsorption was fitted to Langmuir and Freundlich isotherm models. Cd adsorption on HAP sorbent were found to follow the Freundlich isotherm model well in the initial adsorbate concentration range. Also, Cd adsorption was a function of the HAP mass ratio ($x_1$), initial Cd concentration ($x_2$), and initial pH ($x_3$) from the application of the RSM. Statistical results showed the order of significance of the independent variables to be initial Cd concentration > HAP mass ratio > initial pH.

A computer simulation of ion exchange membrane electrodialysis for concentration of seawater

  • The performance of an electrodialyzer for concentrating seawater is predicted by means of a computer simulation, which includes the following five steps; Step 1 mass transport; Step 2 current density distribution; Step 3 cell voltage; Step 4 NaCl concentration in a concentrated solution and energy consumption; Step 5 limiting current density. The program is developed on the basis of the following assumption; (1) Solution leakage and electric current leakage in an electrodialyzer are negligible. (2) Direct current electric resistance of a membrane includes the electric resistance of a boundary layer formed on the desalting surface of the membrane due to concentration polarization. (3) Frequency distribution of solution velocity ratio in desalting cells is equated by the normal distribution. (4) Current density i at x distant from the inlets of desalting cells is approximated by the quadratic equation. (5) Voltage difference between the electrodes at the entrance of desalting cells is equal to the value at the exits. (6) Limiting current density of an electrodialyzer is defined as average current density applied to an electrodialyzer when current density reaches the limit of an ion exchange membrane at the outlet of a desalting cell in which linear velocity and electrolyte concentration are the least. (7) Concentrated solutions are extracted from concentrating cells to the outside of the process. The validity of the computer simulation model is demonstrated by comparing the computed results with the performance of electrodialyzers operating in salt-manufacturing plants. The model makes it possible to discuss optimum specifications and operating conditions of a practical-scale electrodialyzer.

Electrochemical nitrate reduction using a cell divided by ion-exchange membrane

  • Electrochemical reduction of nitrate was studied using Zn, Cu and (Ir+Ru)-Ti cathodes and Pt/Ti anode in a cell divided by an ion exchange membrane. During electrolysis, effects of the different cathode types on operating parameters (i.e., voltage, temperature and pH), nitrate removal efficiency and by-products (i.e., nitrite and ammonia) formation were investigated. Ammonia oxidation rate in the presence of NaCl was also determined using the different ratios of hypochlorous acid to ammonia. The operating parameter values were similar for all types of cathode materials and were maintained relatively constant. Nitrate was well reduced and converted mostly to ammonia using Zn and Cu cathodes. Ammonia, produced as a by-product of nitrate reduction, was oxidized in the presence of NaCl in the electrochemical process and the oxidation performance was enhanced upon increasing the hypochlorous acid-to-ammonia ratio to 1.09:1. Zn and Cu cathodes promoted the nitrate reduction to ammonia and the produced ammonia was finally removed from solution by reacting with hypochlorite ions. Using Zn or Cu cathodes, instead of noble metal cathodes, in the electrochemical process can be an alternative technology for nitrate-containing wastewater treatment.

  • Electro-electrodialysis (EED) experiments were carried out for the HI concentration from HIx $(HI-H_2O-I_2)$ solution to improve the Hl decomposition reaction in the thermochemical water-splitting is (iodine-Sulfur) process. EED cell is composed of the collector electrode and electrolyte. Nafion 117 which was cation exchange membrane used as an electrolyte, and the activated carbon cloth used as an electrode. The HI concentration experiment was carried out using the HIx solution and molar ratio of the $I_2$ were varied from 1 to 3 mole. The cell voltages were decreased as temperature increase. And, membrane properties such as transport number of proton and electro-osmosis coefficient were decreased as temperature increase

다공성 폴리에틸렌 필름에 가교된 poly(vinylbenzyl ammonium chloride)를 충진한 전기투석용 음이온 교환 복합막의 제조 (Preparation of Anion Exchange Membranes for Electrodialysis by Impregnating Porous Polyethylene Films with Crosslinked Poly(vinylbenzyl ammonium chloride)s)

  • 지하수나 폐수 등에 포함된 독성을 가진 음이온류나 양이온류 등의 유독물질을 경제적으로 처리하는데 탁월한 분리기능을 가진 것으로 알려진 전기투석공정에 사용하기 위해 음이온 교환 복합막을 제조하여 그 전기화학적인 특성을 조사하였다. 다양한 조성의 vinylbenzylchloride (VBC)와 divinylbenzene (DVB) 그리고 ${\alpha},\;{\alpha}$-azobis(isobutyronitrile) (AIBN)으로 이루어진 단량체 용액에 다공성 지지체인 poly(ethylene) (PE)을 함침한 후 열중합 가교시켜 poly(VBC-DVB)/PE 복합막을 생성한 다음 trimethylamine(TMA)과 acetone을 이용해 음이온 교환기$(-N^+(CH_3)_3)$를 함유하는 복합막을 제조하였다. 음이온 교환막 제조시 VBC/DVB의 비율과 TMA/Acetone의 비율에 따른 막의 함수율, 이온교환용량(IEC) 및 전기저항을 조사하였다. 그 결과 제조된 막들은 사용된 PE지지체의 얇은 막두께에 기인하여 아스톰사의 상용화 음이온 교환막(AMX)보다 높은 IEC와 낮은 전기저항 및 낮은 함수율 등을 나타내는 것을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 실험에서 제조된 복합막은 저렴한 제조비용과 우수한 전기화학적 특성으로 정수 및 폐수처리를 위한 전기투석공정에 충분히 적용될 수 있음을 알 수 있었다.

  • 상전환 방법으로 제조된 음이온 성 Poly(his[4-(3-aminophenoxy)phenyl]sulfone pyromellite)imide(ACPI) 한외여과막의 순수 투과유속과 용질 배재도 측정치로 투과성능을 연구하였다. ACPI 한외여과막의 투과성능은 캐스팅 용액의 조성과 막 제조 및 측정조건에 영향을 받았다. Bovine serum albumin (BSA) 용액을 pH 2.5-9.0 상태에서 ACPI 한외여과 막의 상대투과유속과 membrane filtration index (MFI) 측정한 결과 BSA의 등전점에서 멀어 질수록 상대투과유속은 증가하고 막 오염정도를 나타내는 MFI는 감소하였다. 또한, 친수성인 ACPI 한외여과막의 이온교환용량(IEC)이 증가할수록 상대투과유속은 증가하고, MFI는 감소하였다.

  • 난백에 있는 40여 가지의 단백질의 기능적 특성에 대한 연구가 폭 넓게 진행되고 있지만, 그 특성이 모두 확인되지 않았다. 난백에서 순수하면서 변성되지 않은 단백질을 분리하는 방법을 연구하기 위해 본 연구에서는 난백 중 함량이 많은 lysozyme, ovotransferrin, ovalbumin을 분리했다. 난백에서 단백질을 다른 분리 방법보다 선택적으로 분리가 가능한 이온 교환 크로마토그래피를 이용했다. 그리고 분리된 단백질을 동정하기 위해서 Reversed-phase HPLC (RP-HPLC)를 사용했다. 이온 교환 크로마토그래피에서 HI Trap ion exchange cartridge (GE Healthcare, USA)를 사용했고, 그 중에서 양이온 교환 수지 SP (완충용액 pH 8.0, pH 5.2)와 음이온 교환 수지 Q (완충용액 pH 8.0)로 난백 단백질을 분리하였다. 분리한 난백 단백질들의 동정용 RP-HPLC에서는 C18 컬럼(Phenomenex, USA)을 사용했고 등용매 용리에서 이동상으로 acetonitrile (ACN)/distilled water (DW)/trifluoroacetic acid (TFA)의 부피비를 50/50/0.1로 사용했다. 이온 교환 크로마토그래피에 의해 각 단계에서 분리된 용출용액을 RP-HPLC으로 분석한 크로마토그램과 표준시료의 크로마토그램의 체류시간을 비교하여 난백에 포함된 ovotransferrin, ovalbumin, lysozyme이 순차적으로 용출됨을 알았다.

  • To find antitumor components in the hot water extract from the basidiocarps of Hypsizigus mamomus. protein-bound polysaccharides were purified and fractionated by DEAE-cellulose ion exchange column chromatography and Sepharose CL-4B gel filtration chromatography. When a dose of 20 mg/kg/day was injected intraperitoneally into ICR mice. fraction IV of the component showed the highest inhibition ratio of 73.8% against the count of hemolytic plaque forming cells in mice to 3.2 times. when IV was about 30 KD and the fraction was composed of 76.1% polysaccharide and 4.9% protein. The hexosamine was detected in all the fractions, showing that the polysaccharide and protein moieties were bound each other.

  • Redevelopment of the domestic small fishing ports is being started in earnest by applying the environmentally friendly technology in order to attract tourists. For the purpose of improving water quality in the harbor, selection of breakwater type might have the priority to secure calmness and stability. Therefore, this study is to determine the hydraulic characteristics of reflective ratio, installation efficiency and stability of the special type of blocks through the hydraulic model experiment. The results were introduced to analyze for the effect of infield construction work through numerical analysis. Gujora, a small fishing port in southern Korea, is affected by the waves of SSE, S, SSW direction and strong tidal currents. The results of applying cylindrical slit block show that stability of the blocks and harbor calmness were secured. Considering that the pass rate of a long period wave is still excellent, the primary objective of wave control and the secondary objective of improving water exchange are satisfied simultaneously.
