An adsorption chiller is expected to have high energy-efficiency in utilizing the waste heat exhausted from a process. The objective of this paper is to investigate the performance of silica gel-water adsorption chiller from the cycle simulation and to provide a guideline for design of the adsorption chiller. The effect of cycle time, inlet temperature and water flow rate on the cooling capacity and COP is quantified during the cycle operation. It is found that the performance of adsorption chiller is more sensitive to the change of inlet water temperature rather than the water flow rate. It is concluded that the COP is 0.57 in the standard conditions(hot water $80^{\circ}C$, cooling water $30^{\circ}C$, chilled water inlet temperatures $14^{\circ}C$ and cycle time 420sec).
The hydrologic cycle in urban catchment has been changed due to the expansion of impervious area by rapid urban development. In this study, the SWMM 5 (Storm Water Management Model 5) model was used to simulate the hydrologic cycle of the Dorimcheon catchment which suffers from the distorted hydrologic cycle as a typical urban catchment. This study compare continuous simulation of urban runoff combining the channel and sewer system with that of channel only in the Dorimcheon catchment. Continuous simulations of urban runoff were performed for the upstream basin of Dorim bridge. The urban impervious regions were processed by the land use analysis from LANDSAT_TM images. It was performed from 1975 to 2000 for every five years. Surface, groundwater and wastewater runoffs were additionally included in the simulations one at a time. Such simulations made it possible to evaluate those components quantitatively. The result of continuous simulation of urban runoff combining the channel and sewer system is that peak flow and recession are well simulated. The analysis results of urbanization effect on runoff are as follows: the surface runoff in 2000 increases to 64% of the whole precipitation whereas the surface runoff in 1975 amounts to 46% of the precipitation; the groundwater runoff in 2000 amounts to 6% and shows 8% decrease during the period from 1975 to 2000.
Nowadays, the discharges of urban streams during dry season are depleted because the hydrologic cycle in the watershed has been destroyed due to the expansion of the impermeable area, the excessive groundwater pumping, climate change, and so forth. The streamflow depletion may bring out severe water quality problems. This research are to investigate the hydrologic characteristics and to develop a technology to restore sound hydrologic cycle of Anyangcheon watershed. For the hydrological cycle analysis of the Anyangcheon watershed, continuous simulations of urban runoff were performed for the upstream basin of Gocheok bridge whose basin area covered 4/5 of the whole catchment area. The increase of impervious area by urbanization was analysed and its effect on urban runoff was evaluated. The SWMM 5 (Storm Water Management Model 5) was used for the continuous simulation of urban runoff. The analysis results of urbanization effect on runoff are as follows: the surface runoff in 2000 increases to 65% of the whole precipitation whereas the surface runoff in 1975 amounts to 50% of the precipitation; the groundwater runoff in 2000 amounts to 7% and shows 6% decrease during the period from 1975 to 2000.
This paper describes a computer simulation of the triple effect, water-lithium bromide absorption cooling cycles. The performance of the absorption systems is investigated through cycle simulation to obtain the system characteristics with the cooling water inlet temperature, the working solution concentrations, the ratio of the amount of the weak solution to the high, middle and low temperature generators, and the temperature difference of each solution heat exchanger. The efficiency of different cycles has been studied and the simulation results show that higher coefficient of performance could be obtained for the parallel cycle of constant solution distribution rate. As a result of this analysis, the optimum designs and operating conditions were determined based on the operating conditions and coefficient of performance.
Thermal cracks are cracks that commonly form at early ages in mass concrete. During the concrete pouring process, the elastic modulus changes continuously. This requires the time domain to be divided into several steps in order to solve for the temperature, stress, and displacement of the concrete. Numerical simulations of thermal crack propagation in concrete are more difficult at early ages. To solve this problem, this study divides crack propagation in concrete at early ages into two cases: the case in which cracks do not propagate but the elastic modulus of the concrete changes and the case in which cracks propagate at a certain time. This paper provides computational models for these two cases by integrating the characteristics of the extended finite element algorithm, compiles the corresponding computational programs, and verifies the accuracy of the proposed model using numerical comparisons. The model presented in this paper has the advantages of high computational accuracy and stable results in resolving thermal cracking and its propagation in concrete at early ages.
For the past few years, the concern for clean energy has been greatly increased. Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion(OTEC) power plants are studied as a viable option for the supply of clean energy. In this paper, the thermodynamic performance of OTEC cycle was examined. Computer simulation programs were developed under the same condition and various working fluids for closed Rankine cycle, regeneration cycle, Kalina cycle, open cycle and hybrid cycle. The results show that the regeneration cycle using R125 showed a 0.17 to 1.56% increase in energy efficiency, and simple Rankine cycle can generate electricity when the difference in warm and cold sea water inlet temperatures are greater than $15^{\circ}C$. Also, the cycle efficiency of OTEC power plant using the condenser effluent from nuclear power plant instead of the surface water increased about 2%.
In order to control of water quality in Jeju harbor, variation of physical oceanographic environments was estimated using material cycle model. It is composed of the three-dimensional hydrodynamic model for the simulation at water flow and material cycle model for the simulation of water quality. The three dimensional hydrodynamic model simulation of the circulation and mixing in Jeju Harbor has been conducted forced by Sanzi River Discharge, Tidal elevation, wind and Solar heat in case of August and November, 2000 and February and May, 2001, respectively. The results of numerical model and observation show that the model can produce realistic results of current in the harbor. The monthly variation of velocity pattern are not so much changed are found In Jeju Harbor. The residual current was forced by temperature, salinity, density, wind and tidal current. The residual current of August, 2000 are the strongest among four month. It can be explained that the density effect can be important role in residual current at Jeju Harbor. As the results of salinity distribution simulation, very low concentration of all levels were simulated in August, 2000. The flowrate of Sanzi river was investigated 77,760 ㎥ /d in August, 2000. Therefore, pollutant loadings from Sanzi river should be considered for water quality management in Jeiu harbor.
The linkage between climate change and water security, i.e., the response of water resource to the future climate change, have been of great concern to both scientific community and policy makers. In this study, the impact of future climate on water resources in Yellow River Basin in North of China has been investigated using the Coupled Land surface and Hydrology Model System (CLHMS) and IPCC AR5 projected future climate change in the basin. Firstly, the performances of 14 IPCC AR5 models in reproducing the observed precipitation and temperature in China, especially in North of China, have been evaluated, and it's suggested most climate models do show systematic bias compared with the observation, however, CNRM-CM5、HadCM5 and IPSL-CM5 model are generally the best models among those 14 models. Taking the daily projection results from the CNRM-CM5, along with the bias-correction technique, the response of water resources in Yellow river basin to the future climate change in different emission scenarios have been investigated. All the simulation results indicate a reduction in water resources. The current situation of water shortage since 1980s will keep continue, the water resources reduction varies between 28 and 23% for RCP 2.6 and 4.5 scenarios. RCP 8.5 scenario simulation shows a decrease of water resources in the early and mid 21th century, but after 2080, with the increase of rainfall, the extreme flood events tends to increase.

This paper presents a computer simulation of five types of triple effect absorption cycles employ-ing the refrigerant absorbent combinations of NH3/LiNO3 low-pressure type NH3/LiNO3+H2O/LiBr binary two-stage type series flow cycle and two types of parallel flow cycle for H2O/LiBr. The absorption systems is investigated through cycle simulation to obtain the system characteristics with the cooling water inlet temperature approach temperature of absorber loss temperature of absorber and chilled water outlet temperature. The most important characteristic temperature of absorber and chilled water outlet temperature. The most important characteristic of NH3/LiNO3 low-pressure type and a NH3/LINO3+H2O/LiBr binary two-stage type is that it obtains a coefficient of performance higher than the sum of the performance coefficients of its part operating independently. As a result of this analysis the optimum designs and operating conditions were determined based on the operating conditions and the coefficient of performance.
