  • In general, an absorption chiller or heat pump is operated under the constant cooling water flow rate condition even though the system works with a partial load. The objective of this paper is to study the effect of the cooling water flow rates and the temperature of cooling water on the system performance to find the energy saving methode for the partial load operation of the double effect $H_2O$/LiBr absorption chiller. It is found that the performance of the system is sensitive to the temperature of cooling water than the cooling water flow rate, so the decrease of the performance due to reducing the cooling water flow rate can be overcome with the reduction of the cooling water temperature by 1$^{\circ}C$. The flow rate of the cooling water flow rate ranges from 50% to 100% of the flow rate at normal conditions with a partial load. It is also found that the operation cost of the cooling water pump and the cooling tower can be reduced by 23%.

  • This research was done to clarify the cooling effect of water particles generated from a fountain. This effect is a one way to control the heat island effect of big cities. The result of this research was drawn by setting the jets of water in a certain height, and then studying the diffusion of water particles, which is affected by the size of the particles and the wind speed, and the cooling effect caused by the diffusion. 1) When a diameter of a water drop was 500 ${\mu}m$ and the wind speed was 2.0 to 6.0 m/sec, the water drop diffused 75 to 190m, and the water vapor spread over 175 to 440 m. As a result, there was more than $0.5^{\circ}C$ of cooling effect on the temperature in the atmosphere 130 to 330m around the water fountain. 2) When a diameter of a water drop was 750 ${\mu}m$ and the wind speed was 2.0 to 6.0 m/sec, the water drop diffused 65 to 150 m, and the water vapor spread over 160 to 405 m. Moreover, there was more than $0.5^{\circ}C$ of cooling effect on the temperature in the atmosphere 110 to 275 m around the water fountain. 3) After studying on the relationship between the diameter of water drop and the wind speed, and the diffusion of water particles and the range of the atmosphere that was cooled, a result could be drawn from the research that the smaller the diameter of the water vapor gets and the faster the wind speed becomes, the wider the water particles diffuse and the cooler the atmosphere around the fountain becomes. 4) This research further extrapolates that when the ordinary water(tap water, water from river and stream) is used in a fountain, the cooling effect of the air near the fountain can be approached similarly. If the seawater is used in a fountain, there is to be more to concern not only on cooling effect on the air, but also on other effects on surrounding environment generated by the salt in seawater.

  • Medicated water electrolysis apparatus, which electrolyzes water into acidic water and alkaline water, was in the spotlight as becoming known the effect of alkaline water. It is known as good for health as removing active oxygen in the human's body and promoting digestion. But, the customers could not get that desired water temperature because these apparatuses are directly connected with a water pipe. So, the cooling system was developed for controlling the temperature of the alkaline water. One of the typical way is to store water in water tank and control the temperature. But, in this way, storing water can be polluted impurities coming from outside. For protecting this pollution, the cooling system based on indirect heat exchange method through phase change between water and ice was developed. In this study, we have calculated efficiency of the cooling system with phase change by experiment and commercial CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics) code, ANSYS CFX. To consider the effect of latent heat that is generated by melting ice, we have simulated two phase numerical analyses used enthalpy method and found the temperature, velocity, and ice mass distribution for calculating the efficiency of cooling. From the results of numerical analysis, we have obtained the relationship between the cooling efficiency and each design factor.

  • The electric heat pump requiring HCFCs as a refrigerant has been for most residential air-conditioners in Korea. They cause a surge up electric power demand during summer. Moreover, the use of HCFCs and HFCs causes a serious problem to the global environment such as global warming and ozone layer destruction. An absorption chiller and heater could solve such problems. It was built and tested for analyzing the performance of the absorption chiller/heater. Experiment was done with a 1.5RT household absorption chiller and heater. It was experimented that the cooling capacity, gas capacity, COP were researched by the temperature of cooling water. The change of the cooling water temperature have effect the temperature(or pressure) of the parts on absorption chiller The result of the change of the cooling water temperature have the effects of the absorption chillers. This data will help to operate the household absorption chiller and heater.

  • In this study, we measured the power and temperature of the floating horizontal solar cell in a coastal lagoon and compared with those of ground solar cell and water platform solar cell. Because the bottom surface of the floating horizontal solar cell was contacting the water, cooling effect was expected stronger than other cells. As a result of the measurement, the power of floating horizontal cell was 11.7% higher than that of the ground cell and 15% higher than that of the water platform cell. During the measurement, it was observed that water waves were continuously flowed on the top surface of floating horizontal cell by the wind, and it could be assumed that the cooling effect occurred not only on the bottom surface of the cell but also on the top surface. In order to analyze the cooling effect and power increasing of the horizontal cell in the wave situation, we measured power and temperature of the cell while generating artificial waves in a laboratory equipped with Zenon lamp as a solar simulator. At the height of thewater surface, the power of the cell with waves was 3.7% higherthan without waves and temperature was 4.6℃ lower. At 1 cm and 2 cm below the watersurface, power of the cell with waves was decreased by 14% and 11% than without waves while temperature was same . At 3 cm below the water surface, there was no effect of waves.

  • To dissipate the heat generated from the switching devices in the inverter system of HEV, the water cooling structure is proposed. The bolt type cooling structure has a problem such as water leakage for high pressure of water, therefore the proposed cooling structure applied pipe structure in the heat sink. The heat dissipation characteristics for various structures of water channel and distance between heat source and water channel was analyzed through the simulation. heat dissipation effect for two types of water cooling structures was investigated. Based on the simulation results, two types of water cooling system for 30kW inverter system of HEV were manufactured and the heat dissipation effect was verified.

  • This study was to develop the most effective cooling system which is needed to cool greenhouse during summer night to get early blooming of strawberries. Various cooling systems were designed and constructed to utilize the cool air and water from tan abandoned coal mine. Cooling systems built for this study were an evaporative cooling system with pad, cooling system using a small or large radiator , and duct cooling system using cool are drawn from coal mine. These systems were individual tested to investigate their effects on cooling greenhouse during summer night. Also, a combined cooling system was tested with operating an evaporative cooling system, small radiator, and duct cooling system simultaneously. The results in this study showed that individual cooling systems such as evaporative cooling system, small radiator, and cooling duct had about the same effect on cooling greenhouse. The combined system had little better cooling effect than that of individual cooling syst m except the large radiator . The most effective system for cooling of greenhouse was obtained with using a large a large radiator as the heat exchanger. With operating a large radiator, temperature inside the greenhouse was dropped to about 15-16$^{\circ}C$ while outside temperature was 23-24$^{\circ}C$ during summer night.

  • Objectives: It was the aim of this study to evaluate the effect of cooling water temperature on the temperature changes in the pulp chamber and at the handpiece head during high-speed tooth preparation using an electric handpiece. Materials and Methods: Twenty-eight intact human molars received a standardized occlusal preparation for 60 seconds using a diamond bur in an electric handpiece, and one of four treatments were applied that varied in the temperature of cooling water applied (control, with no cooling water, $10^{\circ}C$, $23^{\circ}C$, and $35^{\circ}C$). The temperature changes in the pulp chamber and at the handpiece head were recorded using K-type thermocouples connected to a digital thermometer. Results: The average temperature changes within the pulp chamber and at the handpiece head during preparation increased substantially when no cooling water was applied ($6.8^{\circ}C$ and $11.0^{\circ}C$, respectively), but decreased significantly when cooling water was added. The most substantial drop in temperature occurred with $10^{\circ}C$ water ($-16.3^{\circ}C$ and $-10.2^{\circ}C$), but reductions were also seen at $23^{\circ}C$ ($-8.6^{\circ}C$ and $-4.9^{\circ}C$). With $35^{\circ}C$ cooling water, temperatures increased slightly, but still remained lower than the no cooling water group ($1.6^{\circ}C$ and $6.7^{\circ}C$). Conclusions: The temperature changes in the pulp chamber and at the handpiece head were above harmful thresholds when tooth preparation was performed without cooling water. However, cooling water of all temperatures prevented harmful critical temperature changes even though water at $35^{\circ}C$ raised temperatures slightly above baseline.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a computer model for simulating the water-lit hium bromide absorption heat transformer (AHT) Including all major components and to find the flexibility in operation. The effect of source hot water temperature, cooling water temperature, useful hot water flow rate, cooling water flow rate and evaporator circulation flow rate were investigated. The coefficient of performance (COP), temperature boost $({\Delta}T\;=\;T_A\;-\;Ti)$ and concentration variations can be predicted. The performance study indicates that the performance of AHT increases for the waste hot water temperature increasing and with a decrease of the cooling water temperature. The effect on performances of useful hot water flow rape is significant except on temperature boost. Also the effects on performance of cooling water flow rate and evaporator circulation flow rate are small. It is shown that the computer program is valuable to predict the performance of absorp-tion heat transformer units at various working corditions.
