  • This study aims at the estimation of a river management flow in urban basin analyzing Sinchun basin to be the tributary of Kumho river basin. The river management flow has to satisfy a low flow as natural flow and an environmental preservation flow estimated by a dilution flow to satisfy a target water quality in drought flow. Therefore for the estimation of a river management flow in Sinchun in this study, first Tank model as a basin runoff model estimates a low flow, a drought flow from a flow duration curve in Sinchun, second QUAL2E model as water quality model simulates water quality in Sinchun and estimates environmental preservation flow to satisfy a target water qua%its, BOD 8 mg/l by a dilution flow derived from Kumho river, Nakdong river and around water. And the river management flow is estimated by addition of a use flow and a loss flow to more flow between a low-flow and an environmental preservation flow.

  • Hydrological system forecasting, which is the short term runoff historical data during the limited period in dam site, is a conditional precedent of hydrological persistence by stochastic analysis. We have forecasted the monthly hydrological system from Andong dam basin data that is the rainfall, evaporation, and runoff, using the seasonal ARIMA (autoregressive integrated moving average) model. Also we have conducted long term runoff simulations through the forecasted results of TANK model and ARIMA+TANK model. The results of analysis have been concurred to the observation data, and it has been considered for application to possibility on the stochastic model for dam inflow forecasting. Thus, the method presented in this study suggests a help to water resource mid- and long-term strategy establishment to application for runoff simulations through the forecasting variables of hydrological time series on the relatively short holding runoff data in an object basins.

  • In this study, an externally reinforced structural system for SMC(Sheet Molding Compound) panel water tank, designed according to the Japanese design code, is experimented to evaluate its seismic performance. The test tank is 3m long, 2m wide and 3m high, considering the capacity and size of the shaking table. The measured hydrodynamic pressures are found to be approximately 70% of the Japanese design code values. It may be partially due to the convex shape effect of the unit panels. The analytical results of externally reinforced system based on the measured dynamic water pressures are found in good agreement with the test results. If the design hydrodynamic pressures are estimated properly, the proposed analytical model for the externally reinforced water tank becomes a useful design tool and the Japanese design code is found to provide a safe design for the external frames of SMC panel water tank.

  • The present study investigates the hydrodynamic force acting on the vertical wall of a portable water storage tank which has reentrant bottom topology. To numerically simulate the lapping waves in the tank, functional iterative method for the linearized Peregrine's model which numerically simulates the propagating waves over the slowly-sloped bottom topology is introduced. The numerical experiment condition is controlled to adjust the position and the height of the water supplying nozzle. Finally, it is observed that the maximum wave height at the vertical wall and the ratio of hydrodynamic force to hydrostatic one are amplified accordingly. Therefore it must be give attention to this bad effect of amplified hydrodynamic force by the supply method of fire water in order to have the structural stability of the portable water storage tank when it was used on the reentrant bottom topography.

  • In this study the flow curve estimation is discussed using TANK model which is one of hydrologic models. The main interest is the accuracy of TANK model parameter estimation with respect to the sampling frequency of input data. For doing this, input data with various sampling frequencies is used to estimate model parameters. As a result, in order to generate relatively accurate flow curve, it is recommendable to measure stream flow at least every 8 days.

  • Recent developments such as concern over global warming, depletion of fossil fuels and increase in energy demands by the increasing world population has eventually lead to mass production of electricity using renewable sources. Ocean contains energy in form of thermal energy and mechanical energy: thermal energy from solar radiation and mechanical energy from the waves and tides. The current paper looks at generating power using waves. The primary objective of the present study is to maximize the primary energy conversion (first stage conversion) of the base model by making some design changes. The model entire consisted of a numerical wave tank and the turbine section. The turbine section had three components; front guide nozzle, augmentation channel and the rear chamber. The augmentation channel further consisted of a front nozzle, rear nozzle and an internal fluid region representing the turbine housing. Different front guide nozzle configuration and rear chamber design were studied. As mentioned, a numerical wave tank was utilized to generate waves of desired properties and later the turbine section was integrated. The waves in the numerical wave tank were generated by a piston type wave maker which was located at the wave tank inlet. The inlet which was modeled as a plate wall which moved sinusoidally with the general function, $x=asin{\omega}t$. In addition to primary energy conversion, observation of flow characteristics, pressure and the velocity in the augmentation channel, rear chamber as well as the front guide nozzle are presented in the paper. The analysis was performed using the commercial code of the ANSYS-CFX. The base model recorded water power of 29.9 W. After making the changes, the best model obtained water power of 37.1 W which represents an increase of approximately 24% in water power and primary energy conversion.

  • To obtain thermal performance data, an experiment was performed with the two selected thermosyphon systems. The system parameters obtained by experimental data were used to perform TRNSYS simulation and verified TRNSYS model of thermosyphon solar hot water system. The thermosyphon solar hot water system was TYPE 145 which is modified from non-linear model. This model can describe heat exchange type and non-linear efficiency equation. It is possible to analyze the annual energy rate with efficiency equation and system specification. In this paper, we could compare the annual performance of the coil heat exchanger with that of the tank-in-tank heat exchanger. Under the same efficiency and parameter, heat exchange, drain, initial tank temperature, ratio of tank volume over collector area(V/Ac), regional annual performance rating were performed.

  • In the present study, the hydrodynamic force affected by a lapping wave induced by supplied falling water acting on the vertical wall of a portable water storage tank was analyzed using a nonlinear Peregrine model. The lapping wave's maximum run-up amplitudes and the hydrodynamic forces in the wall of the tank measured by linear and nonlinear Peregrine's models were compared numerically. As a result, it was concluded that the linear model may underestimate the effects on the vertical wall; therefore, it is more appropriate to use a nonlinear Peregrine model. Furthermore, this result can contribute to the stable structural designs of portable water storage tanks.

  • The propose of this study is improve the uncertainty of parameter choice of tank model by the trials and errors method. The real time prediction of parameter by using the Kalman filter is practiced to get the effective prediction algorithm of low flow runoff. Even though the total discharge of runoff through the orifice of each tank should be similar to the observed discharge, the tank model which can show the various basin characteristic is influenced by the runoff circumstances. As a result of the real-time estimation of the tank model parameter by the state-space type of Kalman filter, the variation of runoff circumstances is static when the convergence of observed value and estimated value keeps the ficed high point. The parameter of tank model which is estimated by Kalman filter shows good result for low flow and reasonable adaptability where flow change abruptly. The Kalman filter method is proved to give better result than Automatic structure estimation method.

  • Numerical model which can simulate the surge tank for unsteady flow was developed in the present study. Furthermore, reliability model which can calculate the probability of pipe breakage regarding unsteady effect was developed. For the risk estimation of pipe breakage and functional estimation of surge tank, probability of pipe breakage for pipe network with surge tank was calculated regarding unsteady effect. From the results, it was found that unsteady flow significantly increase the probability of pipe breakage and surge tank considerably decrease probability of pipe breakage as damping out the pressure oscillations.
