In order to analysis the degradation process of epoxy/glass fiber for outdoor condition, FRP laminate was exposed to high temperature and water. Then the degradation process was evaluated by comparing contact angle, surface potential decay, and surface resistivity. For the change of wettability, the contact angle of thermal-treated specimen with the high temperature of $200^{\circ}C$ increased. But that of water-treated specimen decreased. The characteristic of surface potential decay shows the tendency of the remarkable decrease on water-treated specimens, but increase on thermal-treated specimen compared with untreated one. Also, for the surface resistivity, it shows the same trend compared with the change of contact angle.
Cold water observed at sea surface near the southeastern coast of Korea in summers 1982 and 1983 was studied by using data of hydrography, sea level, wind and satellite image. In summer season when water column shows 3-layered structure a "full" upwelling occurs by southwesterly transient wind continuing for several days. During upwelling event, surface water of high temperature moved offshore, middle water of low temperature outcropped to the sea surface, and sea level was lowered, however, equilibrium depth of surface layer was not changed. It may be concluded that cold water at the surface originates from middle layer and strong surface front is a result of surfacing of seasonal thermocline. In order to see the relationship between position of surface front and wind input, a model of Csanady (1982) was applied in a rigid lid approximation. The results show that frontal position can be determined by wind input and water structure near the southeastern coast of Korea. Cold water in summer can appear at the sea surface only when there is wind larger than a minimum wind impulse of order $10m^2/sec$.

Temporal and spatial variations of surface water temperature in Jinju Bay for the period of 2010~2011 were studied using the data from temperature monitoring buoys deployed at 17 stations in the south coast of Korea. Water temperature shows the maximum late in January and the minimum early in August. Seasonal variation of water temperatures at the north part of the bay is smaller than the middle and the south. In summer, the lowest and the highest of maximum water temperature are distributed around Jijok Channel which is located at the south of the bay. The fluctuations of water temperatures at Noryang and Daebang Channel are smaller than others because of vertical mixing caused by passage of strong tidal currents. Wind and strong currents affect on the stratification of the surface water layer near Daebang Channel. High temperatures come in frequently around the north area when eastward constant flows appear at neap tide as blowing westerly in the springtime at Noryang Channel. Spectral analyses of temperature records show significant peaks at 7~20 day periods at Noryang Channel, 7~20 day and semidiurnal at the west coast of Changsun Island and Jijok Channel and 7~20 day and diurnal at the middle of the bay. Temperature fluctuation at Noryang Channel shows high coherence and has leading phase with those at other stations in the bay. However, the phase of temperature fluctuation at Noryang Channel falls behind that at Daebang Channel. Daebang Channel has an influence on the temperature fluctuation only at the west and middle part of the bay. Cross-correlation analyses for the temperature fluctuation show that Jinju Bay could be classified into six areas; Noryang Channel, the area of convergence and divergence at the north, Daebang Channel, the west coast of Changsun Island, the mixing area at the middle of the bay and the south inside of the bay, respectively.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to resolve the Naval ship's Local Operation Panel(LOP) malfunction problems which caused by overheating in summer season and dispatching to equatorial regions. Methods: Instead of using dual type heat insulation materials(consist with ceramic wool and glass wool), aerogel heat insulation materials were used for decreasing heat emissions from gas-turbine heat waste steam pipes passing water-jet- room. Experiment and Computational analysis of heat flow were conducted to analyze the internal room temperature changes. Results: The results of this study are as follows; The aerogel heat insulation materials suppress heat emission more efficiently than dual type insulation materials. The cold surface temperature of insulation was far more decreased and internal room, LOP surface temperature also showed significant results too. Conclusion: The substituted heat insulation materials appeared remarkable performance in decreasing room temperature that it could be used for suppressing the LOP overheatings and malfunctions.

In this study, a study was conducted to develop a system for predicting/responding to black ice occurring on roads in winter. Tests conditions were studied by making models of cement concrete pavement and asphalt concrete pavement. In order to freeze water on the manufactured model package, an tests was conducted at a temperature below zero using a freezer, and the freezing process was photographed using a thermal imaging camera. Black ice is generated when water is present on the road surface and the temperature is below freezing or the road surface temperature is below the dew point temperature. Under sub-zero conditions, the pavement, water, and ice were classified with a thermal imaging camera. As a result of the tests, it was possible to distinguish with a thermal imaging camera at a temperature below freezing in the same freezer due to the difference in the emissivity of the packaging, water, and ice. In the process of changing from water to ice during the tests, it was analyzed that ice and water were clearly distinguished by the thermal imaging camera due to the difference in emissivity and reflectance, so black ice could be predicted using the thermal imaging camera.
A grid-based configuration of Land Surface Models (LSMs) coupled with a climate model can be advantageous in impact assessment of climate change for a large scale area. We assessed the applicability of Common Land Model (CoLM) to runoff and land surface temperature (LST) simulations at the domain that encompasses the Nakdong river basin. To establish a high resolution model configuration of a $1km{\times}1km$ grid size, both surface boundary condition and atmospheric inputs from the observed weather data in 2009 were adjusted to the same resolution. The Leaf Area Index (LAI) was collected from MODerate esolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) and the downward short wave flux was produced by a nonstationary multi-site weather state model. Compared with the observed runoffs at the stations on Nakdong river, simulated runoffs properly responded to rainfall. The spatial features and the seasonal variations of the domain fairly well were captured in the simulated LSTs as well. The monthly and seasonal trend of LST were described well compared to the observations, however, the monthly averaged simulated LST exceeded the observed up to $2^{\circ}C$ at the 24 stations. From the results of our study, it is shown that high resolution LSMs can be used to evaluate not only quantity but also quality of water resources as it can capture the geographical features of the area of interest and its rainfall-runoff response.
In Ocean, the temperature of the deep sea water is always lower than that of the surface sea water. The temperature difference between the surface water and deep sea water is about $20^{\circ}C$. Based on thermodynamics, this temperature difference can be converted into mechanical power. The mechanical power can be converted to electricity through a generator. However, the temperature difference is relatively small compared with that of traditional steam turbines. It is difficult to apply the steam turbine technology for this small temperature difference directly. Therefore, the turbine for OTEC system using low temperature difference should be designed to meet the system requirement. The present study focuses on the development of the turbine for 20 kW OTEC system using R32. The paper includes the determination of working fluids, meridional design, turbine layout and 3D CFD results. With off-design points analysis, the full performance of 20kW OTEC turbine is investigated. Through the research, one stage radial type turbine with R32 as working fluid is successfully developed and can be applied to other high temperature heat source.

Metal surface temperatures around the combustion chamber in a gasoline engine directly affect thermal durability and performance of the engine. Metal surface temperatures are influenced by many cooling factors such as drilled water passage, deflector, combustion chamber wall thickness, pillar, and coolant flow pattern. The object of this study is to learn how the coolant passages and coolant flow pattern in an engine influence to the engine metal surface temperature at engine full load and speed. From the test result, it is suggested a plan to reinforce the engine stiffness and to reduce the thermal stress simultaneously. Also, approaches are introduced to reduce the thermal load on the engine by adjusting the discharging direction from the water pump and by optimizing the water transfer holes in the cylinder head gasket. These methods and the optimized engine cooling system, which were suggested in this paper, were adapted for an engine in progress to eliminate the exhaust valve seat wear.
Based on surface energy balance climatology, surface temperatures should respond to drying conditions well before plant response. To test this hypothesis, land surface temperatures (LST) derived from MODIS data were analyzed to determine how the data were correlated with climatic water balance variables and NDVI anomalies during a growing season in Western and Central Kansas. Daily MODIS data were integrated into weekly composites so that each composite data set included the maximum temperature recorded at each pixel during each composite period. Time-integrated, or cumulative values of the LST deviation standardized with mean air temperatures had significantly high correlation coefficients with SM, AE/PE, and MD/PE, ranging from 0.65 to 0.89. The Standardized Thermal Index (STI) is proposed in this study to accomplish the objective. The STI, based on surface temperatures standardized with observed mean air temperatures, had significant temporal relationships with the hydroclimatological factors. STI classes in all the composite periods also had a strong correlation with NDVI declines during a drought episode. Results showed that, based on LST, air temperature observations, and water budget analysis, NDVI declines below normal could be predicted as early as 8 weeks in advance in this study area.
In the rapid changes of the semiconductor manufacturing technologies for early 21st century, it may be safely said that a kernel of terms is the size increase of Si wafer and the size decrease of semiconductor devices. As the size of Si wafers increases and semiconductor device is miniaturized, the units of cleaning processes increase. A present cleaning technology is based upon RCA cleaning which consumes vast chemicals and ultra pure water (UPW) and is the high temperature process. Therefore, this technology gives rise to environmental issue. To resolve this matter, candidates of advanced cleaning processes have been studied. One of them is to apply the electrolyzed water. In this work, electrolyzed water cleaning was compared with various chemical cleaning, using Si wafer surfaces by changing cleaning temperature and cleaning time, and especially, concentrating upon the contact angle. It was observed that contact angle on surface treated with Electrolyzed water cleaning was $4.4^{\circ}$ without RCA cleaning. Amine series additive of high pKa (negative logarithm of the acidity constant) was used to observe the property changes of cathode water.
