Dynamics model of the float-type wave energy converter considering tension force of the float cable

  • We have developed the novel device that can extract energy from ocean waves utilizing the heaving motion of a floating mass. The major components of the energy converter are: a floater, a counterweight, a cable, a driving pulley, two idler pulleys, a ratchet, and a generator. The device generates power through the tension force in the cable and the weight difference between the floater and the counterweight. When the system is at static free condition, the tension in the cable is equal to the weight of the counterweight which is minimum. Therefore it is desirable to keep the counterweight lighter than the floater. However, experiments show that during the rise of the water level, the torque generated by weight of the counterweight is insufficient to rotate the driving pulley which causes the cable on the floater side to slack. The proposed application of the tension pulley rectifies these problems by preventing the cable from becoming slack when the water level rises. In this paper, the dynamics model is modified to incorporate the dynamics of the tension pulley. This has been achieved by first writing the dynamical equations for the tension pulley and the energy converter separately and combining them later. This paper investigates numerically the effect of the tension pulley on various physical quantities such as the cable tension, the floater displacement, and the floater velocity. Results obtained indicate that this application is successful in suppressing large fluctuations of the cable tension.

플라스틱 V-벨트 풀리 설계 및 시작품 제작에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Product Design and Prototype Manufacturing of a Plastic V-Belt Pulley)

  • In this study, product design and prototype manufacturing of a plastic water-pump pulley has been tried. The designed model is supposed to be made of 33 % glass reinforced resin of which the tensile strength is 180 MPa, and has 24 ribs on each side to increase its structural strength. Structural analysis under a static load of 300 kgf acting on both edges of the belt has been carried out using a commercial finite element code, MARC. The analysis result showed the maximum effective stress near a rib of designed model would be at most 35 MPa (less than 20% of the tensile strength), therefore, the plastic product would be sufficiently safe under that loading condition. On the basis of the structural analysis, a prototype of the designed model has been manufactured by using the fused deposition modelling (FDM) method which is one of the rapid prototyping (RP) methods, using ABS resin and support materials. The CAD data exported to the RP system in STL format was prepared by a commercial solid modeling software, SolidWorks. It has been proved that the plastic pulley can successfully replace the existing flow-formed steel product.

수차 모형 배열을 이용한 표적추정 (Focused) 빔형성기 성능분석 (Analysis of Performance of Focused Beamformer Using Water Pulley Model Array)

  • 본 논문은 수중환경에서 비교적 근거리에 위치해 있는 목표물에서 방사되는 광대역 음원신호를 취득하여 목표물의 위치를 탐지하기 위한 표적추정 (Focused) 빔 형성 기법을 제안한다. 표적추정 (Focused) 빔 형성기 기법은 배열 센서를 사용하여 구면파 형태로 입사되는 방사 신호들의 각 센서로의 상이한 전달 지연 시간 성분들을 고려하여 센서 출력 신호들을 일정 시간 구간 동안 코히어런트하게 합해 줌으로써 목표물의 위치를 판단하게 된다. 이때 견인함의 이동에 의해 배열 센서의 형태가 시간적으로 변화하게 되며, 가상의 셀들로 분리된 이미지 공간상에서 각 셀과 배열 센서간의 기하학적인 구조 분석에 의해 계산된 시간 지연 값들을 이용하여 표적추정(Focused) 빔 형성 과정을 거친 최종적인 3차원 빔 패턴 출력을 얻게 된다. 본 논문에서는 컴퓨터 시뮬레이션을 통하여 N차 다항식 (polynomial) 근사법을 이용한 실제 수차 모형 배열 형태 추정을 하였으며 생성된 가상의 수차 모형 배열을 이용하여 각각의 주파수 대역에 따른 광대역 목표물에 대한 추정 성능을 분석하여 보았다.

  • 신호 대 잡음비가 매우 낮은 수중 음원을 탐지하기 위해서는 많은 센서를 갖는 견인 배열 시스템을 운용하여야 한다. 그러나 이러한 경우 수백 미터에 이르는 배열을 견인함이 끌고 다닐 때 파도와 같은 해수면의 움직임과 견인선의 기동 형태에 따라 원하는 배열 형태를 항상 유지할 수 없다. 그러므로 본 논문에서는 실제 수 중 환경에서 견인되는 배열의 왜곡된 형태를 시간적으로 뿐만 아니라 공간적으로 통합된 센서의 움직임 근거로 한 상관 형태를 잘 표현한 ""Paidoussis"" 방정식을적용하여 이 방정식의 간단화된 형태인 수차 모형(Water pulley)배열을 협대역 목표물 탐지에 이용하였다. [1][2][8] 수차 모형 구조의 배열을 이용하여 사상 기법을 적용하면 수차 모형의 왜곡 특성으로 인해 센서간 간격이 비균일성을 가지는 가상의 선형 배열이 형성되어 진다. 본 논문에서는 사상 기법에 의해 생성된 가상의 선형 배열을 토대로 합성 어패처 방식의 일종인 FFTSA(Fast Fourier Transform Synthetic Aperture) 기법을 이용하여 센서 배열의 입사각 추정 성능에 중대한 영향을 부여하는 코히어런스 주기에 따른 추정 성능의 변화 및 견인함의 이동 경로 변화에 따른 변동 경로 주기에 따른 성능 변화를 분석하였다.

  • In this study, a parametric study is performed to investigate the squeal noise of an automobile water pump. The squeal noise studied in this paper is generated by the self-excited torsional resonance of the rotating shaft, and this noise is related to the stick-slip phenomenon of the mechanical seal in the water pump. The mechanical seal friction has the characteristics of the negative velocity-gradient. The equations of motion of multiple-degree-of-freedom torsional vibration model is constructed by the Holzer's method and then the equation is transformed to an equivalent single-degree-of-freedom torsional resonance simulation model. A squeal noise criteria is determined by the simulation model to perform the parametric study. The design parameters(the mass moment of inertia of the pulley, the mass moment of inertia of the impeller, the length of the shafts, the radius of the shafts, spinning speed of the shafts, the position of the mechanical seal, radius of the mechanical seal, and normal load of the mechanical seal) are investigated to confirm the stability for the squeal noise.

  • The authors are developing a motion of floater body type wave energy converter of the float-counterweight system. This consists of the driving pulley, wire, float and counterweight suspended from idler pulleys and rachet mechanism. Though it has succeeded in solving the major structural strength problem in which the floats would slam against adjacent structure(s) by wave load acting horizontally. In order to overcome this problem. We propose a new system in which the wire transmitting the power is wound around the pulleys and the float receiving the wave power is pulled by the wire from both its upper and lower ends to avoid the occurrence of slackening during the wave cycle. In the paper, we developed the dynamics model for the proposed system. Energy gain has been calculated for realistic wave conditions and compared with the original float-counterweight device. The important differences from the float-counterweight system are that (1) both upward and downward motions of water surface can be utilized without problem. (2) slackening of energy gain and wire tension are effectively suppressed, and (4) for the same time averaged energy gain, the maximum wire tension is fairly lowered.
