Passive negative stiffness dampers (NSDs) that possess superior energy dissipation abilities, have been proved to be more efficient than commonly adopted passive viscous dampers in controlling stay cable vibrations. Recently, inertial mass dampers (IMDs) have attracted extensive attentions since their properties are similar to NSDs. It has been theoretically predicted that superior supplemental damping can be generated for a taut cable with an IMD. This paper aims to theoretically investigate the impact of the cable sag on the efficiency of an IMD in controlling stay cable vibrations, and experimentally validate superior vibration mitigation performance of the IMD. Both the numerical and asymptotic solutions were obtained for an inclined sag cable with an IMD installed close to the cable end. Based on the asymptotic solution, the cable attainable maximum modal damping ratio and the corresponding optimal damping coefficient of the IMD were derived for a given inertial mass. An electromagnetic IMD (EIMD) with adjustable inertial mass was developed to investigate the effects of inertial mass and cable sag on the vibration mitigation performance of two model cables with different sags through series of first modal free vibration tests. The results show that the sag generally reduces the attainable first modal damping ratio of the cable with a passive viscous damper, while tends to increase the cable maximum attainable modal damping ratio provided by the IMD. The cable sag also decreases the optimum damping coefficient of the IMD when the inertial mass is less than its optimal value. The theoretically predicted first modal damping ratio of the cable with an IMD, taking into account the sag generally, agrees well with that identified from experimental results, while it will be significantly overestimated with a taut-cable model, especially for the cable with large sag.

The performance of heat exchanger using oscillating heat pipe (OHP) for low temperature waste heat recovery was evaluated. OHP used in this study was made from low finned copper tubes connected by many turns to become the closed loop of serpentine structure. The OHP heat exchanger was formed into shell and tube type. R-22 and R-141b were used as the working fluids of OHP with a fill ratio of 40 vol.%. Water was used as the working fluid of shell side. As the experimental parameters, the inlet temperature difference between heating and cooling water and the mass velocity of water were changed. The mass velocity of water was changed from 30 kg/$m^2$s to 92 kg/$m^2$s. The experimental results showed that the heat recovery rate linearly increased as the mass velocity and the inlet temperature difference of water increased. Finally, the performance of OHP heat exchanger was evaluated by $\varepsilon$-NTU method. It was found that the effectiveness would be 80% if NTU were about 1.5.

Heat and mass transfer rates to spray water droplets for spray transients in a high pressure vessel have been predicted by two different droplet models: the complete mixing model and the non-mixing model. In this process, the ambient fluid surrounding the droplets is a real-gas mixture composed of saturated steam and noncondensable hydrogen gas at high pressure. The physical properties of the mixture are estimated by applying the concept of compressibility factor and using appropriate correlations. A computer program, DROPHMT, to calculate the heat and mass transfer rates for two different droplet models has been developed. As an illustrative application of the computer program to engineering practices, heat and mass transfer rates to spray water droplets for spray transients in a Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) pressurizer have been calculated, and the typical results have been provided.
We made simultaneous surveys of 22 GHz water and 44 / 95 GHz methanol masers toward 299 high-mass protostellar objects using the Korea VLBI Network (KVN) 21-m telescope. The sources were selected from the catalog of Red MSX Source (RMS) survey. Initial selection of the sample present high-mass protostellar objects in an evolutionary phase prior to ultra-compact HII regions, which have bolometric luminosities > $10^3L_{\odot}$ but are not associated with any radio continuum emission. After the follow-up work of ongoing RMS survey, final samples contains 56 sources classified as HII regions. We performed a simultaneous survey of 22 GHz water and 44 GHz methanol masers in 2011 and then conducted a simultaneous survey of 22 GHz water and 44 / 95 GHz methanol masers in 2012. The primary scientific goals of these surveys are to investigate the relationship among the three masers and to explore the relationship between each maser and the central star or the parental dense core. The detection rates of two epochs are 42% and 38% for water, 25% and 26% for 44 GHz methanol, and 23% (2012 only) for 95 GHz methanol masers. We performed a statistical analysis on subsample associated with a large data found in literature. In this poster, we will the preliminary data analysis results and discuss the implications.

For an accurate measurement of aerosol particle size distribution using a differential mobility analyser (DMA), a new calculation process, capable of predicting the masses for the various kinds of water cluster ions generated from a bipolar ionizer, was prepared by improving the previous process. The masses for the 5 kinds of positive and negative water cluster ions produced from a SMAC ionizer were predicted by the improved calculation process. The aerosol particle charging ratios calculated by applying the predicted ion masses to particle charging equations were in good accordance with the experimentally measured ones, indicating that the improved calculation process are more reasonable than the previous one in a mass prediction of bipolar water cluster ions.
Nowadays, adsorption chillers have been receiving considerable attentions as they are energy-saving and environmental1y benign systems. A Fin & tube type heat exchanger in which adsorption/desorption take place is required more compact size. The adsorption chiller is expected to have high energy-efficiency in utilizing the waste heat exhausted from a process. The objectives of this paper are to investigate the effect of fin pitch of fin & tube on the adsorption performance and to develop an optimal design fin & tube heat exchanger in the silica gel/water adsorption chiller. Previous study concluded that optimal particle size selected 0.5mm, type HO silica gel, and fundamental heat transfer & mass transfer experiments carried out. From the numerical results, the adsorption rate for the fin pitch 2.5mm is the highest than that for the fin pitch 5mm, 7.5mm and 10mm. Also cooling water & hot water temperature affect the adsorption rate.
The experiment of performance about closed-wet cooling tower(CWCT) was conducted in this study. The test section has the cooling water that flows from top part of a heat exchanger that has an entrance of cooling water with one and multi path. The heat exchanger consists of 15.88mm tubes with ten rows and ten columns and staggered arrangement. In this experiment, heat and mass transfer coefficients and range are calculated with variations of cooling water and path. The results indicated that operating CWCT using two path have the high values of heat and mass transfer coefficients and range than one path.
In this study we verified if the electro-coagulation process can treat properly the nitrate and fluoride that are not removed well in the conventional small water treatment plants which usually employ chlorination and filtration only. As we gave a change of electrode material and gap-distance between electrodes, removal efficiency of the nitrate and fluoride was determined by electro-coagulation process which were equipped with aluminum and stainless steel (SUS304) electrodes. In addition, electrode durability was investigated by determination of electrodes mass change during the repetitive experiments. Removal efficiency was great when aluminum was used as an anode material. Nitrate removals increased as electric density and number of electrodes increased, but fluoride removal was less sensitive to both parameters than nitrate. After 10 minutes of contact time with the current density from $1{\times}10^{-3}$ to $3{\times}10^{-3}A/cm^{2}$, nitrate and fluoride concentration ranged from 9.2 to 1.2mg/L and from 0.02 to 0.01mg/L, which satisfied the regulation limits. Regardless of the repeating number of experiments, removal efficiency of both ions were almost similar and the change of electrode mass ranged within ${\pm}$0.5%, indicating that the loss of the electrode mass is not so much great under the limited circumstances.

An experimental study on the performance evaluation of a brazed plate heat-exchanger with 10RT of normal cooling capacity has been carried out. In the present study, a brazed type plate heat exchanger was tested at a chevron angle $25^{\circ}$ with refrigerant R-22. Mass flux was ranged from $23\;to\;58kg/m^{2}s$ in condensation, and from $22\;to\;53kg/m^{2}s$ in evaporation. The heat transfer coefficient and pressure drop increased with the mass flux increases. The water side pressure drop increased with the cooling water flow rate and chilled water flow rate increases, while mass flux has little affect. It is also shown that the system performance can be improved by enlarging condensation heat transfer area.
