A shallow high-resolution seismic reflection survey was carried out at the Mineopo tidal flat on the western coast of Korea. The purpose of the survey was to investigate shallow sedimentary structure of the tidal flat associated with the recent sea level change. A total of 795 shots were generated at 1 m interval from a 5-kg hammer source and recorded on 48 channels of 100 Hz geophones along two mutually perpendicular profiles. The water-saturated ground condition resulted in suppressed ground rolls by significantly decreasing rigidity. In addition, seismic velocities over 1500 m/s provided easy segregation of reflected arrivals from lower velocity noise. As a consequence, seismic sections from the study area show significantly higher resolution and signal to noise ratio than conventional land seismic sections. The tidal flat consists of 5 sedimentary sequences above acoustic basement. The seismic sections reveal the continuous structure of the tidal flat formed in association with sea level rise during the Holocene.
Aconiti tuber butanol fraction, which is isolated from the chloroform insoluble and water soluble extract of Aconitum volubile, has been recently known to have a potent positive inotropic effect in the isolated cardiac muscle preparations of various animals. The positive inotropic mechanism of Aconiti tuber butanol fraction, in relation with the external calcium, was studied using the isolated cat papillary muscle. The positive inotropic effect was dependent on the calcium concentration in the nutrient medium, and a synergistic relation could be demonstrated between Aconiti tuber butanol fraction and the external calcium. The inotropic effect of $10^{-4}g/ml$ of Aconiti tuber butanol fraction was equivalent to that of 0.06mM of calcium in the medium. After the treatment with a calcium influx inhibitor, Verapamil$(2{\pm}10^{-7}-10^{-6}M)$, the contractile force of the papillary muscle was markedly inhibited. In these preparations, Aconiti tuber butanol fraction restored the decreased contractility in a dose-dependent manner. It was suggested that the positive inotropic effect of Aconiti tuber butanol fraction might be related with the stimulating action on the calcium influx through the slow inward calcium channels in the cardiac cell membrane. In contrast with digitalis cardiac glycoside, Aconiti tuber butanol fraction infused intravenously into the anesthetized rabbit decreased the systemic arterial blood pressure and increased the carotid blood flow, but produced no prominent changes in the heart rate.

Bathymetric changes were studied in the southern sea off the Jinwoo-do Island, which is one of the deltaic barrier islands surrounding the Nakddong river estuary. In this study, 16 bathymetry data sets were obtained from June 2006 to April 2015. Two narrow channels, the one lying between Jinwoo-do and Shinja-do, and the other one lying between Nulcha-do and Jinwoo-do extended into the eastern and western parts of the study area, respectively. The eastern extension of the channel contained a passage of mixed estuarine waters of seawater and river water discharged from the Nakdong river barrier and the west Nakdong River. The western channel connected the Nakdong River estuary with the Busan New Port via a connecting pier. Total volumetric changes of sediments in study area and discharge flow of the Nakdong river barrier were analyzed. Bottom topographical changes occurred mainly in the eastern extension of the channel. These changes were initially characterized by gradual erosion or deposition followed by rapid restoration. The total volume of sediment gradually increased from June 2006 to March 2013, but experienced a sudden decrease in October 2013 because of typhoon Danas. Few fluctuations were observed from October 2013 to April 2015. Analysis of the cross-sectional bathymetry of the north-south direction showed that the deepest point of the eastern channel moved 100-130 m westward and 200 m northward between June 2006 and April 2015.
This study was carried out to examine the drift of Gammarus sobaegensis by acid stress as pH depression in Oweol creek from April 1996 to October 1996. The behavioral drifting was revealed to the characteristics of G. sobaegensis that is tend to increase as acid stress. And, tolerance level of G. sobaegensis to pH depression was different among the size classes. Individuals belong to small to medium size classes were weak in lower pH. Pattern of response in G. sobaegensis has a lower tolerance to acid stress at below pH 4.0 than above pH 5.0 in the artificial channel and show the possibility as an effective aquatic ecotoxicity test organism. The result of analysis of variance, water temperature (F-ratio : 66.596, p< 0.0005) and the size classes (F-ratio : 71.386, p< 0.0005) except pH level (F-ratio : 353.415, p<0.0005) were showed to the major factor for drift behavior by acid depression. Debris flow is one of the most hazardous natural processes in mountainous regions. The degradation of discharge capacity of drainage facilities due to debris flows may result in damages of properties and casualty as well as road. Understanding and accurate reproducing flow behaviour of debris flows at various conditions, such as sediment volume concentration and approaching channel and culvert slopes, are prerequisite to develop advanced design criteria for drainage facilities to prevent such damages. We carried out a series of laboratory experiments of debris flows in a rectangular channel of constant width with an abrupt change of bottom slope. The experimental flume consists of an approaching channel part with the bed slope ranging $15^{\circ}$ to $30^{\circ}$ and the test channel with slope ranging from $0^{\circ}$ to $12^{\circ}$ which mimics a typical drainage culvert. The experiments have been conducted for 22 test cases with various flow conditions of channel slopes and sediment volume concentration of debris flows to investigate those effects on the behaviour of debris flows. The results show that, according to sediment volume concentration, the depth of debris flow is approximately 50% to 150% larger than that of fresh water flow at the same flow rate. Experimental results quantitatively present that flow behaviour and deposit history of debris flows in the culvert depend on the slopes of the approaching and drainage channels and sediment volume concentration. Based on the experimental results, furthermore, a logistic model is developed to find the optimized culvert slope which prevents the debris flow from depositing in the culvert.
To predict changes in the marine environment of the Beolgyo Stream Estuary in Jeonnam Province, South Korea, where cohesive tidal flats cover a broad area and a large bridge is under construction, this study conducted numerical simulations involving tidal flow and cohesive sediment transport. A wetting and drying (WAD) technique for tidal flats from the Princeton Ocean Model (POM) was applied to a large-scale-grid hydrodynamic module capable of evaluating the flow resistance of structures. Derivation of the eddy viscosity coefficient for wakes created by structures was accomplished through the explicit use of shear velocity and Chezy's average velocity. Furthermore, various field observations, including of tide, tidal flow, suspended sediment concentrations, bottom sediments, and water depth, were performed to verify the model and obtain input data for it. In particular, geologic parameters related to the evaluation of settling velocity and critical shear stresses for erosion and deposition were observed, and numerical tests for the representation of suspended sediment concentrations were performed to determine proper values for the empirical coefficients in the sediment transport module. According to the simulation results, the velocity variation was particularly prominent around the piers in the tidal channel. Erosion occurred mainly along the tidal channels near the piers, where bridge structures reduced the flow cross section, creating strong flow. In contrast, in the rear area of the structure, where the flow was relatively weak due to the formation of eddies, deposition and moderated erosion were predicted. In estuaries and coastal waters, changes in the flow environment caused by artificial structures can produce changes in the sedimentary environment, which in turn can affect the local marine ecosystem. The numerical model proposed in this study will enable systematic prediction of changes to flow and sedimentary environments caused by the construction of artificial structures.

The studies were carried out to find the cause and the quantitative evaluation of sea dike materials loss which is occured during the period of construction works for the tideland reclamation projects on the west coast of Korea. Major subjects to studies were to establish the typical relationships between the tidal flow and the movement of dike materials, the tidal-flow and the erosion, the dike materials and the ratio of material movement(losses), construction methods and the ratio of materials movement (losses). Based on the above subjects, the studies were made for the purpose of obtain the following informations; (1) Collecting and evaluaing the data of dike material losses due to foundation settlement, from designed existing dikes on the west coast. (2) By the field investigation at A-San Sea Dike, Pyong Taek Project, the Comparison would be made by the relationships between the tide velocity and the movement of dike foundation under the natural conditions and the period of construction so that find out the relationship between the dike materials of foundation situation and settlements. With regard to the dike construction works, it is so difficult to calculate the exact quantity of material losses due to the foundation settlements. The major factors that affect the settlement losses of the dike materials are: (1) Topographical variation (2) Swepting the sectional area of dike by the tide velocity. (3) Dumping riprap to the outerside of dike during the period of construction works. (4) Sectional area losses by the cause of occurence of the new tide channels. (5) material losses by the heavy storms. (6) Consolidation settlement by the foundation weakness. (7) Material losses by the earth materials by tide flow. Most hi호 material losses were occured by the Consolidation settlement due to the foundation weakness, the maximum tide velocities due to decrease the cross sectional area of the gaps and erosion of foundation due to the range of tide, Inner and outerside of dike, or dike material loses due to the tide flow. Final conclusion would be obtained by the continuous measurement of consolidation settlement at the stage of final clusure of the dike. (It is scheduled to close on the end of 1972) However, intermediate conclusion can be introduced as follows: (1) The estimation of material(losses) during the period of construction works for the existing sea-dikes up to date were only empirical. The material losses at the general closure for design was estimated at 10% of the riprap, 20% of the earth materials, and 20% of the riprap, 40% of the earth materials at the final closure of the dike. The final closure estimated double quantity to the general closure, but it is still doubt. (2) The ratio of consolidation settlements was found smaller than the calculated quantity. It can be foreseen that settlement speeds is higher thom the calculated speeds. (3) The movement of dike foundation under the natural conditions were not so depends on the geological conditions of the foundation. (4) When the tide velocities was estimated 100 at the normal tide, it was estimated 125 at the high tide and 55 at the low tide. The tide velocities at the low tide shows apparently lower than the high tide and the higher velocities at the deep water depth.

In the present study, vasorelaxant effect of the extract of seeds of Oenothera odorata (SOO) and its possible mechanism responsible for this effect were examined in vascular tissues isolated from rats. Changes in vascular tension, 3',5'-cyclic monophosphate (cGMP) levels were measured in thoracic aorta rings from rats. Methanol extract of seeds of Oenothera odorata relaxed endothelium-intact thoracic aorta in a dose-dependent manner. A dose-dependent vascular relaxation was also revealed by treatment of ethylacetate, n-butanol, and H2O (aqua extract of seeds of Oenothera odorata , ASOO) extracts partitioned from methanol, but not by hexane extract. However, the vascular relaxation induced by ASOO were abolished by removal of endothelium of aortic tissues. Pretreatment of the endothelium-intact vascular tissues with NG-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) or 1H-[1,2,4]-oxadiazole-[4,3-α]-quinoxalin-1- one (ODQ) significantly inhibited vascular relaxation induced by ASOO. Moreover, incubation of endothelium-intact aortic rings with ASOO increased the production of cGMP. However, ASOO-induced increases in cGMP production were blocked by pretreatment with L-NAME or ODQ. The vasorelaxant effect of ASOO was attenuated by tetraethylammonium (TEA), 4-aminopyridine, and glibenclamide attenuated. On the other hand, the ASOO-induced vasorelaxation was not blocked by verapamil, and diltiazem. Taken together, the present study demonstrates that ASOO dilate vascular smooth muscle via endothelium-dependent NO-cGMP signaling pathway, which may be closely related with the function of K+ channels.

The first part is about development of a liquid target for a neutron source, which is designed to overcome many of the limitations of traditional beam-target neutron generators by utilizing a liquid target neutron source. One of the most critical aspects of the beam-target neutron generator is the target integrity under the beam exposure. A liquid target can be a good solution to overcome damage to the target such as target erosion and depletion of hydrogen isotopes in the active layer, especially for the one operating at high neutron fluxes with no need for water cooling. There is no inherent target lifetime for the liquid target neutron generator when used with continuous refreshment of the target surface exposed to the energetic beam. In this work, liquid target containing hydrogen has been developed and tested in vacuum environment. Potentially, liquid targets could allow a point neutron source whose spatial extension is on the order of 1 to $10{\mu}m$. And the second is about the vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) spectrometer which is designed as a five-channel spectral system for ITER main plasma measurement. To develop and verify the design, a two-channel prototype system was fabricated with No. 3 (14.4 nm~31.8 nm) and No. 4 (29.0 nm~60.0 nm) among the five channels. For test of the prototype system, a hollow cathode lamp is used as a light source. The system is composed of a collimating mirror to collect the light from source to slit, and two holographic diffraction gratings with toroidal geometry to diffract and also to collimate the light from the common slit to detectors. The two gratings are positioned at different optical distances and heights as designed. To study the appropriate detector for ITER VUV system, two different electronic detectors of the back-illuminated charge coupled device and the micro-channel plate electron multiplier were installed and the performance has been investigated and compared in the same experimental conditions. The overall system performance was verified by measuring the spectrums.

The spatiotemporal distribution of resuspended solid on the shelf of the southern Yellow Sea and the northern East China Sea was studied. The sea surface reflectance imageries obtained by remote sensing using satellite at channels of red (620~670nm), green(545~565nm) and blue(459~479nm) from Terra MODIS were used to explain the front of the high concentration suspended solid(SS) on the shelf in the East China Sea. The horizontal distribution of the resuspended solid was depended on the wind force, tidal current and stratification of water. The horizontal distribution areas of the resuspended solid in winter season during January~April, 2002 were three times wider than those in summer season during June~September, 2001.
