  • The 21st century has been changed into a knowledge-oriented society, which means our society is more dependent on information and moves toward information. The mixing of broadcasting and co mmunication prevails and it makes possible a new type of broadcasting service. Depending on that, a broadcasting is being changed into a consumer-oriented service to satisfy the demands of consum ers in a new media age. It makes us attain to the personal media age to be possible interactive com munication unlike existing one-way transmission. As a result, new complex media are commercialize d and the instance is DMB. DMB is said 'my own TV' or 'TV in my own hands'. But it has limit t o retransmit existing broadcast programs. So hereafter, DMB broadcasting must be produced with co ntents suited its properties out of retransmitting existing contents. It is necessary to analyze exactly properties and service fields of DMB media to make an establish production direction of contents for DMB. This paper intends to suggest overall optimized image-contents production direction including appropriate program developments, a proper running time, visual expressions such as a camera angle and walking etc... DMB contents suited with its properties will give more familiarities to DMB users. Besides, DMB is expected to be a new culture watching broadcasting.

  • Purpose: To investigate the relationship between axial length (AL) and anthropometric parameters in Korean children. Methods: This study included 40 urban school children aged 11-12 years (mean age, $11.95{\pm}0.22$ years; 45.0% girls) residing in Seoul, South Korea. AL (using partial coherence laser interferometry), corneal radius, refractive error, height (m), and weight (kg) were measured. Body mass index (BMI $[kg/m^2]=weight/[height]^2$) and degree of obesity (DO[%]=[actual weight standard weight]/standard weight) were calculated. Furthermore, the number of hours spent reading, watching television, and using a computer every day was determined using a detailed questionnaire. Results: The students had a mean spherical equivalent refraction of $1.06{\pm}0.84$ D. Weight (r=0.427, p=0.006), BMI (r=0.508, p=0.001), and DO (r=0.371, p=0.018) showed a significant positive correlation with AL. Furthermore, longer AL was significantly associated with heavier weight (p=0.041), and higher BMI (p=0.015), and higher DO quartiles (p=0.042). After adjust for age, sex, and near-work activities, multivariate linear regression models showed that weight, BMI, and DO were still significantly associated with AL. Among the near-work activities, daily reading time was significantly associated with AL. Conclusions: AL was positively related to weight as well as daily reading time in Korean urban school children.

  • In this paper, we propose a disparity correction technique to reduce the inherent visual discomfort while watching stereoscopic videos. The visual discomfort must be solved for commercial 3D display systems to provide natural stereoscopic videos to human eyes. The proposed disparity correction technique consists of horizontal and vertical disparity corrections. The horizontal disparity correction is implemented by controlling the depth budget of stereoscopic video using the geometric relations of a stereoscopic camera system. In addition, the vertical disparity correction is implemented by using a feature-based stereo matching algorithm. Conventional vertical disparity corrections have been done by only using camera calibration parameters, which still cause systematic errors in vertical disparities. In this paper, we minimize the vertical disparity as small as possible by using a feature-based correction algorithm. Through the comparisons of conventional feature-based correction algorithms, we analyze the performance of the proposed technique.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate what kind of activities by specialized highschool students who have a sense of learned helplessness do after school, and then to inquire if there would be any of differences between their school activities and after school activities. The students in J specialized highschool for vocational education, located in D city participated in the program of improving learning motivation for students with learned helplessness. We selected 15 out of them as the subjects who were judged to be suitable for this study through 'Convenience sampling'. The research methods of this study is qualitative research methods by observation and in-depth interviews. The results are as in the following. First, daily activities after school of the specialized highschool students with learned helplessness can be divided into 3 groups; leisure activities, learning activities, and sustenance activities. Most of the students spend a lot of time doing leisure activities such as playing with a computer, watching TV, doing something with their friend, and killing time. Secondly, the character of daily activities after school of the specialized high school students with learned helplessness is different from that of the students' school activities connected with their daily activities after school. Based on the results we need to consider the character of the students' daily activities after school so as to help the students with learned helplessness, especially in specialized school.

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to identify differences in physiological· psychological environmental behavioral characteristics between obese and control children participating in a health camp and to identify the factors related to childhood obesity. Methods: Two hundred eighty seven children aged 6 to 12 years were recruited from a health camp for elementary students in D city, Korea. Data collection was done on November 28 and 29, 2009. Anthropometric measurements, blood tests, and self-report surveys were conducted. Chi-square test, independent t-test, ANCOVA, and multiple logistic regression were performed using PASW statistics 18.0. Results: Obese children had adverse conditions for both physiological and psychological characteristics. In terms of environmental and behavioral characteristics, high maternal BMI and more than two hours of TV watching were significantly associated with high risk of childhood obesity (OR=1.11, 95% CI=1.02-1.21; OR=2.05, 95% CI=1.23-3.41). Conclusion: Through a multi-factorial approach, the current study identified the differences between obese and control children participating in a health camp and risk factors of childhood obesity. These findings provide preliminary data and perspectives on intervention research for prevention and management of childhood obesity.

  • The purpose of the study is to suggest the amount of space for each behavior according to the classification of behavior in the housing to plan the optimal floor space of the elderly housing. The method for calculating space for behavior begins with classifying behaviors, identifying them and then taking pictures of the model of elderly people who reproduce each behavior. Based on the pictures, body parts which are necessary for each behavior are assembled and the formula for behavioral space is created. The space for behavior is produced considering the body dimensions of Korean elderly in their sixty's as well as the furniture size and the psychological distance between people. 3D modeling is used to verify the result. Human behaviors can be classified into individual-related, housework-related, family-related, reception-related and other behaviors. These five behaviors are subdivided into more specific behaviors. The area for each specific behavior is calculated with the anthropometric data of the elderly, preferred furniture dimension and psychological area. As a result the required area for specific behaviors is as follows: the behavior of sleeping in a bed needs $4.3m^2$; the behavior of changing clothes on a chair, $1.7m^2$; the behavior of watching TV on the floor $1.3m^2$, the behavior of working and reading using a desk, $2.1m^2$, the behavior of exercise, $2.5m^2$; the behavior of showering on a chair, $1.3m^2$ and showering using a wheelchair, $1.9m^2$; the behavior of toileting using a wheelchair, $2.3m^2$; the behavior of washing up using a wheelchair, $1.9m^2$; the behavior of eating using a table for four persons, $4.4m^2$; the behavior of cooking and washing dishes, $0.9m^2$ per counter-top; the behavior of washing clothes using a washing machine, $0.9m^2$; the behavior of ironing on the floor $1.4m^2$; the behavior of reception(three persons) on the floor considering personal space, $4.0m^2$; the behavior of taking on and off shoes on a chair, $1.3m^2$. The result of the study is utilized as quantitative data to calculate optimal floor space for elderly housing. In addition, qualitative data such as characteristics of housing preference, spacial usage and storage capacity are necessary to produce the floor space which can provide convenient and safe living environment.

  • Each ethnic group has different cultural backgrounds and each culture has developed with its own traditions. The interaction between different cultures is getting more active through acculturation and cultural contacts. The purpose of this study was to compare domestic living of Korean immigrants with Australians in the form of a Cross-Cultural study. For this, usage of domestic space and seating style of 52 Korean households and 53 Australian households in Melbourne were analyzed. Ethnographic research with questionnaire was used. The results of the research were as follows. 1. The most popular type of Living-Dining-Kitchen arrangement was L+ K. D for Koreans and L. D . K for Australians. 2. A laundry room was indispensable for both and they all wanted to do ironing in there as well as dry. Both were satisfied with the type which toilet was separated from the bathroom Drain hole on the floor of the bathroom was not indispensable for most Koreans and Australians. 3. Koreans and Australians were doing various activities in living area and both were getting together around kitchen(dining) area. The particular thing of Koreans was that they were using the main bedroom with multiple purpose. 4. The seating style of Koreans and Australians belong to chair-seating style generally. But Koreans were using floor seating style in making bed for the guest and making Kimchi. Koreans and Australians were using mixed style of floor seating and chair-seating in relaxing time with watching TV, treating guest or so. 5. Koreans were not satisfied with using carpet cause of dust but Australians were satisfied with the carpet cause of warmness. 6. Most Koreans and Australians were take off shoes inside of the house. Koreans were organize shoes around the front door of the house usually and Australians were organize shoes in bedroom usually. 7. The most popular heating system was ducted heating for both. The level of satisfaction about ducted heating was low for Koreans because they though that it could contaminate air. Australians were satisfied with ducted heating because they though that this one was fit on the weather of this area. 8. Living room was the most important one for Koreans and Australians and they also thought it should be decorated well for entertaining guests. Most Koreans were estimate that the brightness of the light of the house was not enough but it was estimated to moderate for Australians on the contrary.
