In this study, the solid-liquid separation characteristics of swine wastewater were investigated for the coagulation and dissolved air flotation (DAF). Coagulation characteristics were studied using jar-tester with the different coagulants and dosage amounts. DAF characteristics were also investigated in terms of the different flotation conditions with the raw swine wastewater, pH adjustment only, and adding coagulants. When the raw swine wastewater was coagulated with the only inorganic coagulants, the proper inorganic coagulants were founded as $FeCl_3$ > PAC > Alum orderly, and the optimal coagulant dosages were founded as $1,000mg/{\ell}$, $1,500mg/{\ell}$, $1,500mg/{\ell}$, respectively. As the raw swine wastewater was treated with the polymer coagulants, the only cationic polymer coagulant showed an effective coagulation and the optimal dosage of cationic coagulant was founded as $200mg/{\ell}$. When the different dosages of cationic polymer was added to each $500mg/{\ell}$ of the inorganic coagulants, the proper inorganic coagulants were founded as $FeCl_3$ > Alum > PAC orderly, and optimal cationic polymer dosages was founded as $25mg/{\ell}$, $25mg/{\ell}$, and $100mg/{\ell}$, respectively. Resulting from the raw swine wastewater experiments using DAF without coagulation, the proper operation conditions of DAF were set to 400% of recycling ratio, 4 atm in air dissolving tank, and under pH 3. But the raw swine wastewater was difficult to successfully operate DAF without pre-coagulation. While the DAF separation after pre-coagulation using inorganic coagulants was not accomplished due to the low intensity of the floc, DAF after pre-coagulation using both the inorganic and cationic polymer coagulants was accomplished very well. Optimal dosage of cationic polymer coagulant in case of $500mg/{\ell}$ Alum dosage was founded as $500mg/{\ell}$.

In this paper checked up biomass which occurs in the Jeju as are classified as organic waste for integrated management system for review and circulation of resources. Biomass which occurs in the Jeju was the 10,818 tons of sludge, 61,284 tons of food-waste, 1,519,000 tons of livestock. Sludge is treated marine discharge, food-waste is treated regeneration and livestock is treated in the form of recycling. How to establish "System used by mechanism of recycling management on biomass resources" to introduce biomass town created by Hita-city, Oita-ken in Japan. Also there established a model system to building for recycling management of biomass and then checked up the economics. According to the report, it has the difference in facilities, but it will switch to a surplus in 4 years, therefore it was confirmed that the economy. To be considered priority most livestock in "System used by mechanism of recycling management on biomass resources" in Jeju. So it is introduced the urgent problem and the problem awaiting solution on treating livestock in this study.
The applicability of the waste pulp which produced in the paper recycling process as an adsorbent for the treatment of $Ni^{2+}$ ion in wastewater has been investigated taking the initial concentration of adsorbate, temperature, the amount of adsorbent, and solution pH as the experimental variables. In addition, the effect of the concentration of coexisting solute and pre-treatment of adsorbent on the adsorbability of $Ni^{2+}$ ion were also examined. The electrokinetic potential of waste pulp was observed to be positive below pH 7.8 and negative above this pH. The adsorption reaction of $Ni^{2+}$ ion reached its equilibrium within 4 hours after the reaction was initiated and the adsorbed amount of adsorbate was found to increase with its initial concentration. The adsorbability of $Ni^{2+}$ was raised with temperature so that its adsorption reaction was considered to be exothermic, which was substantiated by thermodynamic calculation. Also, the adsorbed amount of $Ni^{2+}$ was raised with the amount of waste pulp and with pH in the range of pH $3{\sim}6$. This behavior of the adsorption of $Ni^{2+}$ according to the solution pH was well agreed with the electrokinetic characteristics of waste pulp in solution. The amount of coexisting solute was observed to reversely affect on the $Ni^{2+}$ adsorption onto waste pulp under the experimental conditions. With regard to the pre-treatment of adsorbent with NaOH, the adsorbability of $Ni^{2+}$ was increased with the concentration of NaOH to a certain extent. However, it was found to decrease contrarily when the concentration of NaOH became too high.

The swine wastewater from slurry feedlot has been a social problem in Korea since the proper treatment is very difficult. Therefore, a practical study on the Solid-Liquid separation of swine wastewater from slurry feedlot was carried out as a pan of pretreatment for the successful biological treatment. The appropriate type of coagulant and optimum dosage were proposed for the most efficient Solid-Liquid separation and the best Solid-Liquid separation methods for different size of feedlot were determined through the tests with field-scaled Solid-Liquid separation equipment. The appropriate coagulant for the conditioning of dewatering property was E-851, which is a cationic polyelectrolyte made of polyacrylamide, and the optimum dosage was 0.24~0.6% of unit solids weight. Mesh Screen, Drum Screen, Cyclone Drum Filter, Screw Press, High-speed Screw Decanter, Low-speed Screw Decanter, and Dissolved Air Flotation Process had been investigated in this study. According to the results, the Screw Press was the best dewatering equipment for the small & medium size for feedlot and low-speed Screw Decanter was the best for the large size feedlot & public owned treatment facilities for the primary Solid-Liquid separation, and the most suitable secondary treatment process was DAF. On the other hand, reductions for the requirement of bulking agent and organic loading by Solid-Liquid separation process were 94.8% and 84.7%, respectively Therefore, the Solid-Liquid separation process must be required for the successful treatment of swine wastewater from slurry feedlot.

This study was focused on removal efficiency of complex (or mixed) wastewater from agricultural and industrial plant for advanced treatments by HBR-II process, that was well known to be suitable to the treatment of livestock wastewater. The main purpose of this study was intended to evaluate the applicable feasibility of the HBR-II for revamping the present activated sludge process to the advanced one. And also, the settling study including the batch typed experimental column tests was performed to evaluate the coagulation stability of organic colloidal particles in wastewater. The mid-scale plant of HBR-II process between pilot and laboratory was used for this study. As F/M ratio remains constant in the range of 0.20~0.25 $BOD_5/Kg{\cdot}MLSS/Day$, the efficiency of biological treatment increased. It has been shown that the results of biodegradation study were, for removal efficiency(%), $BOD_5$ 98.4%, $COD_{Mn}$ 92.9%, SS 97.5%, T-N 91.3%, T-P 82.3%, respectively, which were relatively higher than other processes. From this study, HBR-II process would be well applied to the biological treatment of agricultural and industrial complex wastewater.

The purpose of this study is the evaluation of adsorption capacity of casts for heavy metals comparing with the activated carbon. The casts was obtained from vermicomposting of the mixed organic sludges which were generated from the treatment facilities for leather wastewater and cattle wastewater. The physico-chemical characteristics of cast was investigated. Also, the batch adsorption experiments of cast and activated carbon for heavy metals were carried out, and the results were analyzed by Freundlich isotherm. The buffering capacity to the acidic wastewater was founded in the cast, and the cation exchange capacity of cast impling adsorption capacity for soluble substances was evaluated as about 55me/100g. Those were implied that the cast have a large potential as a good adsorbent for soluble pollutants in wastewater. From the results of batch experiments, the removal efficiencies of tested various heavy metals including Pb, Cu, Cd, and Cr were very high value as 89-98% for the activated car-bon, and 80~95% for the casts except for Zn. The adsorption equilibriums for the two materials were achieved within 90 minutes. The order of preferable metals in the adsorption was found to be Pb>Cu>Cd>Cr>Zn on the cast and to be Pb>Cd>Cu>Cr>Zn on the activated carbon, respectively. From the above results, it might be con-cluded that cast is effectively available as a good adsorbent to treating the heavy metal bearing wastewater.
Fenton's oxidation can improve the biodegradability of refractory organic wastewater by generating $OH{\cdot}$ which is one of the most reactive species. Fenton's reagent is used to treat a variety of industrial waste containing a range of toxic organic compounds. But this process cannot be economical because of high chemical cost of $H_2O_2$, ferrous ion solution and high sludge disposal cost. In this study, we proposed a modified Fenton's oxidation process which can reduce the reagent cost and obtain better removal efficiencies with less Fenton's reagents, and have a good potential of sludge recycling. In modified Fenton reaction, ferrous ion solution is adjusted to optimal pH with NaOH. Then it added to the sample and reacted to $H_2O_2$. For the experiment, synthetic wastewater made of phenol, which is one of the typical water pollutants, was used and the ionic strength of this wastewater was controlled by adding $NaHCO_3$. The effects of DO, ionic strength, and $H_2O_2$ dosing methods were investigated. As a result, modified Fenton's treatment efficiencies are better than conventional Fenton's reaction treating leachate and dyeing wastewater. And modified Fenton's treatment efficiencies combined to the sludge recycling for a half of Iron dosage are as good as the conventional Fenton's for a normal Iron dosage.

This study was carried out to investigate removal character of nitrogen and phosphorus with injection time of acetic acid on SBR, which is one of the biological treatment process. Wastewater used in experiment period was swine wastewater with character, relatively lower organic material concentration than nitrogen concentration. In the experiment with injection time of acetic acid, run 1 wasn't injected acetic acid during the anoxic period, and run 2 was injected intermittently acetic acid during the anoxic period of 15 hours. And run 3 was injected intermittently during the anoxic period of 3hours from end of wastewater filling. And filing time of the wastewater was 20hour from run 1 to run 3. In the study, the highest removal efficiency of organic and nitrogen were obtained by the operating condition of Run 2(the ratio of mixing/aeration time : 16.5/5.5, injection time of acetic acid : 15hours) and T-P was obtained by the operation condition of Run 3(the ratio of mixing/aeration time : 16.5/5.5, injection time of acetic acid : 3hours),and removal efficiency of $BOD_5$, $COD_{Mn}$, $COD_{Cr}$, T-N and T-P in the treated water was 96.1%, 87.7%, 90.6%, 86.6% and 84.5%, respectively.
The ceramic microfiltration system with periodic $N_2$-back-flushing was operated for treating paper wastewater discharged from a company making toilet papers by recycling milk or juice cartons. Two kinds of alumina membranes with 7 channels used here for recycling paper wastewater. The optimal filtration time interval for HC04 membrane with $0.4{\mu}m$ pore size was lower value of 4 min than 16 min for HC10 with $1.0{\mu}m$ pore size at fixed back-flushing time 40 sec, trans-membrane pressure $1.0kg_f/cm^2$ and back-flushing pressure $5.0kg_f/cm^2$. From the results of TMP effect at fixed filtration time interval and back-flushing time, the lower TMP was better on membrane fouling because high TMP could make easily membrane cake and fouling inside membrane structure. However, we could acquire the highest volume of total permeate at the highest TMP for the reason that TMP was driving force in our filtration system to treat paper wastewater. Then the permeate water of low turbidity was acquired in our microfiltration system using multi channels ceramic membranes, and the treated water could be reused in paper process.

Surface of hydrophobic polyethylene membrane was modified to become hydrophilic by ion beam irradiation. Submerged membrane filtration reactors contained pristine membrane or surface-modified membrane and the influent to reactors was pickled radish wastewater. The objectives of this study was to investigate the variation of flux and pressure and the characteristics of pollutant removal such as organics, suspended solids and nutrients with time. The result of experiments using intermittent pristine membrane showed the occurrence of severe fouling by increasing permeate pressure rapidly in case of pickled radish wastewater but in synthetic wastewater, this phenomenon was not occurred. In experiments of variation flux after chemical cleaning and water cleaning in pristine membrane, chemical cleaning must be necessary for renewals of pollutant membrane. Performance of intermittent operation is higher than that of continuous operation. Reaching fouling time in the case of surface-modified membrane is 6 times as long as pristine membrane. According this reason, replacement expense of surface-modified membrane could be 1/6 of that of pristine membrane. Effluent from this process was relatively good water quality and performance in the removal efficiency of SS, nitrogen and phosphorus was particularly higher.
