볏짚을 이용한 유동장 여재제조 및 제지폐수처리 (Manufacture of the Fluidizing Media Using Rice Straw and Paper Wastewater Treatment)

  • Biological treatment using the activated sludge method and biofilm process has been developed for paper wastewater treatment. It is known that a water treatment using biofilm process has a high efficiency be-cause a great deal of microorganism could adhere to media. It is also known that various plastics such as polyurethane and polyethylene have been used as the media. In this study polyethylene was used as a media and rice straw an additive agent to improve porous and hydrophilic properties of the media for waste water treatment. Porosity and hydrophilic characteristics of polyethylene was increased as rice straw was added to polyethylene. Paper wastewater was then treated with newly developed environment materials. Rice straw showed excellent results in waste water treatment in various media. This environmentally friendly material prepared by polyethylene and rice straw could show similar results to those of a commercial porous polyurethane foam in wastewater treatment.

  • The increase of using low grade ace, the unsorted mixed grade, as fibrous raw materials for the packaging paper results in the increment of fine screen reject owing to the strong tendency to reduce the slot width. Since the most of screen reject consists of undispersed fiber flake, the suitable treatment of the flake could increase the yield of ace recycling and decrease the amount of solid waste. In this work, the novel method combined the mild mechanical treatment by using Tumbling pulper with the biological treatment was developed and applied to the wet strength flake and the fine screen tail line reject originated from a packaging paper mill. The results showed the new method could provide much better efficiency for the disintegration of undispersed flake and for the recovery of fiber from the rejects. The application of the laboratory scaled-Pack pulper showed the possible separation technique for mill application by fractioning effectively the fiber from the treated solid waste.

배추 뿌리의 Peroxidase를 이용한 Phenol의 제거 (Phenol Removal by Peroxidases Extracted from Chinese Cabbage Root)

  • 농산 폐기물인 배추 뿌리에 다량으로 존재하는 peroxidase를 산업적으로 이용하기 위하여 배추 뿌 라를 JUicer로 대량 추출하여 객상효소 부분과 고형 물 부분을 얻었다. Peroxidase는 액상 부분에 약 6 66%, 고형물 부분에 34%가 분포되어 있으므로 두 부분을 모두 이용하여 phenol성 폐수의 효소적 처리를 검토하였다. Batch stirred reactor에서 액상효소(1,800 unit/$\ell$) 를 이용하여 150ppm의 phenol 용액을 처리한 결과 3시간 후에 96% 의 phenol을 중 합시켜 침전으로 제거할 수 있었다. 한편 pulp를 이용한 air lift reactor(600 unit/$\ell$) 에서는 120ppm의 초기 phenol 농도로부터 5ppm까지 제거할 수 있 다. Batch stirred reactor에 비하여 air lift reactor에 첨가된 효소의 양이 1/3임에도 불구하고 거의 비숫한 phenol 제거 효율을 냐타내었다.

  • Carton and corrugated paperboard have excellent convertibility characteristics that could be easily slitted, folded, and inserted to become a certain shape of box or case. This excellent processing characteristics of carton and corrugated paperboard as well as their recyclability will continue to make them possess high portion in packaging markets. However, staple, tape, or adhesive have been used to seal a paperboard packaging box or case. Staples among them have been frequently used in many cases because of their convenience. Staples could enter the inside the box and give wounds to the goods in the box or case. Furthermore additional handling and waste treatment costs in the making and recycling processes would be necessary when staple is used to seal box or case. This study has been carried out to develop non-staple paperboard packaging box & case designs that can be used to make non-staple boxes & cases. It is believed that the non-staple folding paperboard boxes & cases could be more environmental-friendly, beautiful, and economic than staple boxes & cases.

왕겨의 화학적 조성 및 왕겨섬유의 형태적 특성 (Chemical Composition of Rice Hull and Morphological Properties of Rice Hull Fibers)

  • The rice hull could be the one of the most abundant agricultural waste in Korea. Since the efficient utilization of agricultural waste or byproducts of food industry would be critical for the sustainable growth, this study conducted the investigation of the chemical composition and the morphological properties of rice hull and rice hull fiber. It was found that there was big difference between the outer surface and the inner surface in the chemical composition and the morphological properties. Expecially, the outer surface showed the rugged patterns in which most of silica of rice hull existed. Little or no silica was found in the inner surface and rice hull fiber. The average fiber length of rice hull fiber was 0.45mm which was shorter than that of hardwood fiber. Rice hull fiber showed a round long shape which is typical shape of non-wood fibers

탈묵펄프용 표백약품에 따른 표백 특성 및 표백폐수의 환경부하 영향 (The effect of bleaching reagents on bleachabilities of DIP and environmental loads)

  • DIP(deinked pulp) was bleached by FAS, $Na_2S_2O_4$ and $H_2O_2$, which are widely used in DIP bleaching process, in order to improve optical properties of DIP, and the bleaching efficiencies of DIP and environmental loads of waste water were compared, depending on bleaching chemical dosages. With the application of different bleaching chemicals, some positive improvements were shown in optical and physical properties of bleached pulp. However, the physical properties of bleached DIP and their characteristics of wastewater were remarkably different, depending on dosages and bleaching reagents. DIP chemicals with FAS and $Na_2S_2O_4$ have higher improvement in optical and physical properties than $H_2O_2$. Also, environmental loads such as pH, turbidity, SCODcr and cationic demand were decreased in reductive bleaching process. Despite of higher effectiveness of reductive bleaching process, there were some environmental problems caused by sulfur ions from FAS and $Na_2S_2O_4$. With the method of sulfur ion controls, it would be more effective than $H_2O_2$ bleaching process.

친환경 골판지 상자 제조를 위한 재활용 폐지 섬유의 물리적·환경적 특성 평가 (Fiber Analysis and Environmental Assessment of Recycled Waste paper for Eco-friendly Corrugated Box Manufacture)

  • In the manufacture of corrugated box, the fibrous raw materials are mainly consisted of recycled papers, such as KOCC(Korean Old Corrugated Container), kraft sack, and AOCC(American Old Corrugated Container). Among these recycled waste paper, the proportion of KOCC is relatively higher than others in fibrous raw materials. Generally, KOCC shows some poor fiber properties and contains hazardous heavy metal sources. Therefore, it is to evaluate the property of recycled paper sources for eco-friendly corrugated box manufacture. In this study, the physical and mechanical properties of 3 kinds of recycled fibers and their mixed stocks were analyzed. The environmental assessment was also evaluated by analyzing the 4 representative heavy metal contents and evaporation residues in waste papers. As the results, KOCC showed the poorest fiber qualities and had the highest heavy metal contents and evaporation residues among the recycled fibers. Finally, the mechanical strength properties were increased by decreasing KOCC proportion of mixed stock conditions. In addition, the heavy metal contents and evaporation residues were also decreased by increasing recycled AOCC and kraft sack proportion.

폐 일회용 기저귀의 유용 성분 회수를 위한 해리조건 연구 (Studies on the Pulping Conditions of Separating Useful Components from Disposable Diaper Waste)

  • Disposable diaper has been used in order to handle urine and feces conveniently. At present the amount of disposable diaper waste increases gradually. Incineration and landfill have been the only ways to dispose of disposable diapers. However, if they are disposed by landfill, decomposition will take more than one hundred years. In addition, another way of dispose incineration has caused air pollution. Therefore, it is necessary to study recycling process for disposable diaper since plastic and wood fibers of diaper are useful materials to recycle. In this study, pulping condition of disposable diaper waste was studied in order to effectively separate the components. Recovery rates of plastic and fibers were analyzed under different pulping conditions. It was found that optimum pulping consistency was 5%, time was 60 minutes, temperature was $50^{\circ}C$, and cut size is $21cm{\times}21cm$. The recovery rate of plastic and fibers can be achieved above 70% under the optimum pulping condition.

제지공정 페슬러지처리용 지렁이 분변토의 담체화 기술 (Immobilization of Earthworm Casts to Treat the Waste Sludge Produced from Pulp & Paper Plants as a Biocarrier)

  • 제지슬러지를 지렁이에게 급이하여 생산된 분변토의 하 폐수 고도처리용 담체로의 적용 가능성에 대하여 알아보았다. 먼저 폐수를 일반 활성슬러지법으로 운전한 후 이를 담체와 유입수의 조건을 달리하여 영양 염류의 제거 효율을 알아보았다. 담체를 적용하기 전엔 T-P및 T-N의 제거율은 각각 평균 52%와 31%정도로 나타났다. Pellet 형 및 pack 형으로 제조된 두 종류의 분변토 담체를 적용한 후에는 T-P의 경우는 제거효율이 약 1.3~1.4배 증가하였으며 T-N의 제거효율은 약 1.9 ~ 2.0 배 증가하여 상당히 뛰어난 영양염류의 제거 효율을 보여주었다. 또한, T-N 및 T-P의 제거효율은 담체의 종류에는 큰 영향을 받지 않아 다양한 미생물이 서식하는 분변토는 성형 방법에 관계없이 뛰어난 성능을 보임을 알 수 있었다. 반면, 담체 적용 전후의 BOD 및 COD의 제거 효율은 큰 차이가 없었다. 본 연구를 통하여 분변토로 제조된 담체는 하 폐수 고도처리용 담체로의 활용 가능성이 매우 높은 것으로 사료된다.

폐지의 해섬에 관한 연구 (A basic study on the defiberation of waste newspaper)

  • 본 연구는 폐신문지로부터 목재섬유를 분리하여 회수하는 해섬공정에서 교반의 정도, 폐지의 농도, 해섬용수에 용존하는 이온의 농도, 인쇄 면적, 침적시간, 해섬 수용액의 온도등이 해섬에 미치는 영향을 조사하였다. 고온($50^{\circ}C$) 수용액에서의 해섬은 상온($16^{\circ}C$) 수용액에서의 해섬보다 약 2배의 효율을 보였다. 2000r.p.m. 이하의 저속 교반 해섬에서는 회전수가 2배 증가함에 따라 2배의 해섬효율을 보인다. 온도 $16^{\circ}C$, 펄프농도 1%, 교반기의 회전수 1200에서 NaOH의 1$\times$10\ulcornerM은 1$\times$10\ulcornerM 보타 약 3배의 해섬효율의 향상을 나타낸다. 침적 온도는 침적시간보다 해섬에 더 큰 영향을 미친다. 단위 면적에서 인쇄면적이 넓어지면 해섬속도는 늦어진다. 알칼리성 수용액이 해섬에 효과적이고, 같은 농도에서의 해섬은 NaOH>KOH>$Na_2$SiO$_3$>$Na_2$$CO _3$> $Ca(OH)_2$의 효율순서를 보인다.
