LPG 연료용 비황분계 부취제의 적용성 연구 (A Study on the Application of Sulfur-Free Odorant for LPG Fuel)

  • 일반적으로 황분계 부취제는 연료가스로 인한 가스중독, 발화, 폭발 등의 사고를 방지하고, 배출가스에 의해 연료 가스 누출의 즉각적으로 손쉽게 검출할 수 있도록 LPG, 그리고 도시가스와 같은 연료가스에 첨가 사용하고 있다. 본 연구에서는 기존의 황을 함유한 가스용 부취제를 대체하여 연료의 저황분화와 금속 부식성을 낮출 수 있는 LPG 연료용 비황분계 부취제 개발을 위하여 실험하였다. 비황분계 부취제는 황을 함유하지 않는 12개의 부취물질을 선정하였으며, 직접 관능법에 의한 취질과 취기 평가를 실험하였다. 최종 선정된 혼합 부취물질은 methyl isovalerate, methyl acrylate, 2-ethyl-3-methyl pyrazine이며, 이때 조성비는 50% : 40% : 10% 이다. 최종 비황분계 부취제(K-Petro S-Free)는 LPG 연료에 40 wt ppm 혼합하여 품질평가, 금속 부식성 평가 그리고 장기 안정성 평가를 실험하였다. 이 때 LPG 연료용 비황분계 부취제는 국내 LPG 연료의 품질기준을 모두 만족하였다. 또한 금속에 대한 부식성에는 영향이 없으며, 60일간의 장기 안정성 평가에서 LPG연료의 조성에 영향을 주지 않았다. 따라서 최종 선정된 비황분계 부취제(K-Petro S-Free)는 LPG 연료의 첨가제로서 가능성을 보여주고 있다.

파괴확률 변화속도를 이용한 철도 성토사면의 안전관리기준 (Safety Regulation of Railway Embankment using Velocity of Failure Probability)

  • 국내 사면안정성 설계기준은 우기 건기시로 제안되어 사용되고 있지만, 한계평형해석의 결과로 산출되는 안전율이 외부조건에 의해 변화되며, 특정한 변곡점이 없기 때문에 사전에 안전을 확보하기 어렵다는 점에 착안하여 경보발령, 서행 및 열차정지 등과 같은 안전규정의 설정이 가능한 대안을 검토하였다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 불포화토질역학과 신뢰성해석에 기초하여 현행 안전율을 보조할 수 있는 부가적인 지표를 도입하였다. 강우침투에 따라 안전율과 신뢰지수는 지수함수형태로 감소하는 특징을 보이며, 파괴확률은 누적확률분포함수 형태로 증가함을 확인할 수 있었다. 본 연구에서 검토한 부가지표인 파괴확률 변화속도는 현재의 기준 안전율 부근에서 명백한 변곡점을 갖는 특징이 있다. 이를 이용하면 사면의 안전관리와 모니터링 시스템에 대한 적정 규정으로 적용이 가능할 것으로 판단된다.

Validation of Serum Aminotransferases Levels to Define Severe Dengue Fever in Children

  • Purpose: We aimed to study the pattern of liver-injury in children with dengue fever (DF) and validate serum aminotransferase ${\geq}1,000IU/L$ as a marker of severe DF. Methods: Children admitted with DF were included. DF was defined by presence of clinical criteria and positive serological or antigen tests in absence of other etiology. DF severity was graded as dengue without or with warning signs and severe dengue. Liver-injury was defined as alanine aminotransferase (ALT) more than twice the upper limit of normal (boys, 30 IU/L; girls, 21 IU/L). Results: Of 372 children with DF, 144 (38.7%) had liver-injury. Risk of liver-injury and aminotransferase levels increased with DF severity (p<0.001). Recommended ALT and aspartate aminotransferase (AST) cut-off at ${\geq}1,000IU/L$ had sensitivity 4.8% (5/105), specificity 99.3% (265/267) for detection of severe DF. In children with ALT and AST <1,000 IU/L (n=365), the area under receiver operating curves for prediction for severe DF, were 0.651 (95% confidence interval [CI], 0.588-0.714; p<0.001) for ALT and 0.647 (95% CI, 0.582-0.712; p<0.001) for AST. Serum ALT at 376 IU/L and AST at 635 IU/L had sensitivity and specificity comparable to ${\geq}1,000IU/L$ for defining severe DF. Conclusion: Liver-injury is common in DF. The ALT and AST levels increase with DF severity. ALT and AST levels of ${\geq}1,000IU/L$ could be lowered to 376 IU/L and 635 IU/L respectively for defining severe DF.

Pilot Scale Feasibility Test of In-situ Soil Flushing by using 'Tween 80' Solution at Low Concentration for the Xylene Contaminated Site

  • This study was performed to identify the optimal operating conditions and to evaluate the xylene removal efficiency, applying in-situ soil flushing with the low concentrated solution of 'Tween 80' at the xylene contaminated site. The pilot scale test site ($5m{\times}5m{\times}3m$), was mainly composed of 'sandy loam', with the average hydraulic conductivity of $9.1{\times}10^{-4}cm\;s^{-1}$. The average xylene concentration of the site was 42.1 mg $kg^{-1}$, which was more than 2.5 times higher than Korea soil pollution warning limit (15 mg $kg^{-1}$). For the soil flushing, 7,800 L of 0.1~0.2% surfactant solution was injected into three injection wells at the average injection time of 9 hr $d^{-1}$ for 10 days, followed by the additional only groundwater injection of 6,000 L. The same amount of the effluent solution was extracted from three extraction wells. From the analysis for xylene concentration of all effluent at 3 extraction wells, total 166 g of xylene was removed by in-situ surfactant flushing. Even though the residual xylene concentrations of 7 soil sampling locations in the test site were different due to the soil heterogeneity, from the comparison of xylene concentration at 7 locations before/after the feasibility test, 53.9% of the initial xylene in the site was removed from three extraction wells (mainly Ext-N and Ext-M well). The results showed that the in-situ soil flushing by using low concentrated 'Tween 80' solution had a great potential to remediate the xylene contaminated site.

동해구 현측식 트롤 어선의 복원성 (The stability of the side trawler operating in East Sea of Korea)

  • Trawlers are divided into stern and side types by the method of shooting and hauling net, but the latter is difficult to find beside Korea. In East Sea of Korea, the side type used to be in early 2000's, but it improved to stern type because of its inefficient operating method. The aims of this paper is to make clear the stability of the side trawler in the East Sea, and then confirm whether it satisfy the IMO rule or not, the degree of the transverse inclining angle of the ship when hauling net at hull side. In results, the stability of the ship in initial inclining range satisfied the IMO rule and the domestic rule, but not satisfied those rule in over the range. The limit load of the ship that was coincide with the angle of beam end in hauling net at side was about 26 tons, 18 tons in normal sea condition and storm warning condition respectively. The transverse inclining angles of the ship in hauling net were much higher from 3.3 to 5.5 times than the longitudinal inclining angle of the stern trawler, although those angles were slightly changed with depending on the loading and sea condition.

Heterosigma akashiwo를 모니터하기 위한 뉴클레아제 보호 분석이 통합된 샌드위치 혼성(NPA-SH)의 개발 (Development of a Nuclease Protection Assay With Sandwich Hybridization (NPA-SH) to Monitor Heterosigma akashiwo)

  • Heterosigma akashiwo는 전세계적으로 분포된 침편모조류이며, 대발생을 형성하여 많은 나라의 양식산업에 커다란 손실을 유발시킨다. 따라서 빠르고 민감한 검출방법을 개발하는 것은 유해조류 대발생에 대한 적절한 경보를 위해서 필요하다. 이 연구에서는 H. akashiwo를 정성 및 정량적으로 검출하기 위하여 뉴클레아제 보호 분석이 통합된 샌드위치 혼성(NPA-SH)을 개발하였다. NPA-SH 프로브는 여섯 종의 미세조류 핵산 서열을 이용하여 디자인 후, 특이성을 확인하여 capture 프로브와 signal 프로브를 선정하였다. 배양시료와 현장시료를 이용하여 NPA-SH의 적용성을 평가한 결과, NPA-SH의 좋은 적용성과 효과를 확인하였다. H.akashiwo의 정량분석을 위한 선형회귀식을 확인하였으며, 최소 검출한계는 1×104 cells/ml이었다. NPA-SH를 사용하여 얻은 H. akashiwo의 정량결과와 현미경을 사용하여 얻은 결과 사이에는 통계학적으로 유의한 차이는 없었다. NPA-SH 분석은 환경시료에 잘 적용되었다. 이러한 결과는 NPA-SH가 H. akashiwo의 모니터링에 사용되어 왔던 전통적인 현미경적 방법에 대한 좋은 대안이 될 수 있음을 보여준다.

The Study on Property Criteria of Soil Dressing, Mounding and Earth Cutting for Farmland Preservation

  • Korea's agricultural land is constantly being reduced. The reasons for this are due to the change of agricultural profitability and the policy conditions. The reduction of agricultural land in 2010 showed a decline trend by 14.4 % of paddy fields and 1.2% of uplands compared to areas from 2000. These reductions were mainly due to switch rice paddy fields into upland or greenhouse facility cultivation because of low profitability of rice products compared to farm products. In addition, the permit system of agricultural areas was relaxed in switching paddy fields and this accelerated the reduction of agricultural land. For this reason, more than 1% of agricultural land area has been reduced every year for last five years. Moreover, indiscreet fill and cover materials such as construction wastes were used in agricultural lands and caused land contamination which threatened foundation as sustainable agricultural lands. For these reasons, it is a desperate situation to conserve good agricultural lands. However, the standards of transported soils, filling soils and cutting soils in the Agricultural Land Act are qualitative and have a problem of causing complaints. Therefore, the following criteria (proposals) are proposed in the Agricultural Land Act; (1) Use the proper soils for crops (criterion), (2) Soil components and amounts should be proper as transported soils (range), and (3) Prohibiting usage of improper earth rocks or recycled aggregates in case of filling soils (kinds). The presented criteria (proposals) suggest following; (1) Use physio-chemically proper soils for crops (criterion), (2) In case of transported soils, i, exclude potential acid sulphate soils, ii, gravel content sould be less than 15%, and iii, Heavy metals and other contaminants should be less than the soil contamination warning limit from the Ministry of Environments, (3) In case of filling soils, 13 kinds of recycled wastes specified in the Wastes Control Act should not be used as filling soils, (4) Practice soil conservation technology in case of sloping areas, and (5) Follow proper fertilizer application standards for maturing paddy fields and uplands when cutting soils.

APPLICATION OF HF COASTAL OCEAN RADAR TO TSUNAMI OBSERVATIONS

  • When tsunami waves propagate across open ocean they are steered by Coriolis force and refraction due to gentle gradients in the bathymetry on scales longer than the wavelength. When the wave encounters steep gradients at the edges of continental shelves and at the coast, the wave becomes non-linear and conservation of momentum produces squirts of surface current at the head of submerged canyons and in coastal bays. HF coastal ocean radar is well-conditioned to observe the current bursts at the edge of the continental shelf and give a warning of 40 minutes to 2 hours when the shelf is 50-200km wide. The period of tsunami waves is invariant over changes in bathymetry and is in the range 2-30 minutes. Wavelengths for tsunamis (in 500-3000 m depth) are in the range 8.5 to over 200 km and on a shelf where the depth is about 50 m (as in the Great Barrier Reef) the wavelengths are in the range 2.5 - 30 km. It is shown that the phased array HF ocean surface radar being deployed in the Great Barrier Reef (GBR) and operating in a routine way for mapping surface currents, can resolve surface current squirts from tsunamis in the wave period range 20-30 minutes and in the wavelength range greater than about 6 km. There is a trade-off between resolution of surface current speed and time resolution. If the radar is actively managed with automatic intervention during a tsunami alert period (triggered from the global seismic network) then it is estimated that the time resolution of the GBR radar may be reduced to about 2 minutes, which corresponds to a capability to detect tsunamis at the shelf edge in the period range 5-30 minutes. It is estimated that the lower limit of squirt velocity detection at the shelf edge would correspond to a tsunami with water elevation of less than 5 cm in the open ocean. This means that the GBR HF radar is well-conditioned for use as a monitor of small and medium scale tsunamis, and has the potential to contribute to the understanding of tsunami genesis research.

광섬유 센서를 이용한 온도 및 변형 모니터링에 대한 현장응용 사례 (Case Studies on Distributed Temperature and Strain Sensing(DTSS) by using an Optical fiber)

  • Brillouin backscatter is a type of reflection that occurs when light is shone into an optical fibre. Brillouin reflections are very sensitive to changes in the fibre arising from external effects, such as temperature, strain and pressure. We report here several case studies on the measurement of strain using Brillouin reflections. A mechanical bending test of an I beam, deployed with both fiber optic sensors and conventional strain gauge rosettes, was performed with the aim of evaluating: (1) the capability and technical limit of the DTSS technology for strain profile sensing; (2) the reliability of strain measurement using fiber optic sensor. The average values of strains obtained from both DTSS and strain gauges (corresponding to the deflection of I beam) showed a linear relationship and an excellent one-to-one match. A practical application of DTSS technology as an early warning system for land sliding or subsidence was examined through a field test at a hillside. Extremely strong, lightweight, rugged, survivable tight-buffered cables, designed for optimal strain transfer to the fibre, were used and clamped on the subsurface at a depth of about 50cm. It was proved that DTSS measurements could detect the exact position and the progress of strain changes induced by land sliding and subsidence. We also carried out the first ever distributed dynamic strain measurement (10Hz) on the Korean Train eXpress(KTX) railway track in Daejeon, Korea. The aim was to analyse the integrity of a section of track that had recently been repaired. The Sensornet DTSS was used to monitor this 85m section of track while a KTX train passed over. In the repaired section the strain increases to levels of 90 microstrain, whereas in the section of regular track the strain is in the region of 30-50 microstrain. The results were excellent since they demonstrate that the DTSS is able to measure small, dynamic changes in strain in rails during normal operating conditions. The current 10km range of the DTSS creates a potential to monitor the integrity of large lengths of track, and especially higher risk sections such as bridges, repaired track and areas at risk of subsidence.

확률론적 방법에 의한 교량계측시스템의 관리기준치 설정에 관한 연구 (Study for Determination of Management Thresholds of Bridge Structural Health Monitoring System based on Probabilistic Method)

  • 최근 건설되는 특수교량에는 상시적인 유지관리 체계로서 계측시스템이 활발히 도입되고 있는 상황이다. 일반적으로 계측시스템을 이용한 교량 유지관리 시에는 관리기준치를 설정하여 교량의 상태를 평가하게 되지만, 관리기준치 설정 기준과 방법이 없어 설계허용값에 근거하여 단순하게 설정되고 있는 실정이다. 기존의 방법으로 설정된 관리기준치를 적용할 경우 관리기준치 범위 내에서 발생된 이벤트, 이상거동 및 점진적으로 발생하는 손상 등과 같은 교량의 상태변화를 파악하기에는 한계가 있다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 기존의 절대치 관리에 있어 관리기준치 설정의 문제점을 고찰하여 실무에 효과적으로 적용가능한 개선된 관리기준치 설정 및 운영방법을 도출하였다. 개선된 관리기준치 설정을 위해 검벨분포를 사용한 확률론적 접근방법을 도입하여 재현빈도 50년, 100년의 기댓값에 대한 교량의 주의, 경고치를 산정하였다. 본 연구에서의 관리기준치는 설계허용치 범위 내에서 발생하는 이상거동을 감지할 수 있도록 계측데이터와 계측데이터의 구간변화량에 대한 관리기준치를 각각 설정되었으며, 제안된 방법으로 산정된 관리기준치는 실측 데이터에 대입하여 비정상적인 데이터의 발생여부를 적절하게 파악할 수 있다는 것을 확인하였다.
