  • The effect of a metal mold on densification behavior of stainless steel 316L powder was investigated under warm isostatic pressing with a metal mold. We use lead as a metal mold and obtain experimental data of metal mold properties. To simulate densification behavior of metal powder, elastoplastic constitutive equation proposed by Shima and Oyane was implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) under warm die pressing and warm isostatic pressing with a metal mold. Finite element results were compared with experimental data for densification and deformation of metal powder under warm isostatic pressing and warm die pressing.

  • A finite element analysis for near-net-shape forming of A16061 powder was performed under warm rubber isostatic pressing and warm die pressing. The advantages of warm compaction by rubber isostatic pressing were discussed to obtain a part with better density distributions. The shape of rubber mold was designed by determining a cavity shape that provides a desired shape of the final powder compact. To simulate densification and deformed shape of a powder compact during pressing, the elastoplastic constitutive equation based on yield function of Shima-Oyane was implemented into a finite element program(ABAQUS). The hyperelastic constitutive equation based on the Ogden strain energy Potential was employed to analyze nonlinear elastic response of rubber. Finite element results were compared with experimental data for Al6061 powder compacts under warm die pressing and warm isostatic pressing.

  • The effect of a rubber mould on densification and deformation of aluminum alloy powder was investigated during warm isostatic pressing. The hyperelastic constitutive equations based on various strain energy potentials were employed to analyze deformation of rubber. The parameters in the strain energy potentials were obtained from experimental data for uniaxial and volumetric compression of Viton rubber at two warm temperatures. For elastoplastic response, the yield function of Shima and Oyane was implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) to predict compaction responses of metal powder during warm isostatic pressing. Finite element results were compared with experimental data for densification and deformation of aluminum alloy powder with/without a rubber mould under warm die pressing.

  • Densification behavior of copper powder was investigated to study the effect of an aluminum mold under warm pressing. The low flow stress of an aluminum mold is appropriate to apply hydrostatic stress to powder compacts during compaction under high temperature. The suggested powder metallurgy process is very useful under high temperature since copper powder compacts have higher relative density over axial stress of 100 MPa and show more homogeneity as compared with conventional warm pressing. Elastoplastic constitutive equation proposed by Shima and Oyane was implemented into a finite element program (ABAQUS) for densification behavior under warn pressing by using a metal mold. Finite element results agreed well with experimental data for densification and deformation of copper powder compacts in the mold.

  • The effect of epoxy resin on the water stability of HAC/PVA based MDF cement composite were stu-died through the three different forming methods calendering extruding and warm pressing. In prexing step the epoxy resin was added in 5-15wt% of cement weight. The 3-point flexural strength of each dry and wet specimen which were immersed in water during 3. 7, 14 days was estmated and the mi-crostructural change of epoxy resin-added MDF cement composite due to water immersion was charac-terized by scanning electron microscopy. As the addition amount of epoxy resin the im-provement of water stability of MDF cement composite was achieved in most case. Especially through the warm press forming method the effectiveness of epoxy resin addition to the water stability was enhanced. When the epoxy resin was added by 5wt% to 7wt% the optimum flexural strength and water stability

  • The grain size of 7010 Al alloy was refined to submicrometer level by using equal channel angular pressing (ECAP) and additional warm rolling. The mechanisms of grain refinement in ECAP process were fragmentation of coarse grain to ultra fine subgrains after a few passes and continuous recrystallization of the subgrains with the increase o( passes. Because of ultrafine grain size, essentially low temperature and high strain rate superplasticity was observed after ECAP process and warm rolling to form a sheet metal. The maximum elongation of 700% was obtained for an ECA pressed specimen after IS passes without warm rolling at $450^{\circ}C$ with strain rate of 5x$10^{-3}$/sec.

  • There is an increasing demand for PM-processes with the capability to produce parts of higher complexity than with conventional press and sinter technology in high production numbers. Warm-flow-compaction (WFC) makes use of improved flowability of powders when blended in an appropriate ratio with fine powder fractions and lubricating binders. Here the process is shown with examples of PM-Steels. General features possible with the process like pressing of undercuts and threaded bores are shown.

  • Abalone shell is composed of 95 wt% $CaCO_3$ platelets and 5 wt% of a protein-rich organic matrix which acts as an adhesive layer, connecting aragonite tablets, thus maintaining the structural integrity of the composite. By mimicking abalone shell, we prepared a silicate plate/polymer nanocomposite by infiltrating PMMA between silicate layers and warm-pressing them at $200^{\circ}C$ for 1 h under 15 tons to make organic-inorganic composite materials. To examine the organic-inorganic composite materials after the warm-pressing procedure, the composite sample was analyzed with FE-SEM and TG. The bending strengths and densities of the composites prepared by a silicate plate and PMMA after the warm-pressing process were ~140 MPa and 1.5, respectively.
