  • The concentrations of 20 congeners of PCBs were determined in surficial and dated sediments from Jinhae, Busan, Ulsan and Yeongil Bay of Korea to assess current distributions as well as historical trends. The concentration ranges of total CBs in sediments were nd-138.60 ng/g dry wt. The concentrations of total CBs were significantly different among bays in the southeastern coastal areas (Kruskal-Wallis Test, p=0.036), Showing the Order Of Busan>Ulsan>Yeongil>Jinhae Bay. Predominant PCB homologues were penta-, hexa- and hepta-CBs. The down-core distributions of PCBs showed that the highest concentrations occurred in the late 1960s, coinciding with the onset of industrialization of Korea. The compositions of PCB congeners in sediment among bays were uniform, suggesting that major sources were not changed over time.

  • This paper investigated the efficiency of automobile firms by using several non-parametric approaches. First, using Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), the paper has investigated the critical factors that determine the relative efficiency of management performance in automobile companies. Second, we examined how the firm size impact on the difference of this efficiency by using Kruskl-Wallis Test. Third, by using Mann-whitney test, we also investigated the difference of the efficiency accoss existence of technological innovation activity. Finally, the paper explored the relationship between technological innovation and management efficiency by using logistic regression model. The findings of this study provided practical information for inefficient automobile firms to find benchmarking firms and strategic position to improve their efficiency. The result also provided theoretical and methodological implications for those who explore factors affecting management efficiencies. Future research directions with the limitation of the study are discussed.

  • The purposes of this study are to secure the desirable parent-adolescent cohesion, to find out the real parent-adolescent cohesion and to investigate the influences of family structure variables on the parent-adolescent cohesion. The data are obtained from a sample of 364 high school students in Seoul by using questionaires. X2-test, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Scheffe-test, Kruskal-Wallis test and difference of percentages with cross tabulation are used for data analysis. The major findings are as follows : 1) The high parent-adolescent cohesion is found to be desirable. 2) The mother-adolescent cohesion is higher than that of the father-adolescent. 3) The father-son cohesion is influenced by siblings existence, while the mother-son cohesion is influenced by siblings existence and birth order. The father-daughter cohesion is influenced by birth order and difference of age between mother and daughter. However the mother-daughter cohesion is influenced by the presence of the arents and difference of age between mother and daughter. 4) The results discribed in 3) are changed considerably by controlling the open-communication variable.

  • In this study, R/S analysis which was proposed by Mandelbrot & Wallis(1969) was applied to evaluate the presence of the fractal property in the cone tip resistance of in-situ CPT data. Hurst exponents(H) were evaluated in the range of $0.660\sim0.990$ and the average was 0.875. It was confirmed that a cone tip resistance data had the characteristic of fractals and it was expected that cone tip resistance data sets are well approximated by a fBm process with an Hurst exponent near 0.875. It was also observed that the boundary between layers were obviously identified as a result of R/S analysis and it will be usage in practices.

  • Various methods control the influence of a covariate on a response variable. These methods are analysis of covariance(ANCOVA), RANK ANCOVA, ANOVA of (covariate-adjusted) residuals, and Kruskal-Wallis tests on residuals. Covariate-adjusted residuals are obtained from the overall regression line fit to the entire data set that ignore the treatment levels or factors. It is demonstrated that the methods on covariate-adjusted residuals are only appropriate when the regression lines are parallel and covariate means are equal for all treatments. In this paper, we proposed the new nonparametric method on the ANCOVA model, as applying joint placement in a one-way layout on residuals as described in Chung and Kim (2007). A Monte Carlo simulation study is adapted to compare the power of the proposed procedure with those of the previous procedure.

  • This descriptive study was performed to determine levels of the death anxiety levels of relatives of patients who being treated in a public hospital located in the Asian side of Istanbul and influencing factors. The sample was 106 patient relatives of patients from oncology or chemotherapy units of the hospital. Data were collected between May-June 2011 with the 15-item Death Anxiety Scale developed by Templer (1970) and adapted to Turkish by Senol (1989) and evaluated by number-percentage calculations, the Kruskal Wallis, Anova and t tests. Some 36.8% of the included group were aged 45 years and over, 57.5% were female and 65.1% were married. A statistically significant difference was found between the age groups, genders of the patient relatives, the period of cancer treatment regarding the death anxiety levels (p<0.05). The death anxiety levels of the patient relatives who were in the 17-39 age group, female and had a patient who was under treatment for less than 6 months were found to high as compared to others.

  • PURPOSE. This study aimed to evaluate the correlation between microleakage and screw loosening at different types of implant-abutment connections and/or geometries measuring the torque values before and after the leakage tests. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Three different abutment types (Intenal hex titanium, internal hex zirconium, morse tapered titanium) with different geometries were connected to its own implant fixture. All the abutments were tightened with a standard torque value then the composition was connected to the modified fluid filtration system. After the measurements of leakage removal torque values were re-measured. Kruskal-wallis test was performed for non-parametric and one-way ANOVA was performed for parametric data. The correlation was evaluated using Spearman Correlation Test (${\alpha}=0.05$). RESULTS. Significantly higher microleakage was found at the connection of implant-internal hex zirconium abutment. Observed mean torque value loss was also significantly higher than other connection geometries. Spearman tests revealed a significant correlation between microleakage and screw loosening. CONCLUSION. Microleakage may provoke screw loosening. Removing torque values rationally decrease with the increase of microleakage.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify vital capacity (VC) in relation to the changing position of 19 patients with spinal cord injury (SCI) and 20 normal controls. Among the 19 SCI patients, there were 9 quadriplegics and 10 paraplegics. The vital capacity was measured in each subject during sitting, standing, lying, and head down position of 30 degrees. The data were analysed by the Kruskal-Wallis test, Mann-Whitney test, and Wilcoxon signed rank test. For the SCI, significant difference of VC accoring to the 4 positions between quadriplegics and paraplegics. In the control group, significant difference of VC according to the 4 positions. In 4 positions the VC of men were significantly larger than that of women between two groups. No statistical significant difference was shown in VC by the postural change between quadriplegics and paraplegics.
