  • Experiments have been conducted to determine heat transfer characteristics for a two-dimen-sional turbulent wall attaching offset jet at different oblique angles to a flat surface. The local Nusselt number distributions were measured using liquid crystal as a temperature sensor. Wall static pressure coefficient profiles were measured at the Reynolds number Re 53200(based on the nozzle width, D) the offset ratio H/D from 2.5 to 10 and the oblique angle a from $0^{\circ}$, to $40^{\circ}$ It is observed that the maximum Nusselt number point occurs slightly upstream of time-averaged reattachment point for all oblique angles. The correlations between the maximum Nusselt number and Reynolds number offset ration and oblique angle are presented.

  • The purpose of this study is an augmentation of heat transfer in the case of upward rectangular impinging water jet system. The variables of this study are nozzle-to-heated surface distance, jet velocity and supplementary water height. Optimum heights of supplementary water which augment the heat transfer rate are S/B=2 for H/B=30 and S/B=I for H/B=40, 50. On the Y-direction of nozzle, there exhibits the secondary peak of heat transfer coefficient when supplementary water is not used, however using the supplementary water, it does not exhibits. In the case of using supplementary water, heat transfer coefficient increases not only in stagnation region but also in wall jet region.

  • The confined slot air jet impinging normally on a moving flat surface has been investigated numerically by using commercial CFD code Ansys CFX-V11. Turbulent flows are modeled using k-w turbulence model. Two-dimensional turbulent flow is considered. Calculations were conducted for a nozzle-to-plate spacing of eight slot nozzle width, at three Reynolds number(Re=4500, 6700 and 10,000) and four surface-to-velocity ratios i.e. 0, 0.25, 0.5 and 1. Results are compared against corresponding cases for heat transfer from a stationary plate. Local Nusselt number is calculated under constant wall temperature condition. The analysis reveals that the average Nusselt number increases considerably with the jet exit Reynolds number, but decrease with the plate velocity.

  • Spiral jet is characterized by a wide region of the free vortex flow with a steep axial velocity gradient, while swirl jet is largely governed by the forced vortex flow and has a very low axial velocity at the jet axis. However, detailed generation mechanism of spiral flow components is not well understood, although the spiral jet is extensively applied in a variety of industrial field. In general, it is known that spiral jet is generated by the radial flow injection through an annular slit which is installed at the inlet of convergent nozzle. The objective of the present study is to understand the flow characteristics of the spiral jet, using a computational method. A finite volume scheme is used to solve 3-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations with RNG ${\kappa}-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model. The computational results are validated by the previous experimental data. It is found that the spiral jet is generated by coanda effect at the inlet of the convergent nozzle and its fundamental features are dependent the pressure ratio of the radial flow through the annular slit and the coanda wall curvature.

  • Viscous solutions of supersonic jet impinging on a flat wall in a confined plenum are simulated using three-dimensional Navier-Stokes solver. A confined plenum was designed for simulating the missile launch and analyzing the behavior of the exhaust plume, which were accompanied by complex flow interactions with shock and boundary layer. Concerns of this paper are to show accurate simulation of internal flow in confined plenum and to demonstrate the jet flow structure when the jet interacts with a small opening on the side. Objectives of this numerical simulation are to understand the effect of changing the plume exit area of the plenum. Pressure and temperature rise at certain position in the plenum are traced and compared with test data.

  • Recently, fluidic thrust vectoring methods have been preferably employed to control the movement of propulsive systems due to relatively simpler design and lower cost than mechanical thrust vectoring methods. For An application of the thrust vectoring to flight bodies, it is necessary to understand very complicated exhaust flows which are often subject to shock waves and boundary layer separation. But researches for the thrust vector control using counterflow have been few. In the present study, experiments have been performed to investigate the characteristics of supersonic jets controlled by a thrust vectoring method using counterflow. The primary jet is expanded through a two-dimensional primary nozzle shrouded by collars, and is deflected by the suction of the air near nozzle into an upper slot placed between the primary nozzle and the upper collar. A shadowgraph method is used to visualize the supersonic jet flowfields. Primary nozzle pressure ratios and suction nozzle pressure ratios are varied from 3.0 to 5.0, and from 0.2 to 1.0 respectively. The present experimental results showed that, for a given primary nozzle pressure ratio, a decrease in the suction nozzle pressure ratio produced an increased thrust vector angle. As the suction nozzle pressure ratios were increased and decreased, the hysteresis of the thrust vectoring was observed through the wall pressure distributions

  • An experimental investigation for impingement of under-expanded, axisymmetric jets on a flat plate has been conducted, and the surface pressure, the adiabatic wall temperature distributions on the plate have been measured in detail. For the explanation on the wall temperature distributions, the total temperature distributions along a free jet have also been measured with total temperature probes. In this study, the under-expansion ratio and the nozzle-to-plate distance have been considered as experimental parameters. Depending on nozzle-to-plate distances, different distributions of adiabatic wall temperature are shown by the energy separation at a jet edge and a impinged surface. Also, the recovery factor on a stagnation point decreases significantly due to the isolation of fluid particles in a central region.

  • In this paper, we report experimental investigations on measurement of adiabatic wall temperature on a flat 2-D plate of high-speed impinging jet made by circular-shape nozzle at steady state condition using infra-red camera. Experiments have been conducted for the Reynolds number of 187,000 according to the change of nozzle-to-plate distance. Dimensionless number, recovery factor, has been used to represent the measured adiabatic wall temperature. And we compared the result obtained by using infra-red camera with that obtained by using thermocouple.

  • When a water jet is injected on the body surface, the pressure and shear stress on the surface are important physical parameters in determining the body surface wash out and physical stimulus. We used the force plate in order to measure the surface average pressure for different nozzle types and distances between a nozzle and a plate. We used the nozzles with a hole dimeter of 1.8, 2.9, 3.2mm, and the shower heads with 10 holes (hole diameter, 1mm) and 20 holes (hole diameter, 1mm). The distances between a nozzle and a plate was 10, 20, 30, 40cm. The results showed that the surface forces were not affected by the distances between a nozzle and a plate. Further numerical studies will be performed to predict wall shear stress based on the measured pressure data.

  • This study addresses the behavior characteristics of diesel spray injected on the impinging disk with the room temperature. The models of impinging spray are the stick, the reflect and the wall jet model In the initiative of the fuel injection the impinging spray was the reflect model. because the momentum of droplets was very large. This model developed to the wall jet model according to the time approaches. On the low temperature disk the fuel film was made by the attachment of the droplets with low Weber number. The thickness of impinging spray was increased when the disk approached to the nozzle tip. Mathematical analysis for calculation with the behavior of impinging spray have to consider the reflecting effect and the influence of the fuel film.
