  • Simple practical design method is proposed for the waffle-iron waveguide filter. The design procedure comprises two steps. The first step is to calculate the K-inverter based on the transformed ABCD parameter from the S parameter for the single window of waffle-iron structure by use of EM S/W tool. The second step is to optimize the size of the windows such that the calculated K inverters may be in accord with the distributed constant prototype filter. In order to validate the design method, a waffle-iron filter for satellite communications over the Ka band is designed and fabricated. The measured results are in good agreement with the calculated ones.

  • New layout methods for implementing MOS switches of ultra low channel resistance are presented. These area-effective layout methods include the waffle structure, zipper structure, star zag structure and fingered waffle structure. The design equations for these new layout structures are analyzed. The area-effectiveness of these structures is compared with that of the conventional alternating bar structure. MOS switches of the waffle structure were fabricated using a standard 0.25um CMOS process. The experimental characterization results of the fabricated MOS switches are presented. The analytical comparison and experimental results show that area reductions over 40% are achievable with the new structures.

  • This paper is concerned with the investigation of the structural behavior of waffle structure. Parametric variation on waffle floor thickness, main beam depth and column sizes are imposed to study the effects on mode shapes and natural frequencies of waffle structures. Comparisons between FEM models using shell and 3D-solid elements have also been made. The analysis result has shown that the mode frequencies increase with i) increase in main beam depth at level 2 and ii) decrease in waffle slab thickness at level 3. Both 3D and 2D model shown similar mode shapes. Besides, there is a consistent difference in mode frequencies between 3D and 2D model ranging from 25% to 36%.

  • In order to improve the luminous efficiency in ac PDP(Plasma Display Panel), we have suggested the new structures of sustain electrodes with waffle-type barrier ribs and the discharge current for a given pulse voltage has been decreased by eliminating the electrode area which has nothing to do with visible light emission area compared with conventional structure. As a result, the luminous efficiency was improved about 30% compared with the conventional structure.

  • We have introduced fourth generation PDPs last year. The performance of these PDPs is the highest level among TV displays. At the same time the power consumption of them has reached to the lowest level among FPDs (Flat Panel Displays). High panel luminous efficacy and low address power are necessary for the reduction of total power consumption. Following technologies have been developed and applied to the fourth generation PDPs. High panel luminous efficacy: T-shape electrode, waffle rib structure, high Xe content gas Low address power; CLEAR driving method, etc.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate the relationship between the tactile sensation and mechanical properties of towel. Six kinds of towels with different surface structure and fiber composition were used for this study. To evaluate the tactility of towel, 36 adjectives were collected and then 11 adjectives were selected. The subjective evaluation was examined by one to one comparative method and by blind test for estimating the only the sense of touch of the towels. Kawabata's Evaluation system for fabrics was used to measure the mechanical properties which are tensile, bending, shear, compression, surface, weight, and thickness of six towels. The results are as follows; First, surface structure of the towels had an effect on estimation the sense of touch. Pile surface was evaluated thicker, compacter, more cushiony, and more elastic. Waffle surface was evaluated knottier and rougher, and microfiber suede surface was evaluated softer and denser. Second, the highest value of the mechanical properties measured were G, 2HG, B, and SMD of 100% cotton 100% pile, WC, T, and W of elban loop pile, WT, 2HB, and LC of 100% cotton cut pile, RT and MIU of microfiber suede, and RC of microfiber waffle. Third, the 11 adjectives were correlated with more than one mechanical property. 'Knotty' and 'rough' were correlated with MMD and SMD, 'soft' were correlated with B, 2HB, MMD, and SMD. 'Thick', 'heavy', 'compact', and 'elastic' were correlated with WC, T, and W, 'cushiony' was correlated with WC. 'Stiff' was correlated with B and 2HB, 'dry out' was correlated with RT, WC, MIU, and T. 'Dense' was correlated with RT and SMD.

  • Building-integrated photovoltaic(BIPV) perform traditional architectural function of walls and roof while also generating electricity. But most of the absorbed solar energy appears passively as heat, raising the temperature of cells and reducing the efficiency with which the active part is converted into electricity. Therefore this paper presents the comparison of electrical, architectural and thermal performance of roof integrated photovoltaic(PV) modules, which is composed of different hybrid structure layer such as urethane form, waffle stud etc.

  • This study aims to contribute to development of women's incontinence panties with anti-aging effect meeting customers' requirements by examining types, sorts, sizes and specifications of women's incontinence panties currently sold in the market. The results of analysis of a total of 22 commercial products are as follows. 1. Among the samples, 21 incontinence panties were slip on type like regular underwear; only 1 was pad insertion type. With respect to the length of side seam, 17 (77.3%) incontinence panties were above 14 cm which is classified as maxi; the rest of them (5, 22.7%) were 7~11 cm which is classified as middy. 2. With respect to size, the percentage of Size 3 was 40.9% showing the largest, followed by Size 4 (31.8%), Size 2 (18.2%), Size 5 (9.1%). To produce the incontinence panties considering various ages and body shapes, it is recommended to select above Size 4 as a minimum. 3. With respect to materials of the incontinence panties, natural fibers such as cotton or rayon were mostly used and a polyurethane, nylon or polyester was mixed to enhance the wearing sensation and stretchability of the panties. Finally, for structure of the crotch area, single knit was the largest (9, 40.9%), terry weave 7 (31.8%), sofe pile weave 4 (18.2%), and waffle weave or diamond weave 2.

  • The study uses the crossed wide girder(waffle slab type) in apartment structural system comparing with existing shear wall system. The crossed wide girder will be able to secure the span of the longest which is possible with minimum slab thickness by not increasing the height. The research sees continuity arranges the crossed wide girder in schedule interval following the stress distribution. Namely, it is to make the interior space with the space without column and wall in the minimum height. In order to check the numerical value of this study which it interpreted the ductile frame system due to the crossed wide girder and existing shear wall system used the Midas Gen is a program which 3-dimension laterial force designs are possible. Analysis results, the crossed wide girder system is not disadvantageously laterial drift, drift ratio and deflection of slab compares with existing shear wall system. Also the whole concrete amount is similar existing shear wall system. The crossed wide girder is advantage which secure a architectal variability.
