  • Distribution of relaxation time is presented in the Cole-Cole arc diagram with frequency parameter. In the case of estimation of activation energy for main chains, maximum loss frequencies of ${\alpha}$ peaks, f$\sub$m/(${\alpha}$) display curved change according to the WLF type with variations of temperature. Structural change by the filling of filler and degradation by the thermal aging can be estimated from the WLF factors, C$_1$and C$_2$in Log f$\sub$m/-1/T curves which reflect the variations of free volume and thermal expansivity of composites.

  • The dielectric responses of 10 and 40 wt% siloxane-epoxy copolymers were investigated in temperature range near the glass transition of polydimethylsiloxane at which the dielectric transitions were also observed. On the other hand, the pure epoxy did not show any dielectric transition in measurement temperature range -90 to 150 $^{\circ}C.$ The experimental data showed that for the copolymer investigated, the temperature-frequency super-position principle could be applied to the dielectric response. From the Cole-Cole equation, the dielectric relaxation of the 10 wt% siloxane near the glass transition temperature resulted in a broad distribution with ${\beta}=$ 0.19 and the relaxation time at -70 $^{\circ}C$ was 5.3 ${\times}$ $10^{-2}$s. The glass transition temperature, 188 K, was estimated by using WLF relation, which was consistent with the data presented in experiment.

  • Rubber is used in many industrial products, such as hoses, rubber belts, and oil seals. In particular, more than 200 rubber parts are used in automobiles. The design technology of these parts is largely dependent on field experience, which leads to lengthy and expensive developing procedures. However, with the help of recent developments in nonlinear computer analysis, new rubber products can be developed at low cost. In this study, rubber injection molding design variables, such as location and number of gates, were optimized using computer-aided engineering with the cross-WLF equation to produce CLIP rubber products made from ethylene propylene diene monomer(EPDM). The validity of the proposed design was evaluated by comparison with actual forming results.

  • Intermittent CSR testing was used to investigate the degradation of a NBR O-ring, and also the prediction of its life-time. An intermittent CSR jig was designed taking into consideration the O-ring's environment under use. Degradation of O-rings by thermal aging was observed between $40^{\circ}C$ and $120^{\circ}C$. O-rings showed non-linear degradation behavior under $80^{\circ}C$. At 20% of failure condition, predicted life-times were 32.5 years by Arrhenius plot and 22.6 years by WLF plot.

  • The Bair & Winer's limiting shear stress rheological model is incorporated into the Reynolds equation to successfully predict the traction and film thickness for an isothermal line contact using the primary rheological properties. The modified WLF viscosity model and Barus viscosity model are also adapted for the realistic prediction of EHD tractional behavior. The influences of the limiting shear stress and slide-roll ratio on the pressure spike, film thickness, distribution of shear stress and nonlinear variation of traction are examined. A good agreement between the disc machine experiments and numerical traction prediction has been established. The film thickness due to non-Newtonian effects does not deviate significantly from the fdm thicknesss with Newtonian lubricant.

  • In order to obtain tasic information for solvent dyeing, polyethylene terephthalate (PET) films was pretreated with water, tetrachloroethylene (TCE) and water/TCE emulsion for three hours at $140^{\circ}C$ for stabilizing the substrate. By film roll cyliderical method, Disperse Red 60, Disperse Yellow 42, and Disperse Blue 27 were diffused in the films and examined dyeing properties. The results are summarized as follows; 1) Diffusion coefficient increases in the order, waterTCE>water/TCE 2) A linear relationship between diffusion coefficient and shrinkage was Observed 3) The temperature dependence of the diffusion coefficient can't be expressed by WLF equation.

  • It is necessary to improve mechanical and optical properties in the optical disk substrates as the information storage density using short wavelength laser are being developed. The birefringence distribution is regarded as one of the most important optical properties for optical disk. In the present study, the birefringence distrubution is calculated using the Leonov model for viscoelastic constitutive equations and Cross/WLF model for viscosity approximation. The effects of processing conditions upon the development of birefringence discosity approximation. The effects of processing conditions upon the development of birefringence distribution in the optical disk were examined theoretically. It was found that the values of the birefringence distributions were very sensitive to the mold wall temperature history which minimizes the birefringence distribution. The analytical results showed the possibility of improving mechanical and optical properties in the optical disk substrates by active control of the mold wall temperature history.

  • This experiment was prosecuted to estimate the carcass traits and their relationships in Hanwoo steers. The mean carcass weight(CWT), back fat thickness (BFT), meat, bone, intra- muscular fat (IMF) and eye muscle area (EMA) of steers were 300.27 kg, 9.23 mm, 58.99%, 12.92%, 28.08% and 74.00 $cm^2$, respectively. The pHB(before aging), pHA(after aging), cook loss before aging($CL_B$) and cook loss after aging ($CL_A$) were 5.32, 5.60, 16.43% and 19.21%, respectively. It was also found that the MS and FC were 3.67 and 3.17, respectively. The EMA and quantity index (QIX) were positively correlated with CWT, meat% and bone% but negatively correlated with IMF%. The BFT was positively correlated with CWT and meat% but negatively correlated with bone% and IMF%. The pH (both before and after aging) was negatively correlated with CL (both before and after aging), water loss during freezing (WLF) and FC. The muscle score(MS) was negatively correlated with CL but positively correlated with WLF and FC. The ARM, HRD, CHW and CTM increased with the increasing of fat% and sharply decreased with the increasing of meat% in the carcass.

  • The creep behavior of gels made with $30{\sim}45%$ gelatinized rice starch was measured over a wide range of temperature. Compressive creep curves of rice starch gels conformed to a six element mechanical model consisting of one Hookean, two Voigt and one Newtonian component. The creep compliance of gels decreased with increasing starch concentrations. Among viscoelastic constants of the mechanical model, elastic modulus was mainly influenced by the change of starch concentrations. The concentration-invariant compliance curve was obtained by reduction to 38% using reduction parameter $a_{c}$. The creep compliance curves of 45% starch gels increased with temperature, which indicated that rice starch gels became softer and less rigid with increasing temperature. When the compliance at $20^{\circ}C$ was set as a reference curve, creep compliance data for 45% gels at various temperature could be superimposed as a continuous smooth curve. The apparent activation energies of 45% rice starch gels calculated by the modified WLF equation were not intrinsic, but decreased as temperature increased.

  • Linear and nonliear complex permittivities have been measured for amorphous copolymers of vinylidene cyanide (VDCN) with vinyl acetate (VAc), vinyl propionate (VPr), vinyl benzoate (VBz), styrene (St) and methyl methacrylate (MMA). It is found that the third order permittivity ${\varepsilon}_3$ depends upon frequency according to a function ${\Delta}_{{\varepsilon}_3}/(1+i{\omega}{\tau}_^3)$ while the linear permittivity obeys a Debye function ${\Delta}_{{\varepsilon}_1}/(1+i{\omega}{\tau}_1)$. Experimental results are well fitted by the above predicted functions except at low frequencies where dc conduction dominates. The ${\tau}_1$ and ${\tau}_3$ are nearly equal, and depend upon temperature according to a WLF form. The relaxation strength ${\Delta}_{{\varepsilon}_1}$ depends upon comonomers ranging from $130_{{\varepsilon}_0}$(VAc) to $20{{\varepsilon}_0}$(MMA). The ${\Delta}_{{\varepsilon}_3}$ is negative and depends more strongly upon comonomers. Combined knowledge about linear and nonlinear permittivities predicts very large correlation factors which indicates strongly cooperative dipolar motions in those amorphous copolymers.
