  • The power expansion planning is large and capital intensive capacity planning. In the past, the expansion planning was established with the proper supply reliability in order to minimize social cost. However, the planning not used cost minimizing objective function in the power markets with many market participants. This paper proposed the power expansion planning model using multi-criteria decision rule. This model used multi objective function considering not only cost minimizing but also GENCO's intension. This paper compared proposed model with WASP model in order to verify the result of proposed model.

  • This paper highlights the economic effects of nuclear power plants standardization in Korea. The major effects of nuclear power plants standardization appear in the reduction of time-related costs. By using this major economic effects of standardization, an optimal plant mix of electric power until the year 2005 is suggested by means of WASP computer model. And the effects between the standardized case and the non-standardized case is compared.

  • This paper presents development of the long and mid term power expansion planing for distributed generation. This planing model reflect WADE Economic Model's advantage that special quality of DG(Decentralized Generation) and WASP Model's advantage that special quality of CG(Centralized Generation) each other. Through these synergy, we develop better the Plan of Long and Mid Term Distributed Generation then existent model.

  • This paper discusses definition, concepts, approach methods, application areas, and evaluation of avoided generation costs based on the Korea's official long-term generation expansion plan. The main objective to evaluate avoided costs of resources is to supply decision makers with the breakeven costs of the resources. For the evaluation of avoided costs based on the Korea's generation system, we consider a DSM option which has 1,000MW peak savings, load factor with 70 percents, and life-time with 25 years. The DSM resource can save the fuel spending and capacity additions of a electric utility during its life time. The capacity and fuel savings are evaluated from two different cashflows with and without the DSM option, which are supplied with on the basis of the generation system optimization model (WASP-II), independently. The breakeven kWh costs of the DSM option is projected to be 31.3 [won/kWh], which is composed of generation capacity and fuel avoided costs with 15.0[won/kWh] and 16.3[won/kWh], respectively.

  • The WASP model was applied to Bokha stream with 8.4km of its main stem located in Ichon-gun, Kyonggi province in Korea. The stream was divided into 26 segments with each of 400m length, and 5 segments were embraced boundaries of its tributaries. The parameters of the model were calibrated by the trial and error method to minimize differences between observed and simulated concentration of water quality constituents. The correlation coefficients for DO, $NO_3-N,\;PO_4-P$ and organic P showed high values providing the ability of simulation. The correlation coefficients for BOD and $NH_3-N$ showed low values in both calibration and verification test.

  • WASP which is used to plan generation expansion has disadvantages that can't manage environmental factors and regional supply-demand planning. But with the effectuation of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) and Kyoto Protocol, it is expected that reducing greenhouse gases affects power system in its long-term generation expansion planning. Therefore national countermeasures is needed. This paper formulates a mathematical model considering CO2 emission constraints and Emission Trading that will be enforced. This model is based on the ORIRES which was made by ESI, Russia and manages generation expansion planning. And this mathematical model is verified by studying a case system.

  • A freshwater lake water quality management system(FLAQUM) was developed to help regional manager for the water quality of a rural basin. The integrated user interface system FLAQUM written in Visual Basic, includes three subsystems such as a database management system, basin pollutant loads simulation model using SWMM model and freshwater lake water quality simulation model using WASP5 model. Pollutant load simulation model was applied to simulate the discharge and pollutant loading from the watershed, and freshwater lake water quality model was applied to analyze the changes in water quality with respect to watershed pollutant loads, and this model could be used in planning to control watershed pollutant source for water quality management. Database management system was constructed fur all input and output data processing, and it can be used to analyze statistical characteristics using constructed data. Results are displayed both graph and text for convenience of user. The results of FLAQUM application to Boryeong freshwater lake showed that the lake was in eutrophic condition. The major contribution of pollution comes from tributary No.1 and No.4, which have a large number of livestock farms. Therefore, water quality management must be focused on appropriate management of the livestock farming in the two breanchs.

  • Boryeong Seadike located at southwestern seashore of Korean peninsula completed in 1997. Sluice gate operation can be an important factor to maintain lake water quality and reduce retaining time of pollutants within lake. The lake water quality simulation model, WASPS was adopted and tested to find out proper gate operation timing and discharge amount. From the simulation of sluice gate operation, the results showed that the later the time of discharge for loosing 1 day successively to 6 days, the better the quality of water. Discharge amount showed relatively minor changes of water quality. This means that pollutants flowed into lake from watershed do not have enough time to mix up with deep water when the gate opened at early time. About 3 days delay of discharge caused the dilution effect to stabilize the lake water quality in case of Boryeong freshwater lake.

  • Geumgang canal is planned to connect Geumgang lake with Saemangeum reservoir to accelerate desalinization and dillute polluted water in Saemangeum reservoir. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the variations of water quality by divesion of Geumgang lake flow to the Saemangeum reservoir. WASP5 model was used to estimate water quality concentration of Geumgang lake. Model calibration and verification was done for water quality data for 2001 and 2002. As a result of simulating water quality concentration for 4 scenarios, which was considered whether Geumgang canal will be built, there was little influence on water quality in Geumgang lake though Geumgang lake flow diverted to Saemangeum reservoir.

  • The purpose of this study is to construct an Environment Database Management System (EDMS) for the Saemangeum watershed based on the linkage of Water Quality Model, i.e. QUALKO and WASP model, and GIS database to estimate water quality effectively in this area. There are two major river systems on this study area, the Mangyeong and the Dongjin rivers. Input data are automatically generated through the calculation of the pollutant loading and inflow concentration from the point and non-point sources. The developed system is composed of three different phases, such as pre-process, model performance and post-process. The Model performance is supported by the database at pre-process phase and model performance results were shown in the graphs and attribution data at post-process phase. The measured data from the Mangyeong and the Dongjin rivers are used to evaluate the applicability of EDMS. The EDMS shows higher reliability, and it is expected to contribute to the effective management and improvement of water quality modeling in the Saemangeum watershed since the system reduces complications of using a model in DOS operating environment and increases the accuracy of water quality analysis.
