  • Yersinia enterocolitica induces a broad range of gastrointestinal syndromes, including acute enteritis. We previously reported that the clinical isolate, Y. enterocolitica KU14, which lacks pYV, was still capable of causing clinical infection. The present study demonstrated that KU14 did not trigger the death of macrophages in vitro, unlike WA-314 (ATCC51871, which harbors the pYV virulence plasmid). However, the intracellular growth of KU14 in the macrophages was greater than that of WA-C (ATCC51872, a non-plasmid harboring the derivative pYV plasmid). Treatment with a cholesterol-binding drug $(\beta-cyclodextrin)$ that affected lipid rafts resulted in a dramatic reduction in the inracellular growth of KU14. These data clearly indicate that the enhanced inracellular growth of KU14 is related to lipid raft-mediated infection.

  • BSTRACT In this paper, PM10 forecast model using DNN(Deep Neural Network) is developed for Seoul region. The previous Julian forecast model has been developed using weather and air quality data of Seoul region only. This model gives excellent results for accuracy and false alarm rates, but poor result for POD(Probability of Detection). To solve this problem, an WA(Wide Area) forecasting model that uses Chinese data is developed. The data is highly correlated with the emergence of high concentrations of PM10 in Korea. As a result, the WA model shows better accuracy, and POD improving of 3%(D+0), 21%(D+1), and 36%(D+2) for each forecast period compared with the Julian model.

  • Coffee chaff for manufacturing of the 6 mm thick cement-bonded boards was obtained from a coffee processing industry at Omuo-Ekiti, in Ekiti State, Nigeria. Boards were produced with three levels of cement to coffee chaff ratio of 1.5:1, 2.5:1 and 3.5:1; and at three levels of mixing curing reagent of 2.0%, 2.5% and 3.0%. Three dimensional properties of thickness swelling (TS), water absorption (WA) and linear expansion (LE) were investigated after 48 hours immersion in water. The mean values obtained for TS, WA and LE ranged from 0.46% to 1.47%, from 11.52% to 24.00%, from 0.19% to 0.35%, respectively. The most dimensionally stable boards were produced at the highest mixing levels of curing reagent and cement to coffee chaff ratio of 3.0% and 3.5:1, respectively. The coffee chaff is suitable as raw material for the manufacture of cement-bonded composites and it would be able to stimulate and activate the use of other agro-byproducts for the manufacture of value-added panels.

  • In this study, industrial by-products including blast furnace slag, incineration ash and waste gypsum were used with recycled fine aggregates to manufacture the zero-cement mortar. The replacement ratio of anhydrite gypsum was fixed as 0, 10%, 20% the replacement ratio fo WA1 was fixed as 0.5% and 1.0%, respectively. It could be identified that when the replacement of gypsum was 20% and WA1 of 1.0%, the strength could be in the range of normal strength.
