  • A quality assurance safety assessment database, called QUARK (QUality Assurance Program for Radioactive Waste Management in Korea), has been developed to manage both analysis information and parameter database for safety assessment of low- and intermediate-level radioactive waste (LILW) disposal facility in Korea. QUARK is such a tool that serves QA purposes for managing safety assessment information properly and securely. In QUARK, the information is organized and linked to maximize the integrity of information and traceability. QUARK provides guidance to conduct safety assessment analysis, from scenario generation to result analysis, and provides a window to inspect and trace previous safety assessment analysis and parameter values. QUARK also provides default database for safety assessment staff who construct input data files using SAGE(Safety Assessment Groundwater Evaluation), a safety assessment computer code.

  • The structural Charactesties and adhesion of chemically vapor deposited TiN film on stain less steels have been investated as functions of deposition temperature, surface roughness of sub state, and types of substrates. The grain zine and the lattice parameter of TiN film decreased with decreasing roughness of substates. The(200) preferred orientation was developed dominatly and the lattlice parameter decreased as temperature intereased reardless of the surdless roughnessand type of the substrates used. The surface morphology of TiN film changed from bushed crystal to a plate and then to pyamidal dense crystals with an increase in the deposition temperature. The adhesion of TiN films increased with coating thinkness and decreased with surface roughness in general. The calculations using a Bejamin & Weaver's model have been compard. Maximum valuse of adhesion energy calculated using Laguier's model were W304=331Jm-2,w410=113Jm-2,andW430=107jm-2

  • To study the basic research of the lightning parameter for power system operation. LPATS(Lightning Position and Tracking System) has been introduced since 1995 in KEPCO. We have developed the lightning parameter analysis program. We obtained the various statistical distribution of lightning current parameters from 1995 by this program. In this paper, we describe the results on the comparison/analysis between the fault of transmission line and the LPATS lightning data.

  • Optimization was considered from three perspectives : minimum grain loss, minimum damaged grain loss, and minimum power consumption. Factors affecting combine performance were classified as control, adjustable, and environmental. Control and adjustable factors were optimized by the parameter design developed by Taguchi. Environmental factors were used as input for optimization. Optimum range for control and adjustable factors are presented. Parameter design was adequate to obtain the optimum levels of control factors and optimum range of adjustable factors.

  • The result of wear test for ceramic materials was assessed by Scf parameter to verify the usefulness of the proposed Scf parameter. Friction and wear tests were carried out with ball on disk type. The materials used in this study were HIPed Alumina $(Al_2O_3)$, Silicon carbide (sic), Silicon nitride $(Si_3N_4)$ and Zirconia $(ZrO_2)$. The tests were carried out at room temperature with self mated couples of ceramic materials under lubricated condition. Turbine oil was used as a lubricant. In this test, increasing the load, specific wear rates and wear coefficients of four kinds of ceramic materials had a tendency to increase. The wear coefficients of ceramic materials were in order of $Al_2O_3, SiC, Si_3N_4, ZrO_2$. Worn surfaces investigated by SEM had residual surface cracks and wear particles caused by brittle fracture. As the fracture toughness of ceramic materials was higher, wear resistance more increased. The roughness of worn surface had correlation with wear rate. The wear rate(W$_{s}$) and Scf parameter showed linear relationship in log-log coordinates and the wear equation was given as $W_s = 5.52 $\times$ Scf^{5.01}$.

  • In this paper, a parameter optimization based iterative learning control strategy is presented for permanent magnet synchronous motor control. This paper analyzes the mechanism of iterative learning control suppressing PMSM torque ripple and discusses the impact of controller parameters on steady-state and dynamic performance of the system. Based on the analysis, an optimization problem is constructed, and the expression of the optimal controller parameter is obtained to adjust the controller parameter online. Experimental research is carried out on a 5.2kW PMSM. The results show that the parameter optimization based iterative learning control proposed in this paper achieves lower torque ripple during steady-state operation and short regulating time of dynamic response, thus satisfying the demands for both steady state and dynamic performance of the speed regulating system.
