  • We present a W-band radiometer to detect the metal targets on the ground environment. The type of the designed radiometer is the total power radiometer(TPR) for the simple configuration. The front end of the TPR consists of only the Mixer and LO for miniaturizing the system. Because the radiometer system does not use the low noise amplifier, we use matching circuits and a diode detector configured as a voltage doubler to compensate the degradation of sensitivity. We solve the temperature variation problems by filtering the reference voltages of the radiometer output signals. Through some experiments, we have verified that the designed radiometer system has good performances in detecting metal targets lying at several hundred meters.

  • Silkworms sex determination drew high attention from researchers. Sex chromosomes on the silkworm are of ZW type for females and ZZ type for males. Chromosome W plays an important role in sex determination. Although several molecular linkage maps have been constructed for silkworm, very few markers are discovered on the W chromosome. In order to look for molecular markers and to further locate the Fern gene on chromosome W, we used genomic DNA from both female and male larvae of a silkworm strain named 937 as PCR templates for RAPD amplification with 200 arbitrary 10-mer primers. The amplification results showed three female-specific bands, namely ${OPG-07_496}, {OPC-15_1,660} and {OPE-18_1,279}$. Further verification, however, revealed no band from OPG-07 and OPC-15 in either sex in the strain 798, but OPE-18 provided female-specific band in the strains Suluan7 and C108, and absent in both males and strain 798. This indicates that the bands from ${OPG-07_496} and {OPC-15_1,660}$ are probably female-specific in strain 937, and the band from OPE-18 was probably amplified from a common segment shared by most strains. The genomic DNAs from OPG-07 and OPC-15 were cloned and sequenced. Sequence analysis showed that the DNAs from OPG-07 and OPC-15 have high identities with the retrotransposable elements, and DNA from OPC-15 contains a portion of sequence which probably encodes an eukaryotic translation initiation factor 4E binding protein (eIF4EBP).

  • In this paper, the Gunn diode mount is experimentally designed for use in a W-band waveguide voltage controlled oscillator(VCO). The role of the Gunn diode mount is to match the low impedance of the Gunn diode to the high impedance of waveguide. Computer simulations of VCO characteristics such as center frequency, frequency tuning range, and output power are carried out for various values of disc diameter, disc height, post diameter, and utilized in the experimental optimization of the Gunn diode mount. The designed VCO shows excellent characteristics; 93.9 GHz center fiequency, 600 MHz frequency tuning range with $2{\%}$ linearity, 16 dBm output power.

  • In this paper, An X-band solid state power amplifier(SSPA) for pulse compressed microwave signal with 60Watt power and power added efficiency(PAE) above 30% is described. Designed 60Watt high power amplifier(HPA) was implemented by cascade coupled amplifiers, and it is consisted on three stage drive amplifiers with internally matched GaAs FET and one stage main power amplifier with an internally matched GaN HEMT. The designed SSPA has performance with more than total power gain 37dB and output power 48dBm(60-W) in condition of frequency range $9.41{\pm}0.03GHz$, pulse period width under 1ms and duty cycle under 10%. The implemented SSPA can apply to high quality digital marine radar applications with pulse compression technique.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new W-band monopulse tracking system based on reflectarray antenna structure. The proposed reflectarray antenna monopulse tracking system consists of four feed horn antennas and a planar reflector using a microstrip reflectarray. The four feed horn antennas have a gain of 10 dBi and a half-power beam-width of 56 degrees symmetrically in the E/H plane. It was confirmed that the reflectarray antenna using one feed horn antenna has a size of 41.8 × 41.8 mm2, a gain of 26.8 dBi, and a half-power beam-width of about 5.6 degrees. The reflectarray monopulse tracking system using 4 feeding horn antennas is well matched from 75 GHz to 90 GHz, and the isolation is secured by more than 10 dB. Finally, the proposed system shows the tracking range of 5.98 degrees and the tracking error range was 0.02 degrees.

  • Design of W-band TE10 to TEM mode converter for radial power combiner is proposed in this paper. The proposed structure is used with generally available pin to realize TEM mode and is designed to convert TE10 to TEM mode gradually using 2-step impedance transformer and back short. The pin of proposed mode converter is well bonded to the housing so that environment conditions such as vibration or shock are not affected. The proposed mode converter, in a back-to-back configuration, has less than 1.55 dB insertion loss and more than 10 dB return loss from 92.5 GHz to 97.7 GHz. Proposed converter is expected compact radar and various applications requiring for high power and stable environment conditions.

  • In this paper, a multi-band folded planar monopole internal antenna for mobile handset applications is proposed. The proposed antenna has multi-resonances, which is different from a conventional folded monopole antenna, and it provides a wide bandwidth at high frequency bands. The measured impedance bandwidth (VSWR < 3) is 180 MHz and 1880 MHz in lower and higher frequency bands, respectively. The proposed antenna can effectively cover most wireless communication bands including CDMA, GSM, GPS, DCS, PCS, and W-CDMA, WiBro and S-DMB.

  • This paper proposes new configuration for the dual power amplifier that operates at 5.8 GHz for the wireless LAN and 1.8 GHz for the PCS. It dose not select the input signal but amplify the dual band signals simultaneously. Broadband diplexer is used at the input to separate the dual band signals. Output power of each amplifier is 1 W. The PBG is employed to improve the performance of power amplifier. Generally, the PBG is employed at the end of output matching network. But in this paper, the PBG is employed in the load pull output matching circuit of amplifer to maximize the output power.

  • Silicene is a two-dimensional (2D) derivative of silicon (Si) arranged in honeycomb lattice. It is predicted to be compatible with the present fabrication technology. However, its gapless properties (neglecting the spin-orbiting effect) hinders its application as digital switching devices. Thus, a suitable band gap engineering technique is required. In the present work, the band structure and density of states of uniformly doped silicene are obtained using the nearest neighbour tight-binding (NNTB) model. The results show that uniform substitutional doping using aluminium (Al) has successfully induced band gap in silicene. The band structures of the presented model are in good agreement with published results in terms of the valence band and conduction band. The band gap values extracted from the presented models are 0.39 eV and 0.78 eV for uniformly doped silicene with Al at the doping concentration of 12.5% and 25% respectively. The results show that the engineered band gap values are within the range for electronic switching applications. The conclusions of this study envisage that the uniformly doped silicene with Al can be further explored and applied in the future nanoelectronic devices.
